If you don't like the game, that's perfectly ok. It's not a failure to not complete a game. Games are meant to be enjoyed, so if it's having the opposite effect then it's better to drop it
Hey Dee, man 2 things I want to say from my heart to you: 1. I know your work is to stream and to play videogames, its TOTALLY FINE IF YOU DONT ENJOY PLAYING CERTAIN GAMES, EVEN WHEN EVERYBODY LIKE THEM, your motivation should come from something you enjoy and makes you happy, dont torture yourself, we want to see you happy man. Please take care of yourself next time! 2. I know you may be EXAHUSTED / BURNT OUT from Sonic Adventure 2, but if you wanna see the story, just do a watch along party reacting to the story, I would gladly join, if you just want to leave the game behind it's totally fine, we will support your future content anyway!! I know my comment may not be important but if by chance you get to read this, we're here for ya, lad
"Skill issue" isn't the the right term. I think its a very specifically "acquired" thing to enjoy Adventure 2. I love the game, and by extension I love Sonic Heroes which came after it. They're far from perfect. No ifs, ands, or buts. If you didn't enjoy it, that's OKAY Deebee. Not everyone is gonna like the same things and there's nothing wrong with that. That being said, you made an effort and that's all that matters in the end. I'm sorry it wasn't a positive experience for you, and I'm sorry there's a bunch of pretenders in our community resorting to the "skill issue" garbage, obviously just ignore them. They're not part of us, they like to act as if they are though. I don't come to you to watch you suffer DeeBee, I come to you to watch you experience journeys. If you're not having fun, then drop it. Do not force yourself to suffer. If i wanna watch anyone suffer, I'll go watch anyone playing a horror game lol. When I come to you it's because I wanna watch you have fun and join in on that fun. To me, you're still "the Zelda guy" and that energy you had for Breath of the Wild is the kind of energy for why I follow you. Much love, DeeBee 💙
Yeah coming back after a long wait to a hard part is usually a bad idea, I normally start over myself and relearn the basics. It’s like if you was to go into xenoblade after leaving for year near the end of it you will forget the battle systems and combos most likely.
And don’t go dissing your own Sonic gaming skills either. You DESTROYED Shadow Generation. DESTROYED IT! You knocked that out in under 7 hours! First tried the final boss! That was stuff out of legends. Whether you believe it or not you ARE a Sonic player
True this there are so many sonic games and so many flavours, from the classic 2d styled games, to the adventure formula and the boost formula games and even the racing/riders games, not completing and enjoying one of the games doesn’t dent the fact you are a sonic player
The problem this time around. Instead of trying to have fun, you made yourself 100% focus. Like the other vod, how you were completely focused on entertainment. This time you were to focus instead of trying to have fun. It's like you forgot how to put on a game, chill and enjoy yourself.
fr, most people that watch streamers want to see their reactions to the game. (i dont watch streams, but that is basically what it is right?) because they are watching for another persons reaction? So most of all, I think a streamer should enjoy the game they play.
Yeah I was watching the stream live and that was just insane. That goddamn level took me forever when I first played the game and he just beat it on his first try lol. Honestly, aside from him messing up a couple times on White Jungle, his Dark Story playthrough seemed to be going well. Shame Mad Space had to Mad Space.
SA2 is one of my favorite games. But it only really fun when you basically mastered the controls after playing it for a while. As a beginner this game is super rough. Clunky controls, bad camera. Mech controls, treasure hunt maps expecting you to know the map, game randomly deciding to not work (Ive seen speedrunners fall victim to that).
It’s totally okay if ya didn’t enjoy playing the game I just think that many people including myself are confused and feeling really polarized that you really liked SA1 and yet hated playing SA2. I have the complete opposite feelings on the game cause I feel like the older I’ve gotten the more I’ve loved and been able to appreciate everything the game is trying to do whereas when I was younger I only liked the speed stages and Chao garden and hated the mech and treasure stages. But sometimes I guess that’s just how it is. We all interpret and view the same things differently and that’s okay. SA2 may be the peak of the franchise in my opinion but that doesn’t mean it has to be for everyone else.
I think all these years later I can admit that Sonic Adventure 2 is not the peak that I thought it was. It will always hold a special meaning for me, but it is a game made for a very particular kind of gamer, and the rough edges become only more apparent with time. Whereas a game like Sonic Generations (and now Shadow Generations) ages very gracefully and still blows me away with the amount of detail and cate put into every section of the level design. On top of that, Shadow Generations actually has a great, heartfelt story, with decent writing and wonderful characterization.
I wonder if one reason for the difficulty is also how different this game can feel to other 3D sonic games - SA2 actively encourages exploration of the worlds of each level (to find power-ups, alternative pathways to get around a seeming dead end, etc.). It feels fairly different to the “gotta go fast” / keep pushing forward mentality of most other sonic games. In many sonic games, the hints aren’t that useful in my experience and can mostly be skipped or skimmed, but in this game they’re much more essential. And there’s a lot of signposting and visual cues throughout levels that are only mentioned in hints or must be interacted with to figure out what they do. Compared to SA1 which can be brute forced or cheesed in many places (spin boost skips, just flying in tails levels, etc), the same is not true here. I actually prefer the world building / adventuring vibe in SA2, which is why this is one of my favorite sonic games. But I get why those who are approaching this from a usual sonic mindset might not. Especially given how much camera taming is required to enjoy this… which was required to enjoy many platfomers from this game’s era even though it’s now very dated. Especially in some of those late game space levels….ugh. Even I still struggle with those.
Honestly I think at this point its better for him to do just that, it's the story for Adventure 2 that people think is peak most will say the gameplay didn't age well.
