This whole stream is nothing but peak cutscenes, especially for Mio. The flute exchange is still one of my favorites. Also 3:16:40 Myles makes an appearance and picks his favorite game(s). So wholesome!
2:33:24 I love this cutscene. It touches on some very existential questions and forces the player to question their surroundings. Manana's "World is bad guy" statement sounds silly because of the broken English of Noponspeak, but it is actually very true and real anti-establishment rhetoric. Then Noah goes into how the Power of Ouroboros is the power to enact change. It's so good!
It's not really even meant to be just an anti-establishment thing specifically. Even the basic act of eating is life taking from other life. The world is cruel, though this establishment certainly makes it more cruel than is absolutely necessary, and buries all the more peaceful possibilities out there.
This cutscene is really cool when you are able to identify that Takahashi, during it second half, is doing a neat reference to the philosopher Albert Camus, thoughs about suicide and meanings. The way Taïon talk about it is litteraly the introduction of his "Sysiphus myth" when he explained that suicid could be the only answer to free himself to this unjust world, but his answer to that, that world gonna keep moving with or without us, and the only way to fight it, "being in revolt" to it, is to search a meaning to our life in this pointless world, litteraly what Noah answer to Taïon thoughs. And when Noah explains it with the Moon, it's also a reference from the most famous scene in one of Camus play, "Caligula", when the emperor find a new meaning for his life after the death of his dearest one, telling to his servant that the Moon is the answer, and he has to get it, be his owner, or else everything is pointless, and if the world makes it impossiblle, he gonna fight against it.
I've watched the cutscenes so many times that I can see most bugs that happen here and there, like at 4:39:02 Noah says "What now?" with the Mobius helmet sound effect still active, which seems to be a low-pass filter on the voice lines :D
Mio is the best protagonist ever. Instead of just listening to the villain monologue forever, she just goes and punches the mudder in the face. That was one thing that really annoyed me about the end of Lora's arc. She just stood there, listening to the villain's verbal abuse, without actually having to. Her party outnumbered the enemy, they were armed to the teeth. Nothing at all stopped them from shutting him up. I was actually yelling at the screen. Mio doing what I wanted Lora (or at least Jin) to do was so satisfying.
2:59:15 Funny you should ask that: they're neither. Inside of the game's code, every playable character and hero is given a small identifier to determine their gender: 0 for male, 1 for female. Juniper is the only one that is designated with a 2, marking them as being quite literally non-binary. Given that every other character's pronouns match the respective number they were given, it is very clearly not an accident.
Your son is so cute. Must be amazing playing peak and then you get interupted by that adorable child and then going back to peak. Living the dream. Also amazing stream today. I absolutely loved the cutscenes today but especially the one about how we give the moon meaning. That has stayed with me till now.
Letting you know that this playthrough has gotten me to replay the game and it’s been great so far. Can’t wait to see your reactions to upcoming events!
Juniper is a girl. There were bad faith actors in the fanbase that cherry-picked datamined material and claimed she was nonbinary, but it turns out they intentionally left out that "gender" in the data tables is universally inconsistent, even for characters like Ethel. There was practically a gaslighting campaign taking place any time this game was streamed. There is nothing in the Japanese script to indicate that she is nonbinary.
This game is just peak. I am loving it with all of my heart and it makes me so happy to see you enjoying it as well. Thank you for your streams Dee and let me experience this wonderful game once more 💙 Merry Christmas everyone :3
This really was a beautiful chapter. Many scenes showing the complexity of the characters, most notably their flaws, and they do it in such nuanced ways. It’s honestly inspiring. Also your son’s gibberish was unbelievable adorable
Noah is this weird kind of mixture of extremely empathetic to others' suffering, but denser than a black hole about how they think, always just sticking to what he feels is best and stubbornly refusing to change course until he sees a problem. He's kind of been written that way ever since he made the squad miss their transport home to off-see the enemy soldiers in the prologue, and it shows here and there.
Merry Christmas Dee. Thanks for all the great moments and for playing Zelda and Xenoblade games (my favorites). I was looking forward to seeing you play xenoblade 3 and watch your reactions to the story. Im gonna Smash the like button like Noah said. Saludos desde Chile.
Im playing through it this holiday as well, and i knew I had to watch your playthrough after I beat a chapter. And my reaction when they had to fight Ethel also shook me. You'd think would probably one of the last bosses, but nope, the game is like, it's happening NOW!
I always try to do all the quests at a new colony, so it’s been helpful for me to watch things at a faster pace to make connections in the larger narrative. And as with the last episode, I see how grim this chapter is. Sorry if this is triggering for some, but the theme of suicide runs right through this section of the game. Taion’s speech, then Colony Tau’s resignation to their fate, then Mio’s self-awareness that her last days are not hers to really use as she wishes (i.e sacrificing herself), and then Ethel and Cammuravi’s double death. I assume it was intentional to cluster these scenes together, but I too got so distracted by all the things to do that I missed it before.
