Thank you so much for posting this! I was a childhood fan of "Star Blazers" back in the 1970s. Still love the original series and theme music today! I even purchased the impressive live-action movie. Yes, it compressed the original series down severely, but understandably so. Watched this video last night and was not disappointed, especially when they used scenes from the original series! Wow! Gave me some goosebumps! My only critique was the music during the second half of the movie, specifically the space battles. I respect classical music, but those tunes just don't fit in with what was being viewed. Regardless, I've saved this and will assuredly watch it again. And again. And again ...
I stumbled across this randomly after leaving my UA-cam on all night as it played through the auto-recommendations. This was AMAZING and such a surprise, thanks for posting this
This is an OUTSTANDING fair sci fi Space Opera. It respects the fantasies that we have about space. It deploys our certain knowledge about the unknown with the classical Kabuki approach of such Japanese culture. Yamato or Star Blazers deserves a remake. I know it is an ode to one of the Japanese Warships that never saw death. The real Yamato is a work of art, one of the finest ships ever constructed in our history of naval engineering. Star Blazers will always be a cult classic and a good reference point for sci fi design of further franchises. Takara Tomi and the Diaclone comes to mind too. A contemporary approach to Yamato would be amazing on the right hands. Thank you so much for this love letter and upload.
Hey, great to see another Yamato fan. thought i'd let you know that there is a remake that has been very fateful to the original work called Space Battleship Yamato 2199, and another season SBY 2202. and currently ongoing is SBY 2205 The Journey.

Thanks for posting this! I love all things Space Battleship Yamato aka Star Blazers. I really wish more Sci-Fi would take influence from this. Most people don't realize that it actually predates the Star Wars franchise, at least in it's Japanese form.

Nice! Great two hours spent. :) It was so over the top in space-opera goodness. Was it formulaic? yes most surely, HOWEVER it is THEIR formula. Many of the troupes used in the movie came from Yamoto series(s) from their past. It is a testament to them that we call what they created 'troupes'. May the F-U! cannon be eternal... So I salute this movie, as it was a fun troupe filled ride!
Actually if you watch most of the Spaceship Battleship Yamato, you really learn not get attached to the characters, because they take the business of war very seriously and the main characters dies, some more than ones, so I wouldn't call it formulaic, Yamato is not afraid to show the brutality of war.

This movie got me realy into it. 2 years prior to this movie appearing and ressurecting the entire franchise (The plan for 2199 came soon after this movie hit theater's in japan btw.) i watched the 3 og series and the movies assosiated with them. Its still good that 2199 changed so much... Okita never was bloodthirsty and NEVER would have ordered to lay waste to garmilas as he did in the OG, that was one error that was corrected the right way as well as "they shoot first". Nope, Gamilon didnt, we all knew that back then even. The only change that i needed time to adopt was Yamamoto. I did forgive them because its a frelling Godess voicing her(I will never forgive BSG thou, and dont the new remake DARE to not let Apollo and Starbuck be males!). Man I've watched so much anime in the last 30 years of my life. I started with what was current at the time. Lupin, dragon Ball, crayon shin chan... In the 90s. And watched everything i could find that was fan subbed. So much so that i caught up. Not every last anime obviously but to my taste. Then I started going backwards. Jumping back in time with anime from the 90s to the 70s was like falling into a very different layer of a parallel animated universe. This makes me feel a different sensation of anime nostalgia. I watched everything i could find that was interesting from the 70s through around 2000 and by then a few years had gone by and i had some current, at the time, anime, to catch up on. Then i was watching anime as it was released after airing. So many different series and movies😅. I'm such a freak! Omg. I stopped watching for a number of years but here i am again. I like how when the camera first zooms in on Earth, it shows Southeast Asia and the Pacific, since that's where it's main audience lives and would recognize the most. At first I didn't even think that was Earth, cause all the landmass was hidden by cloud cover and all I saw was just OCEAN.
This is based on the OG series, not the remake. I had no idea there was a continuation of the original so recently. I can really see what they brought over to 2199.

1,000 millones de me gustan no le harían justicia a tan gran película japonesa
I grew up on starblazers. It was out for four years when I watched it. I found my boxed die cast Yamato and was googling a price when I found this. I watched it twice now.
I like how when the camera first zooms in on Earth, it shows Southeast Asia and the Pacific, since that's where it's main audience lives and would recognize the most. At first I didn't even think that was Earth, cause all the landmass was hidden by cloud cover and all I saw was just OCEAN.
This is awesome man. Thank you very much.
I just love it brightens my day 😍😇🥰
This is based on the OG series, not the remake. I had no idea there was a continuation of the original so recently. I can really see what they brought over to 2199.