I have several things to say. First, I'm glad that my comment on the other video helped you. Second, everyone else in the comments getting upset or saying you "just don't know how to play the game" or "clearly ignored things" can kindly go away. Especially the ones like "Oh youtubers do this stuff all the time". What part of playing the game for the first time, ever, is not being comprehended. Dee is not a pro Sonic player. He hasn't played this game before. And he sure as hell won't enjoy it if, not only is he struggling with quite honestly outdated and jank controls and mechanics that don't even work half of the time correctly ANYWAY, but also has to sit here and see people throw a fit because the guy who hasn't played SA2 before, is doing bad at SA2. If you want good gameplay of SA2, go watch people that regularly play it, like speedrunners. Dee is here to provide his genuine first impressions of this game, and if he doesn't like it, then he doesn't like it. Simple. I mean no offense to Dee, but if you are watching his content, you are not watching him for skill. You are watching him for a genuine person, with genuine reactions, and a (usually) really chill and understanding community. In the nicest way possible to everybody being toxic, you DO NOT have to watch someone or something, if you don't want to. As for Dee, keep rocking your shit. I and many others here will always love your content, keep being you. That's all we could ask for. I'd kill to have a genuine person like you for a friend, the world needs more people like you
I'm actually going to go out of my way to say: YES! The game is VERY jank! However a lot of the issues you had didn't have anything to do with that. Most memorable for me was at the boss battle after your unfortunate journey through Death Chamber. Apparently you had 100% forgotten that Knuckles could even punch and kept trying to attack with your glide or dive. Then, when you were trying to get to the small ghost, it somehow never occurred to you that speeding straight to it was what caused the big one to turn around leading to lap after lap after lap of back and forths. There were plenty of moments like this where either you forgot the controls or had a lapse of intuition/reasoning. But again, there ABSOLUTELY were plenty of jank moments in your playthrough, but few of those played a part in your frustration
Ps: Another thing while watching this VOD (but not something i can even blame you for as a modern player) Although the Devs had the genius idea of letting you move the camera with the right stick, they also constantly force certain perspectives to help you through stages which leads to a power struggle with player control. You sometimes wanted to look to the side, but the game was outright telling you to just go forward (or down) and trust them. (Pss: You forgot you had the missle upgrade)
This is also true. It's why I don't think SA2 is a good game to stream, the game is like an old car, if you know how it runs and what makes it tick you will have a pleasant experience, but if you don't pay close attention to all the little ins and outs then you will have a terrible experience with the car because it is old and requires patience. All of SA2’s context sensitive actions are slightly delayed, meaning that they require coming to an almost complete stop. Being a first time player and also having not played in like two years, he was honestly doomed before he started.
I was a kid the first time I played SA2 and it was the first video game I owned. I admit, it was frustrating at times and how I got stuck on a lot of parts. Once I figured them out they became tons of fun. I hope you are okay.
the game was fun back then. I played it last time on PS3 with a "backwards compatability" setting or something. I remember the Knuckles/rouge and eggman/tails missions were really annoying. Playing as Sonic was fun, and the Chao garden was the best part of the entire game. Don't let people tell you what's fun and not, it's all about personal preferences. Move on to the next one on your list, we will support you all the way.
Dont worry about it. Appreciate you trying. Thats more than we can say with most streamers. You try for your community and we love that you do that so you dont need to stress yourself out. We love ya Dee. Looking forward to your stream tomorrow. Wife finally has off of work on a day your streaming so the both of us will be there for your stream.

This is why you do tutorials first when they are available
Maybe you should start Sonic Unleashed or go back to Frontiers. I don't know if you'll like Sonic Heroes or Shadow the Hedgehog if you didn't like Adventure 2.
@@Heathenshalt what are you on mate? he already likes the Boost Formula from playing Shadow Generations, and the Werehog is pretty straight forward. (no jank in the controls, and now treasure hunting)
@@ArynBacklogDragon in terms of boost gameplay unleashed is pretty easily the most difficult one, i think he'd likely struggle with that game if he did with sa2
I respect that you gave the game another try. You did your best, and even if you didn’t achieve your goal, that effort matters. You should be proud for giving it your all.
Don’t torture yourself man. It’s totally okay to not enjoy a game others do and it doesn’t always come down to just ‘skill issue.’ Maybe it is a skill issue sure. But like I can’t go out and skateboard at a skate park safely. I’d be miserable and injure myself really quickly. It’s a skill issue by definition but if I’m miserable that’s perfectly valid and it’s only making things worse to force oneself to continue. Consider watching the remaining cutscenes and whether or not you do that move on to stuff you enjoy but I don’t think anyone finds it entertaining to watch you destroy your enjoyment by forcing yourself to beat this. Sonic can be hit or miss. I’m a Sonic fan for sure but there’s games that I picked up tried and just at a certain point realized I wasn’t enjoying even if I probably should’ve been. Sure SA2 is beloved but sometimes it’s just that games won’t click with everyone the same way. It’s all good.
You not liking the game is completely valid, and anyone that has a problem with that can go cry about it. This was YOUR experience, and no one can tell you how you're supposed to feel. Sa2 has plenty jank and much more that will throw off newcomers and people that grew up with it has played long enough to know how to avoid the bs.
Sega doesn’t remake games nearly enough. A remake of sonic adventure 2 at this point with Sonic have THE MOST good will it’s had in decades would do very well.
Deebeegeek. You are a human being. You gave it your best shot twice and we applaud you for that. It’s also in your right to not like a game, can’t expect someone to play 50 games or so and not like a couple. I can understand small games to be played within a day but not big ones. No one plays Zelda or super Mario bros in a day.
If you're not enjoying the game, it is okay to quit. If you aren't enjoying playing it, people aren't going to enjoy watching you play. It's okay to quit games that aren't vibing with you.