Never understood that weird gesture Isurd makes during conversation, but his class does great healing work and his disc launchers are pretty neat. Using his Arts in Master/Fusion Arts and Chain Attacks has the tendency of sending his discs flying in conjunction with Class Arts!
Yeah I will say this legitimately makes the combat like 10x more enjoyable. Its like elemental combat finisher/level 4 special from xenoblade 2 levels of important for dodging big attacks and especially since level 3 interlink specials can do the burst/smash combos extremely easily. It's kinda stupid that they wait for you to unlock it though, same with art of war or whatever its called that lets you cancel arts into arts. Oh well
Yea, i IMMEDIATELY turned that on. It sucks when my healers are low on health, and decide to spam going into ouroboros, only to be taken out due to the animation...

The mio punch scene is still one of the best. Its very easy to forget that the reason Lanz has his power frame is purely because Agnian soldiers are biologically that fucking strong that without them kevesi troops cannot compete, and then this scene happens and it reminds you just how strong they are on their own. I wish we could see more of that from taion and well... Sena works out and is the girl with the gall so her strength makes sense, its something that the game tells you but it only really remembers to display it in like 2 cutscenes. That and having the entire party being like "Noah, we're not showing this guy mercy; stay out of the way" and Noah's just like "Oh, I'm not gonna get in your way, this MF's dying by all our hands" is just amazing. And next up is chapter 5... Oh boy.
since it doesn't seem like the chat answered your question about juniper's gender. since it's never relevant to the plot or directly stated in-game, I'll answer it here: juniper is neither male nor female, they're a non binary character. in english, juniper is exclusively referred to via gender neutral pronouns, and more gendered languages tend to use both genders or avoid referring to their gender as much as possible. also, in the game's code, male characters are gender 0 and female characters are gender 1. juniper is gender 2. their VA also confirmed it.
Dee specifically asked for no tips, backseating, help, fun facts and such. He wants to discover it on his own tempo, and if he has any question he will specifically ask
@vtech88_the_one so... what you're saying is he's not gonna figure it out. Because the game never says it. It's something you pretty much figure out yourself based on the art design...
Fun fact Juniper is non-binary, they are never referred to as male or female in any language, their gender is listed as 2 in the character data (0=male 1=female, every party member has a gender in the data even though it's not used for anything)
Juniper should be the standard for representation. Nothing grandiose, just a character that happens to identify as non-binary. Makes them feel more human, besides the cat ears.
This game was robbed of it's best soundtrack award back when it was nominated in the 2022 Game Awards
But we did get the hero that is Epic Flute Guy!

That and having the entire party being like "Noah, we're not showing this guy mercy; stay out of the way" and Noah's just like "Oh, I'm not gonna get in your way, this MF's dying by all our hands" is just amazing.
And next up is chapter 5... Oh boy.
One cool detail about the environments in Xenoblade 3 is that they combine aspects of environments from Xenoblade 1 and 2
I’m about 1 video behind but I refuse to not watch the whole playthrough!
Fun fact! Juniper is nonbinary. Their gender in the game's code is 2, where male and female characters have an identifier of 1 or 0.
I still remember this being a big yay, until localisation insisted on picking gendered pronouns 😢
@ionickeith it what
@@ionickeithjuniper just has they/them in English wdym
First!
since it doesn't seem like the chat answered your question about juniper's gender. since it's never relevant to the plot or directly stated in-game, I'll answer it here: juniper is neither male nor female, they're a non binary character.
in english, juniper is exclusively referred to via gender neutral pronouns, and more gendered languages tend to use both genders or avoid referring to their gender as much as possible. also, in the game's code, male characters are gender 0 and female characters are gender 1. juniper is gender 2.
their VA also confirmed it.
Juniper is NYAN-binary
So does dee realize that lanz and his like are descended from the machina?
Dee specifically asked for no tips, backseating, help, fun facts and such. He wants to discover it on his own tempo, and if he has any question he will specifically ask
@vtech88_the_one so... what you're saying is he's not gonna figure it out. Because the game never says it. It's something you pretty much figure out yourself based on the art design...
@@michaellangley341by saying what you said, you take away any possibility of him figuring it out on his own. So yes, it's considered a spoiler.
Fun fact Juniper is non-binary, they are never referred to as male or female in any language, their gender is listed as 2 in the character data (0=male 1=female, every party member has a gender in the data even though it's not used for anything)
Juniper being a they/them is just so nice. Representation matters. 😊
Juniper should be the standard for representation. Nothing grandiose, just a character that happens to identify as non-binary. Makes them feel more human, besides the cat ears.
@@prof.laytonfan764agreed also we should get more gay or non-binary villains
But not enough to make death threats over it if it doesn't happen
When I first saw Juniper, I loved their design.
The green, short hair, orange top, cat ears.
There is literally no evidence of that, and the game data not specifying a gender doesn't mean anything in that regard. Other NPCs have that aswell
