Jon has shown so much diversity on Afterburner so far from his melodic vocals on strawberry's wake to his chilled and steady vocal on prisoner and now going back to more of his roots on Say Hi. Its really nice to see

@@carsonwilliams1705 Shark Dad is a song from their album instant gratification, it was one of the first few songs during the Tillian era to have lots of unclean vocals and generally sound more like a Secret Band song. Since then, every album has had at least one song that sounds similar.

This is my all time favorite dgd song. I relate to it so hard, I still cry when I hear it. To me it's what I feel like living with mental illness and coping with autism. "Masking" and acting as if I'm normal, when inside I constantly wanna die, I can't ever make friends or keep a relationship. Its so hard.
i feel the exact same way.
While I have autism myself, I feel like this hits home in a different direction. Both my mother and former stepmother were both physically and mentally abused by my biological dad. Some things such as “Did you notice I’m normal?” and “Love doesn’t make you crippled or enslaved” really stick. While he seemed like a nice guy on the outside, he wasn’t so nice back home.

I think BrokenAutumns means Acceptance Speech since it was the first album with Tilian. Truly, this album had something in it that the following works didnt. Its great to see the guys pay homage to that era in their sound
Not sure about old DGD vibe since theyve always been more funky.. This has Secret Band written all over it
DGD gets much older than acceptance speech. Listen to Downtown Battle Mountain for less funky sounding riffs and more post-hardcore sounds

Idk if you're familiar with Secret Band but Jon does vocals for that band. He screams like in this more dynamic way in basically all of their songs.

Maybe I’m overthinking this but:
This song seems to be about how it feels to live with mental illness and how people want you/expect you to be “Normal” and interact with others... which ultimately ends up in a situation where you really just want to die or be left alone instead of saying hi to that person.
That’s what I picked up from this song so I thought I share :). ALSO this is the best song of the album!

This one might be my favorite. Of course I need to listen to the album a billion more times to know for sure, but I think Say Hi will stay near the top. There’s something about the way the song glitches toward the end... that “normal-normal” has got me feeling some type of way