I'm way ahead of you of replaying this game. Last I played it was 2011 (according to my old Chao garden memory data). 13 years since I last played it! I do admit muscle memory is still there BUT I had to relearn the physics since I got used to the modern games, especially lock-on rail grinding. I disagree with people saying its skill issue, because it's your first time playing this. It requires the player to replay the stages to get better, kinda like Bayonetta. Plus, those that said skill issue and they beat this easily when they were young, did they beat these levels and A rank em on their first try? Or, retried them multiple times until they got good at them?
Hey Dee, dont worry about not passing through this game. It does have its flaws. Ignore the negative comments, you listen what you feel its not good for you. I hope you're doing well and just to remind you. You are indeed a Sonic fan just like us. Remember everyone has their own opinions. Love ya pal still positive💯👍
I watched this stream last night. I'm in Perth Western Australia so it was midnight. You are a big bag of legend man! When you kept on keeping on you finished the the hero mode. It was killer!
1. You weren't reading your B button options during the sonic level where you had to use the ring dash (that got you frustrated) it says it on screen 2. You fall off the stage and/or repeat the same exact situation the same approach for atleast 10 deaths then get frustrated it doesn't go your way. Why stick to the same game plan when it isn't working out? 3. The collecting emerald stages you constantly went back to check places you already checked multiple times. Im sorry, but the reasons for your frustrations are just your lack of drive to learn the mechanics and knowledge of the game. Don't play a game you're forcing yourself to play man. Rough stream.
Honestly I'm kinda just glad I'm not alone in not really liking Sonic Adventure 2. I've been really into Sonic lately with Frontiers and Sonic X Shadow Generations (which I 100% on steamed) but I just couldn't really get into this one even though I really wanted to. I did beat it but it just wasn't all that enjoyable to me. I appreciate it from a storytelling perspective with Shadow and all that but game play wise I ended up enjoying Sonic Adventure 1 way more because this one just made me frustrated. I definitely think it's a very overrated game in general and most of it has to do with unnecessary jank and unwindy controls that aren't explained well over just being a "skill issue" especially when I've played and beat many other difficult games and platformers.
Same, Sonic fan since 1991. SA1 was (and still kinda is) the perfect sonic 3D formula and I loved that with all my heart and still do. However SA2 was the moment I felt Sonic turned shitty on me. Yes, great story, amazing music (to be fair I didnt appreciate the music back when the game came out initial because it was too much of a change from my ideal sonic style) but having such bare sonic content with the rest being made up of Treasure hunting and mechs destroyed my experience. I didn't fully enjoy a 3D sonic game until Sonic frontiers came out and right now I am ending the year on a high with shadow gens.
imo you only fail if you give up. When you are a kid, you don't try to rush to a game to beat it while people are watching you. You take your time to explore and look around in no rush to just ''finish the game''. We are amazed, in wonder and had a lot of time on our hands. We didn't have that many game lineup waiting to be completed so we'd easily sink many hours into a game. But if you can't enjoy it, there is nothing to do about it. It's a shame you seemed to be doing great and be really far in the game.
Believe me as kids we had the same reaction this game gave us headaches for months, the amount of times i let go of the controller and layed in bed face down out of frustration and sadness was probably in the triple digits. Some times all you can do is play a level and leave it for a couple of days. You did well playing blind and with no help. Alot of people forget that we didnt get S ranks on our first play through heck even C was/is a struggle. We have fond memories of this game because we struggled to get to the next cut scene and can proudly tell our friends at school what happened when we do, swap tips on levels, hidden upgrade. Alot of this game requires great memory, looking at everything around you, patience, and blind leaps of faith when the camera and controls are this jank. You beat hero mode so as far as we are concerned you beat the game. Rest can be cutscene reactions.
The thing with Sonic Adventure 2 is that it's like the golden childhood game for a lot of Sonic fans that missed the 90s and hit the series in the 2000s instead, so there are a lot of people with VERY biased opinions about the game in the sort of way where they get upset if you have any negative views on it. It's not a perfect game by any means, but the nostalgia glasses are so thick that, to a lot of people, it BECOMES perfect in their eyes, despite evidence to say otherwise.
There was a lot more to my reply before I was cut off btw. but the hints are your main issue your focused to much on them, instead of exploring and waiting on pings to narrow your search’s . The devs actually intended you do these levels with zero hints as they decrease your score using them. Gliding around till your radar pings is much easier (imo) than trying to figure out the very cryptic clues that are more a hindrance on your 1st play through, (sorry if it came across wrong but this is what I was meaning and I type slow.) knuckles/rouge glide around ping search (acquire upgrades if needed) sonic/shadow your doing fine. tails/eggman you beat harder version in adventure 1 with gamma and his levels being timed already (just try to lock on to multiple mobs vs 1) (My sister only played to raise chao at 1st she only played city escape over and over, till she realised other levels had other animals in them. she took hours exploring the space levels but she was still having fun why doing so.)
Man sonic adventure 2 was good for the time. Lol I’m good at it because I’m use to it. It didn’t age well and that’s okay. It’s the second game for 3D gameplay. You have a right to your opinion
P.s. I suck at metal gear solid 2 and didn’t have fun. But I love the new ones. I still appreciate it for what it was, but I’m trash at it so I didn’t have fun. It’s whatever man. Don’t apologize for your truth.
I first tried SA2 abt 3/4 years ago no nostalgia nor did i watch any gameplay. I havent even started SA1 yet the thought of needing to do all the campaigns is stopping me. But man watching this was tough, i was also really annoyed by some knuckles and rouge stages. But beside that i was able to intuitively understand the game, so when i watch this it really is strange to see so much struggle from what i thought was really intuitive. The best analogy i can come up with is the Sonic 3 barrel, to me i understood immediately and was surprised people could get stuck there. Feels like this whole game was a Sonic 3 barrel to you. Watching the gameplay it felt equivalent to playing a long jrpg, taking an extended break and forgetting how to play when returning.
