I have this exact same vehicle in black (had it for almost 2 years now) and I LOVE IT!!!!! I will never drive anything but an Explorer from now on! I feel so safe in it and EVERYBODY who has ridden in it has said how insanely comfortable it is and what a smooth ride it is! In fact, my boyfriend's best friend went right out and bought one for himself last summer after riding in mine and instantly falling in love with it! Mine just hit 70k miles last week and I've never had a single problem with it. The only things I've needed to do are the oil changes very few months and I put new tires on it last year, but that's it!
I bought mine in October 2016 brand new. XLT with almost all the upgrades. 150,000 miles and still going strong. I had the water pump replaced at 60,000 miles which lead to an engine replacement 2 weeks later. Loooong story short the new engine has 90,000 miles on it and I still love this truck. Take care of it and it will take care of you.
@SeanP973 make sure the transmission shifts smooth. Take it on a longer test drive if you can. For me we haven’t had any major issues yet but every once and a while the trans will shift hard at low speeds from 2nd to 3rd
Be careful ever one if you got the 3.4 i think I'm saying it right but the motor that has the water pump inside of the motor goes bad around 100,000 miles we paid 3200.00 to get it fixed dealer wanted more we had our from brand new
I recently Sold my 2016 Explorer, Limited. While I love the suv, but the previous owner sisnt take care of it as it was a Fleet car. (The car was with me from 2018-11/2023) truthfully it was a great family car. I just would prefer to buy brand new and NOT a Fleet car (rental or company) It was a 4WD (technically it's an Awd) so, it has served me well. I would love to keep it, but don't need two cars yet.
We bought this exact car yesterday except mine doesn't have leather seats. I'm so glad I came accross this and you told that the key fob has to be in your pocket for the back lift sensor to work because I was thinking it didn't have one but I also didn't have the keys. I'm also glad to see that it has the blind spot sensors because I haven't driven it much yet and no one has been in my blind spot yet and I was hoping it would.
Very informative, buying this vehicle through carvana however they don’t have a detailed video or any video actually on any of the features. Your video was very helpful. Thank you!
Pete, I might have some good news for you. You stated you didn't have the tow package but your window sticker plainly states the Class III trailer tow package is installed and cost $570. The package does NOT come with a Ball assembly and is hidden behind a removable access cover panel. Your video also shows the access cover on the rear bumper cover under the rear hatch door. Simply place your hand under the rear access panel and pull up and out. The panel will swing up and then pull it away from the bumper cover. You will find the hitch receiver and the electrical connections. I have a 2019 model with the same "hidden" tow package. Your Class III package is rated at 5,000 lbs with a tongue limit of 500 lbs. Great tour of the vehicle and I'm sure you will enjoy.
Great review, for a person who is going to buy one, hope this Monday and with all the features you showed, gets me more excited to purchase the one I saw 😍 thank you
We still have our. Been very reliable, but the two things I have seen myself and one that I’ve heard is the alternator going, which can be a struggle to change and very expensive expensive I’ve done at the shop. And then the water pump I have not experienced but hear from many people they can fail both of these before 100,000 miles.
I own a 2013 Ford Edge with the 3.5 non-turbo. Mine has 140k miles on it with very few problems, same drivetrain as your Explorer. The one thing to watch for is the water pump. If it goes you can count on a $2000 repair bill if you are lucky enough to catch it before you trash your engine. A friend of ours had an Explorer like yours but her water pump failed and trashed the engine, new engine required.
Just got mine two weeks ago a red one already have over 1200 miles on it just driving around the area where I live really starting to love this vehicle I do have the tow package in the traction control on mine with the sky roof inn electric sunroof got to love that and the nine speakers stereo doesn't hurt either
Bought one 2 years ago here in Switzerland, even they are not selled here officially. It is a US Import. 2018 Explorer Sport. Very nice car and you see them very very rarely here, between all these bmw, audi, mercedes, VW and Scoda cars 😂👍
Hey do you mind updating us, how do you like it? Do you think is it worth changing from a toyota? I myself am thinking to buy one but am stuck with the reliability of toyota.
@turyalaykhan3794 we got rid of ours because it was starting to have major transmission issues. I would never buy another one but we went with a bmw and I know we will have issues. I got a full warranty though with the bmw. I suggest a warranty if you get an explorer
Nice!! Didn’t know they came in 6cyl. versions. I’d definitely lay the black wrap up top. They look so much like the Range Rover. Really sleek. Good choice! ✊🏽
The 3.5 v6 is a SOLID engine, my dad has one that’s running like a top at 250k. Also, not to be that guy in the comments but…my mom is the service manager at a ford dealership and she swears by the v6 3.5 in these things. They VERY rarely are in the shop. The worst thing about them is the water pump is internal, so you have to take the front end of the engine apart to change that.
I’m considering this vehicle but the platinum version at 15k. Battery has been replaced and AC repaired. Fully serviced before sale. 75k miles. Is that a good/fair price? And have you ran into any issues?
That sounds like an incredible deal. We paid $28k when market was insane but we also got crazy money for our trade in so it worked out for us. I would say it’s worth about $20k or more with those miles. Only issue we have had so far outside of maintenance was the alternator going and I changed it myself. We have noticed the transmission with slam sometimes in low gears when going slow. I have also heard the water pump will give issues around this mileage. I would plan for $5k in fixes over next 50k miles if you get it.
Well so far Ford $0 cost outside regular maintenance. Bmw was about $4k first year and more the next few. But the bmw was a superior vehicle. If they could just put a Honda motor in a bmw we could all love them

