Yeah this storyline was when I was over L&L. I understood soaps for what they were and that everyone does everyone dirty but the date rape was a distasteful start and then Luke was just awful in this story.
Steffun reminds me of Luke ( Disco days/ sail boat) in the way he is trying to convince Laura that she has feelings for him.Laura just fights it all the way, because she lost that lovin feeling along time ago.

Laura has always been strongly denial towards honest truth of her own feelings of love for two men along with devastating impact denial from her raped by Luke who she had loved this whole time. She had refused to face and deal with her mixed feelings towards Luke and Stefan mentally and emotionally. That is one of reasons that Lucky had been unable to understand and accept her rape by his own Dad because of her denial of being raped and refusing to face what Luke had done to herself. It was most definitely not normal emotional nor mentally reactions towards one's rapist in life. I had always hated how her raped by Luke was romanticized afterwards. It had most definitely tainted their lovestory from very beginning for myself. Don't get me started on Katherine who had hugely only gotten involved with Nicholas as sole revenge against Stefan and Laura.

Lucky already found out that Laura will twist every word and emotion to suit her agenda. It's more complicated than all that. Scotty and Laura would have eventually divorced if not for Luke, they weren't suitably paired. Luke WAS her soulmate but shortly after they married Laura was stolen, dragged to a remote island, raped repeatedly by a deranged drunken madman, verbally abused and emotionally tortured for years. Stefan's obsessive love was due to circumstance. As prisoners of a crazy family Laura&Stefan bonded as little kids whispering in corners. Then a child bonded them further. Stefan never forgets which explains his total devotion. No, Laura wasn't breathtaking but she brought out the emotions of others.
Short answer = because they are written that way. Longer answer = The Laura character was introduced as a manipulative, lying teenager who if I remember, was having an affair with a much older, married man. Which back in the 70s was no big deal. These days we call it pedophilia. She falls for obsessive, emotionally abusive, manipulative men because she's ultimately a victim and her psyche developed around that kind of "love." Laura needs a shrink to help her deal with her past and the way she thinks romantic love should be, not another lover/boyfriend/husband.
Like I just said no Laura tried to protect Luke and Lucky and Stefan who wants another family war. It's not like everyone was telling the truth here. They all lied even Laura. Laura did not want her two some and then baby girl to get hurt or killed. So shut up honey u don't know anything unless u walked in her shoes. Right around 5/5:30 she sabotaged the ability to get back together. Had she just let the whole mask thing ride, they would have been back together. He had found her reality about the island, and was able to deal with it, and she blew it! Damn.

How can you blame him after all Helena/Stefan had done to his family? Helena ordering the murder of Laura's Mother. Stefan drugging her and hiding her. Stefan taking Laura personally to the house (which means Laura and Luke colluded on setting Stefan up as though they agreed he was too dangerous anyway). How about Helena and her influence on kidnapping Laura, which changed Luke's life, as well as Helena's curse on the haunted star, and god knows whatever else. He did feel bad about Katherine and went to her service. He really only cared about family. His aunt, sister and immediate family.
Tramp? That's a stretch. While Laura was being held prisoner, Steffan was kind to her and they fell in love. She's been married to Luke for many years, the marriage is ending, and she gets back together with Steffan for awhile. Nowhere near the definition of a tramp. I know she was still married to Scott when the rape happened and she fell for Luke but it's a soap...few people get married once and live happily ever after. That would make almost every character on a soap a tramp...women AND men alike.

After that so-called rape, we witnessed years of a romantic love affair between Luke and Laura, then their reunion in 1984. Luke and Laura put that rape thing to rest during their time running from Smith in the summer of 1980, but to bring it back as though it was unaddressed is poor writing.
@@gerardfonz - Trying to explain away the rape scene as a "seduction" was poor writing. Luke and Laura were never supposed to happen. Anthony Geary was supposed to be killed off. That's why the rape happened. But he proved to be popular so the writers had to scramble and come up with an explanation as to why the show's new hero wasn't just a piece of scum.