Back when the PS3 came out one of the reasons I got it was to play Heavenly Sword. Ended up absolutely hating it but forced myself to finish it. Felt just about how it looks you did at the end there. Oddly I'm tempted to boot SA2 back up just to see if I can blitz it without losing my own mind. The one I played last month was the version I rebought on the 360 before they shut down the shop but I've also got my old GameCube save still and my Wii is hooked up because I was playing PSO for the last few weeks so I could revisit it that way if only to see my old chao gardens.
Didn't watch the whole thing but don't force yourself to play something if you don't like it. I did notice on Final Rush, you often kept tapping B to crouch, but you need to hold it down. 2:20:04 That's why it felt like it wasn't doing anything. Also, there is usually an extra life nearby checkpoints to prevent a game over. Restarting a level costs a life too. Mad Space is probably my least favorite level but you kept passing by iron crates that you could destroy. You're super close to the end of the game, but don't push yourself too much. There are some things you're missing that makes the game easier though.
I really have absolutely no idea what to say. The games made sense to us back in the day, and they felt new back then... Maybe it really is just a culture shock thing. I will say that Sonic adventure 1 was a very easy game while this one could get very hard, even if you did know what to do. Some of the glitches youre encountering, to be fair, i think are because of the emulator, because they never happened to me in the console gamecube version
Dude, Sonic fans are some of the most aggressive out there, play what u want and if u don’t enjoy it drop it. Watch a vid on it or something to appease some of the fans it’s all good. Ur entitled to ur sanity as well. Graphics hasnt hold up well, and in my opinion, the scavenger hunts and side character missions are pretty boring. I personally grew up with Sonic heroes (Game after this one) and Sonic A. 1 and 2 fans will swear up and down it’s a horrible game where as I feel those games are just downright boring. They also tend to be maxed out in pride with stating that S.A 2 is the peak of all Sonic games as if it were a law written in holy scripture. Regardless point is that it’s largely due to nostalgia, but S.A 2 does have one of the best Sonic stories out there and the inclusion of shadow is peak. I however can’t get behind the level designs, gameplay pace, and overall art style so 🤷♂️ Anyways, if u get around to playing heroes the same goes, do ur best, If u enjoy it, then great if u don’t then w.e, watch a few clips and move on to the next. Sonic games are hit or miss with people.
Dee, it's okay. Like I said in the Skill Issue video: Sonic Adventure is my favorite game, but I just don't like Sonic Adventure 2. In fact, I actually just set up mods for Adventure 2 in order to make it a better gameplay experience for me. Once again, I absolutely love the story of Adventure 2, but the gameplay is just actively worse than SA1 for me. I'm actually hoping that the mods I set up for it help me to actually beat the game for the first time myself (No cheats or anything, just some gameplay and graphics tweaks).
There's nothing wrong with not liking SA2. There's a sonic game for everyone. I would recommend playing Some more games from the boost formula and to stick to what you are used to
The only actual levels I enjoyed were the Sonic and Shadow levels, and some of the bosses. The main reason I love SA2 is the Chao Garden, and I think that’s the same as a lot of people. The Chao Garden and raising them with different skills and animals is the one reason I still play it to this day. Not the story or other game mechanics.
Dee it's okay you don't have to prove the games good, there are people who don't like Mario 64, there are people who don't like Oot or BOTW, there are people who don't like Halo 3, Dmc2, hell most people cringe at xenoblade outside the fan base, it seriously doesn't matter you don't have to finish a game you don't enjoy playing! It does come across in streams when you're not enjoying it. It's not just a skill issue, it isn't easy when you haven't been playing the same game for 20 years. You don't need to prove it's a good game! Play what you love Dee, that's what drew us all to your zelda playthroughs, the fact it was something someone hadn't experienced throughout all the years of gaming and it was like seeing ourselves play it for the first time. It doesn't matter if you don't like Sonic your fans won't leave! Sonic is certainly an aqquired taste. In all honesty Sonic doesn't sell well, it barely sells more than a million per game these days, with Shadow Gens the exception. You're taking Sa2 far too seriously when there's way more games Sonic or otherwise, that you would have fun playing, good luck Dee!
I love this game a lot, but I do have to agree there are parts of this game that have aged a little poorly, and arent very good by today standards, so I can totally see why you had a bad experience with this game, and thats ok! Its a janky game 😂 and while I've learnt to work around it, a newcomer probably wouldn't of. So don't feel bad for struggling :) I hope you enjoy whatever other sonic games are next for this channel, its been super fun to see your journey with this series❗️❗️
I grew up loving SA2 and to be fair, I played Mad Space for the first time in about 10 years a few weeks ago, and had a horrible time finding the emeralds and deliberately died various times just to re-randomise the positions. The whole Knuckles/Rouge gameplay style is terrible - especially as the stages get larger. I would also go as far as to say that the only fun gameplay style in the game was Sonic/Shadow.