My 2013 Explorer makes lot of wind noise at high speed. Do you have similar observation? What is the solution?

I just bought a 2017 with 98k mikes on it. Looks and runs great. Thanks for the review.
Same. Same mileage lol. Well, actually my dad gave me his old car haha
Going to look at a 17 with 92k tomorrow. How many miles do u have on yours now and have u had any problems with it?

Got a 2017 Ford Explorer xlt and love it ! Got it back in January 2022
Same! I got mine in November of 2022!

If you put in sand mode then it’s an actual 4 wheel drive

Nice car, I personally like the newer gen a little better but this gen is very nice also. Congrats

Wow thank you so much for the info. I will definitely look right away
I just checked and you are right. Thank you for the heads up. Now we can get the bike rack we were planning on getting

Good to know to keep a eye on that, the one im about to purchase its milage is around the 60k
Only problem is the engine water pump. $1800 to $2400 to replace. Good luck.

Just bought a 2018 explorer 🎉🎉🎉 full insurance policy
Bought one 2 years ago here in Switzerland, even they are not selled here officially. It is a US Import.
2018 Explorer Sport.
Very nice car and you see them very very rarely here, between all these bmw, audi, mercedes, VW and Scoda cars 😂👍
Very nice review 👍🏽
Love how he put the dogs before mentioning the kids lol

Do you still have the vehicle? Did you have to replace water pump?
We traded it in just recently. Had about 90k miles on it. Replaced the alternator but not the water pump at that time.
2017 Ford Explorer XLT, 49,625 miles
Nice , god speed with the water pump
Nice!! Didn’t know they came in 6cyl. versions. I’d definitely lay the black wrap up top. They look so much like the Range Rover. Really sleek. Good choice! ✊🏽
Yea they come in 4cylinder turbo 6 cylinder non turbo and 6 cylinder twin turbo.
Great review, will you recommend a used with over 100k miles?

Am thinking about getting one...
Would you mind going over what you paid for the car, and compared that to your other options that you were considering?
Nice... I want one, but they are rare here in Europe. And.... i don't want to sell my W140 S420L
Mine 2017 with not even 90k . Water pump failed …cost $3000+
Great review! Where would you get the black wrap for the top?
I had it done at a shop
Did this Ford come with a top rack for additional storage? I wasn’t able to tell based on your video. Thx
Yes it came with it
There is a recall on the rack. Might want to check that out
It looks like a Range Rover❤🎉
I have this car (it’s a 2017 FPIU)
How do you guys like it? Looking at a 2017 & a 2019 today.
So far absolutely love it

That’s a good tip about the additional maintenance. I really like the limited 4Runner, but this deal may be hard to pass up. Thanks for the insight.
I have 17 Platinum. 0 problems it drives beautifully
that is my dads car
Between bmw and a Ford, I would let the devil 👿 to pick. I don’t know which one is a bigger lemon 🍋

Stick with Toyota's.
Great review, will you recommend a used with over 100k miles?
i want one too but it has 104k miles
Don’t do it.
Great review, will you recommend a used with over 100k miles?