Don’t beat yourself up so much Dee! I think this game really just might not be for you, and I don’t mean that in the sense that it’s too hard, but just overall enjoyment of it. Just like you I didn’t grow up on SA2, I played it relatively recently, and I tried and failed just as much as you, but the game’s variety of level themes, amazing soundtrack and story (even if not presented in the best way) kept pulling me back in, and it’s COMPLETELY okay if you just didn’t feel the same way. Whether you stop here forever and never touch this game again, or decide to come back it to knock out these last few levels when you’re more calm, i genuinely thank you from the bottom of my heart for at least trying to feel the same way by playing through this game that’s so special to me, and so many other sonic fans 💜💜 your intentions are clear and they mean a lot to me as a viewer and fan of both you and this game. If you do decide to drop this game, I won’t lie it’ll be a bit unsatisfying since you’re closer than you think to finishing this game, and they squeeze in SO MUCH plot during the last section of the game, but ultimately your enjoyment is what matters the most, so I and many other will understand and respect your decision. I think something also needs to be said about the jank, which is VERY MUCH present. As someone who plays this game religiously and occasionally speedruns levels, I take the jank and make it my friend. But the fact remains that the camera is outdated and wonky many times, the controls can be awkward especially for mech stages, and the control prompts in the corner are easy to tune out since they pop up so much. These are definitely products of it time and will understandable turn some people off from the game. I think dying to this vs a soulslike feels completely different because at least you go into a soulslike knowing it’s designed to be stupid difficult and you’ll die a lot, but no one goes into SA2 with that mindset because it wasn’t designed to be this hard, there’s so much unintentional jank that just gets in the way of the player and THAT’S what makes it difficult, which is why it doesn’t feel good to die so much. Lastly regardless of your experience playing the game, i think it’d be really interesting to see you react to a pro speedrun of this game. I think it’s really entertaining to see someone use the game’s jank against itself to go fast and that combined with super tight execution on a lot of sections makes for a really impressive and entertaining watch. Much love Dee and thank you 💜💜💜💜
Ive not watched this vid yet but from the old VOD, what struck me as part of your struggles was the controls and the physics. Shadow Gens and a lot of other modern Sonic games are more on-rails and scripted than these older 3D games. SA2 in particular has some weird quirks with its controls that I forget about personally because it's so ingrained in my mind that I dont have to think about it. If you do continue with the game. Id recommend just aclimating yourself with the controls, getting used to how to consistently homing attack, how to maximise your jumps, etc. Dont get me wrong. The game is jank. Its a Dreamcast game from the late 90s but it's very playable and can be pretty smooth to get through the majority of the game... but it'll take some persistence, especially if 3D platformers are not the kind of game you frequent. Regardless of what you decide to do, just have fun with it. If I were in your position id replay older missions in mission mode off screen in your own time to try and get a feel for it. Maybe not necessarily trying to go fast, either. Either way. This game is begging for a remake or remaster. It could use a lot of QoL improvements and fixes
It’s fine if you don’t enjoy it, I really didn’t enjoy the gameplay at all in my first playthrough since it is really hard. The games are super janky, especially in the pc versions. It has a SERIOUSLY high difficulty spike in the later stages, and even after all this time I REALLY don’t like the Knuckles/Rouge stages due to how the radar works in this game, the memorisation you have to do for all the emerald spots in the stages (it’s randomised every time) and the hints not being translated properly. I still do struggle with playing the game from time to time, it takes me a lot of practice to get better at some stages. I do really enjoy playing as Sonic and Shadow though. Also I recommend getting the SA2 Input Controls mod (on Gamebanana) to fix the jank that the pc version made due to loads of bugs and porting issues, mainly the atrociously bugged rail grind switching and tilting mechanics that don't really work on pc. I’ll never be upset in the slightest with you being super honest about your thoughts on games, I appreciate it a lot. I recommend just watching the cutscenes. I mainly enjoy getting high scores and A ranks or speedrunning the game, but it’s tough even for me. But when you do something you’ve been practicing correctly, it feels really good.
damn bro, don't force yourself to beat the game in one sitting. I never really got into the adventure games because they looked too old for me, I kept refunding it because I was trying to force myself into playing. The best way to play these games is to play them at your own pace.
There’s a reason some people find Sonic fans are off their rocker. This game looks abysmal to play and yet some people enjoy it (aggressively, I might add). That’s fine that they like it, I don’t believe that they’re lying about having fun playing it. But it’s certainly not for everyone. I remember forcing myself to play through a game that I actively hated (Hyrule Warriors sequel) hoping it would get good but all that happened is it made me physically nauseous.
I completely understand the frustration and disappointment of not enjoying what other people are enjoying, but you don't need to beat yourself over it! You gave it an honest second shot. But if you didn't find much enjoyment out of the game at all then you honestly don't need to keep playing it, and that's fine. If you're still curious about the story, you could just watch the rest of the cutscenes or something, but yeah, there's no question that these games aged badly and why people have been clamoring for remakes of the Adventure games. Even though I love SA2 it is definitely clunkier to play than modern Sonic games. A context-sensitive action button that has like 5 or more different contexts is not good design, among other things like tedious treasure hunting which was legitimately made worse than SA1's. As an aside, it makes sense Mad Space would make you...well, mad. Even among the fans that level is pretty hated, lol.
so, I'm a massive fan of the sonic series, and your content too. And sometimes you have to admit, the problem is not the person who is playing, but the game itself. This game, while many people like to praise it, just never felt enjoyable for me either. Even compared to sonic adventure 1. Everything surrounding the actual gameplay is very whimsical and beautiful, but the fact that SA2 was made by one fifth of the devs that worked on the previous title should tell you a lot. It's okay that you didn't have fun, it's okay that you didn't like it, we're just happy you gave sonic a fair chance when many people laughed in our faces for quick views. You did more than we could've ever wanted, and that in and of itself is more than enough.
Deebeegeek! I really enjoy your videos but at 1:46 you finishing the level i have to say, yes the game can be a bit tedious at times but not in a way as it frustrates you. Its a problem i see in other playthroughs of yours as well and that is that from a certain point YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE GAME A BIT MORE SERIOUSLY and i see many games you play that you arent doing that. And than when the difficulty spikes up a bit you get overwhelmed and this shows highly in your SA2 playthrough. You have this in other games you play as well and though i do think its entertaining seeing you sweat here and there😂😂 sometimes its just a bit more annoying because its just your own skill as you arent 'paying attention'.
I don't understand why he gets so frustrated when he ignores the game telling him what to press. Press B in front of rings for a light dash. Press B to Crouch while on a rail. The action command pops up on the upper right.
Play what you want man! You gave it a shot and it wasn’t working out Gonna admit, I was not playing adventure 1 & 2 when I was young, grew up on the PS2 and Sonic Heroes was my Sonic game and still is Wasn’t until 2022-2023? I downloaded SA1 & SA2 on my PS3 and the controls felt off, which I get, at that time weren’t the greatest. I’m sure if I grew up with those games I would’ve liked them a lot more, still enjoyed them! But not as much as I hoped. But I understand for many, SA2 is peak Sonic
You didn't Live and Learn😟 Jokes aside, If you ever want to give it another shot, I recommend going to stage select an simply run around an familiarize yourself with character controls as well as the game's physics. SA2 Physics are way different from Modern Sonic, so that may be throwing you off at times. (EX, if you hold jump, you will go higher than if you pressed jump) Don't feel too bad and ignore the haters. The controls in SA2 are jank, it will take you a while to get used to them.
Please don't beat yourself up about not finishing the game! If it's not for you it's not for you and that is absolutely alright. Much Love, Dee❤ PS: if you still want to get the experience/hype you could consider watching a let's play/Cutscene compilation for the rest of the game since there are a few memorable and cool moments coming up. But please absolutely do not feel obligated to do so😊
Honestly, this game is tedious with the constant collecting of gems and the outdated janky gameplay. (even if it is beloved by many) but you were getting better. I think it's hard to go from newer games with better mechanics to playing the older games where they were still working out how to implement new mechanics and gameplay. Either way, if you don't enjoy it you don't enjoy it, simple as that. you can still love the story without loving the gameplay. Don't beat yourself up too hard about this one. Regardless it was fun watching you play.
I love SA2 and your reason for quitting is 100% understandable. The controls are janky at parts, Mad Space, the beeping noises in the mech stages and the bad audio in the cutscenes are what the game pretty annoying to me As for 5:07:41 it might be nostalgia, the fact that SA2 is one of the more better Sonic games plot wise (at least imo) and the Sonic and Shadow stages.
It’s okay, at least you played it and gave your opinion on the game while some people don’t play it and just gives their opinions for nothing. So I’m not mad at your opinion. But I hope you have better days ahead of you man! And keep being Raw!
Oh... Well. I guess the Sonic 3D journey ends again? Sigh, get rest, maybe sega will remake these games again and improve so they wouldn't be that frustrating to newcomers. Tbh, I also like Adventure 1 more.
I played and finished the game a couple weeks ago (mind you following a video that mods the game for the ideal experience, controls, better emerald radar, less jank, etc.) I would say I really enjoyed the sonic/shadow and boss portions of the game but I slogged through the tails/eggman portions and I utterly despised the knuckles/rouge portions even with the better emerald radar mod, I want to go fast, final rush while hard was very fun for me, though when you played the physics on the rails in that level didn’t look like they made sense to me so I couldn’t imagine how much harder it is on the original unmoded game. I can absolutely understand your distain for the treasure hunting, in a sonic game I want to go fast and run rather than play hide and seek with emeralds. The modded version of the games sonic shadow play style is the style I prefer for sonic games over the modern boost games but the knuckles tails levels big down the game so much for me.
Always said sonic adventure 1 is the best and most repayable of the 2. I can’t stand the rouge and knuckles missions. I had to go onto UA-cam for them to try and work out different paths. I reccomd just watching the final story on UA-cam though just so you see the ending. The last story is one of the hardest levels I’ve ever played to and used a lot of lives just to get through it
I would say I'm a casual Sonic fan. I got into the series a bit later than others. I haven't gotten every game out there, but the majority I have played I have enjoyed. I've had the Gamecube version of this game for years, and I really wanted to beat it in preparation for Sonic x Shadow Generations. Plus I kept hearing people sing the games praises. But I kept getting frustrated by the gameplay, and sometimes thought I was just bad at it, listening to those saying it was a "skill issue". I would end up shelving the game for years before taking it out to give another try. I finally beat Last Story earlier this year, but I can't really say it is one that I am eager to re-experience like others I own. The story is great, but the gameplay doesn't hold up. I think this really needs a remake/remaster to fix the controls. It's ok that you didn't enjoy this game. There's going to be another game out there that will appeal to you more.
I am haaaaaaardcore sonic fan from day one to this day. I don't really get why SA2 was the peak sonic. Like most of it is Treasure Hunting and Mech levels. I am convinced its more the story and shadow that people hype themselves up on. Shadow has about 4 levels and Sonics levels whilst amazing only half of them are fun. Its really odd. Sadly my favourite SA1 I think was peak 3D Sonic Platformer but its so old and clunky I dunno if I could recommend it. I always thought SA1 was peak because its a long chunky uninterrupted sonic portion (and tails who mimics the same gameplay) and the rest of the characters could be ignored if you aren't going after super sonic.
Well you tried it's ok if you not like the game man I understand everyone have different opinions when comes to this game to me it still great but yeah the game was old and it had some flaw but hey at least you tried your best right
Just take your time. It took A long time to actually defeat this game as well.sometimes we need. Mental breaks. This isn't really? I think a skill issue. I think it's more a mechanical issue with the game.the way the sometimes certain things happen like trying to adjust the camera or trying to find. All of the upgrades you need.
Honestly after seeing the first VOD i was afraid this might happen, no worries DeeBee sometimes the jank of old games is too much for the best of us to overcome. I have heard there are some mods that help alleviate most of the issues you seemed to have if you want to check that out on your own time. Honestly now that i think about it you might want to look into something like that for almost any 3D Sonic game you plan on playing as all of them have some level of jank to them.
The game has jank and it's kind of a reverse culture shock to come back to this one. But, to be fair, it wasn't just the jank that hindered your experience. Not paying attention to game mechanics, hints and prompts made it almost impossible for you. Modern games (and also Sonic games) are more forgiving in that regard but older games really want you to pay attention to and learn their mechanics. Which is something I actually miss in games today. SA2 was a big part of my childhood/youth but I am 100% aware that this game lacks polish, big time. Yet, much of your frustration seems to come down to the way you play and experience games. Which is fine. Not everything is for everyone.
I do feel somewhat that maybe platformers (or specifically 3D platformers) aren't really your thing, and I say this while knowing how much fun you had with Shadow Gens. And that's okay. There are a lot of platformers out there, including among Nintendo's own IPs, that are much harder than Mario (which you saw with DKC). Some indies out there like Shovel Knight or Celeste would definitely beat you down like SA2 did, I think. In any case, you definitely shouldn't push yourself if you aren't having a good time. Games like this will never be for everyone, and generally have a higher skill ceiling. I hope you can keep enjoying your journey with other games like Xenoblade 3 going into next year, and feel more positive with those experiences. Take care of yourself.
Honestly? Don't beat yourself up over not enjoying this SA2. There are plenty of games that are unanimously loved by others that no matter how much I try I just can't get into. (Chrono trigger, A link to the past, etc.) You have every right to your opinion
Nah, that's fine. SA2 is unrefined. SA1 was worse. I'm a little surprised you were okay with SA1 but not SA2, but it was created when devs were... unfamiliar with 3D. It's far from the worst Sonic game, and it's kinda weird to hear it taken so poorly, but there are a number of cheap deaths. And boy is the final Sonic vs Shadow fight pretty nasty. I'd expect people to have more of an issue with how poorly the dub is handled, but sure, it's nowhere near as smooth as some of the more recent stuff. A few mods might help, like the SA1 version of Knuckles radar in SA2, but it may not be worth bothering with.
Was the chat not allowed or completed discouraged to give you ANY tips at all? I'm at one hour and a half through this video and I see things would be one thousand times easier if you would listen to the chat. I know I was not even there, but I can't believe anyone wasn't screaming at the light dash section for example, you just had to press a single button to dash through the rings automatically...
Seriously. He keeps wanting to figure things out himself but CLEARLY he can't. Not sure if it's an ego thing or idk. The whole frustration could have easily been avoidable imo.
It's a shame you didn't like it, but I don't blame you. Some of us just have a higher tolerance for nonsense, which is probably a result of playing these games as kids, when we didn't have nearly as many games to play, so we really tried our best to get the most out of each one. I am basically immune to SA2 jank, but seeing someone with fresh eyes come to these games has definitely opened my eyes to just how rough they really can be. And yeah, I want to say that basically all Sonic fans agree that the SA1 treasure hunting levels were far better than SA2's. A better radar in less complicated, generally smaller levels is way easier to understand and more practical and respectful of your time as a player. SA2 levels are more interesting, I guess, but it felt like they made the levels more complex just for its own sake. Did Aquatic Mine really need a water changing gimmick? Did Dry Lagoon really need two completely separate arenas with no organic connection to each other? Did Mad Space really need reversed computer hints? Most importantly, did any of these added level mechanics make any of these stages better or more fun? I don't think any of them did. I'd play Red Mountain 100 times before Aquatic Mine or Mad Space. It may be simpler and easier, but it's also more fast-paced and functional.
If you don't like the game, that's perfectly ok. It's not a failure to not complete a game. Games are meant to be enjoyed, so if it's having the opposite effect then it's better to drop it
Hey Dee, man 2 things I want to say from my heart to you:
FACTS
Just what I came here to say! ❤
Probably didn't help your enjoyment of the game to start off on the hardest levels in the hero story after coming back to it after such a long time.
I was legitimately impressed with how well he played Shadow Generations.
I'M SORRY, BUT DID DEEBEEGEEK JUST COMPLETED SECURITY HALL ON HIS FIRST TRY WITH AN A RANK?!
If Dee is like this with SA2, what the hell is he gonna be like when he plays 06? XD
That game has a lot of skill issues... Developer skill issues!
Will you watch the cutscenes at least so you understand the story as that is the thing people love about it
Honestly I think at this point its better for him to do just that, it's the story for Adventure 2 that people think is peak most will say the gameplay didn't age well.
This. He did with chain of memories, not your standard game
It's alright Dee you got Xenoblade 3 to look forward to tomorrow :)
I'd kill to have a genuine person like you for a friend, the world needs more people like you
👆🏻
Lmao dude touch grass.
Ps: Another thing while watching this VOD (but not something i can even blame you for as a modern player)
Although the Devs had the genius idea of letting you move the camera with the right stick, they also constantly force certain perspectives to help you through stages which leads to a power struggle with player control.
Creds for trying a second time. Dude you left it all on the table. Well done, on to the next.
lol on to sonic hero’s!
oh noo, i wasnt in this stream. I'm really sorry, Dee. Hope this didnt ruin your end of the year. Keep your head up, tomorrow is another day :)
I was a kid the first time I played SA2 and it was the first video game I owned. I admit, it was frustrating at times and how I got stuck on a lot of parts. Once I figured them out they became tons of fun. I hope you are okay.
It’s a shame that he stopped at the last rouge mission
the game was fun back then.
Well, you did the best you could.
Maybe you should start Sonic Unleashed or go back to Frontiers. I don't know if you'll like Sonic Heroes or Shadow the Hedgehog if you didn't like Adventure 2.
Sonic Unleashed is a thousand times worse than this
@@Heathenshalt what are you on mate? he already likes the Boost Formula from playing Shadow Generations, and the Werehog is pretty straight forward. (no jank in the controls, and now treasure hunting)
alright, sorry, believe whatever the hell you want about unleashed
@@ArynBacklogDragon in terms of boost gameplay unleashed is pretty easily the most difficult one, i think he'd likely struggle with that game if he did with sa2
100% focused
Still misses the B prompt on the upper right corner of the screen ad infinitum
You gave it your best. There is nothing wrong with not enjoying a game.
1. You weren't reading your B button options during the sonic level where you had to use the ring dash (that got you frustrated) it says it on screen
Gliding around till your radar pings is much easier (imo) than trying to figure out the very cryptic clues that are more a hindrance on your 1st play through, (sorry if it came across wrong but this is what I was meaning and I type slow.) knuckles/rouge glide around ping search (acquire upgrades if needed) sonic/shadow your doing fine. tails/eggman you beat harder version in adventure 1 with gamma and his levels being timed already (just try to lock on to multiple mobs vs 1)
(My sister only played to raise chao at 1st she only played city escape over and over, till she realised other levels had other animals in them. she took hours exploring the space levels but she was still having fun why doing so.)
Don't hit yourself for not liking Sonic Adventure. If you like every game, you're not human.
You did your best and that's what matters.
I however can’t get behind the level designs, gameplay pace, and overall art style so 🤷♂️
Anyways, if u get around to playing heroes the same goes, do ur best, If u enjoy it, then great if u don’t then w.e, watch a few clips and move on to the next. Sonic games are hit or miss with people.
Unfortunately sonic adventure 2 was already janky after 1, but being the first 3d sonic on nintendo console is certainly the reason of its hype.
All good man, you don't have to force it!
Just stop playing. You gave it a good shot. Everyone knows the camera is bad. I say if your miserable playing it then you should stop
Meteor Herd and Crazy Gadget were the bane of my entire existence back in the day...
And Mad Space wasn't?
I grew up loving SA2 and to be fair, I played Mad Space for the first time in about 10 years a few weeks ago, and had a horrible time finding the emeralds and deliberately died various times just to re-randomise the positions. The whole Knuckles/Rouge gameplay style is terrible - especially as the stages get larger. I would also go as far as to say that the only fun gameplay style in the game was Sonic/Shadow.
Final rush is one of the hardest levels of that game
Now tbh???? This confirms that he’s more of a SA1 guy than a SA2 guy💪🏽😏 pointers for SA1 fans
This is why I only play Retro Nintend0
so, I'm a massive fan of the sonic series, and your content too.
The action command pops up on the upper right.
yeah a lot of gaming streamers/youtubers do stuff like that all the time
Play what you want man! You gave it a shot and it wasn’t working out
Gonna admit, I was not playing adventure 1 & 2 when I was young, grew up on the PS2 and Sonic Heroes was my Sonic game and still is
Wasn’t until 2022-2023? I downloaded SA1 & SA2 on my PS3 and the controls felt off, which I get, at that time weren’t the greatest. I’m sure if I grew up with those games I would’ve liked them a lot more, still enjoyed them! But not as much as I hoped. But I understand for many, SA2 is peak Sonic
You didn't Live and Learn😟
Jokes aside, If you ever want to give it another shot, I recommend going to stage select an simply run around an familiarize yourself with character controls as well as the game's physics.
SA2 Physics are way different from Modern Sonic, so that may be throwing you off at times. (EX, if you hold jump, you will go higher than if you pressed jump)
Don't feel too bad and ignore the haters. The controls in SA2 are jank, it will take you a while to get used to them.
Hopefully this experience didn't sour your opinions on Rouge.
She's a cool character but her levels in this game (especially Mad Space) are poopoo.
Camera has skill issues
Try baldurs gate 3! A lot of options for every playthrough, even failing moves the story forward!
Please don't beat yourself up about not finishing the game! If it's not for you it's not for you and that is absolutely alright.
Much Love, Dee❤
PS: if you still want to get the experience/hype you could consider watching a let's play/Cutscene compilation for the rest of the game since there are a few memorable and cool moments coming up.
The controls are janky at parts, Mad Space, the beeping noises in the mech stages and the bad audio in the cutscenes are what the game pretty annoying to me
As for 5:07:41 it might be nostalgia, the fact that SA2 is one of the more better Sonic games plot wise (at least imo) and the Sonic and Shadow stages.
I’d just watch the gameplay story if it’s too much for now. You’ll know Shadow’s and maybe it’ll help you pass later.
Dude you look totally defeated, get some rest man it's totally ok to write this one off
I played and finished the game a couple weeks ago (mind you following a video that mods the game for the ideal experience, controls, better emerald radar, less jank, etc.)
I would say I really enjoyed the sonic/shadow and boss portions of the game but I slogged through the tails/eggman portions and I utterly despised the knuckles/rouge portions even with the better emerald radar mod, I want to go fast, final rush while hard was very fun for me, though when you played the physics on the rails in that level didn’t look like they made sense to me so I couldn’t imagine how much harder it is on the original unmoded game.
The last story is one of the hardest levels I’ve ever played to and used a lot of lives just to get through it
I played adventure 2 for the first time recently and I really enjoyed it. So it’s not a nostalgia thing imo
a have played this game in mostly all consoles i put my hands on, i don't struggle to much with bugs and still epic as hell to me
30:43 why is Big just chilling in outer space 😂? He wasn’t there in the GC version.
Big's cameos weren't in the GameCube version.
@ unfortunately.
He played and loved Celeste!
Honestly? Don't beat yourself up over not enjoying this SA2.
There are plenty of games that are unanimously loved by others that no matter how much I try I just can't get into. (Chrono trigger, A link to the past, etc.)
You have every right to your opinion
Im disappointed that you didn't enjoy this game... This is a difficult game.
