I think the right way to listen to this song is by listening to Say Hi first and then this since the ending and beginning of each song seems to go together so well, probably even intentional by them
Agreed, cause hearing that "Mmm.", which sounds like a verbal shrug, nd then the straight kickass into Nothing Shameful is amazing. Can't hear it any other way now lol
@Brandon Mickley you think so? It think it's unique and stays in the DGD realm very well even though its taking on a more popular type vibe. Its also uniquely calming, even during Jon's part. This song feels like the band was like "what if we did chill lo-fi beats to study to" and this is what came out lmao It's no evaporate, but I think they're really nice songs for different reasons. : )
Lauren James “Taking on a more popular vibe” is usually not the best thing to do. I’ve been kinda worried about DGD taking a move into that direction like a few of my other past favorite rock bands. I love this band for their uniqueness, it would be sad to see them transform into some “trendy” band ya know?
I never see anybody talk about Tim's performance, so I'll do it. This is one of my favorite bass lines of his. Not overly complicated, but catchy as hell. I find that my favorite DGD songs are in line with my favorite bass lines.
Since Eidola, I dreamed of a DGD song with his guest vocals. Used to send messages to his now extinct Instagram, and he'd always reply saying that chances of that happening were high. Thought Evaporate was the sole fullfillment of this dream of mine. Gladly, I was wrong.
I love the synergy these guys have. A 4 minute song and no one in the band is left out. They even squeeze in another singer in without it sounding crammed. Talent in our generation.
Jon sounds quite emotional on this track. I know of course that this isn't the only time he has gotten emotional (Examples like: People You Know, People You Knew, Shark Dad, Care, ect.) but it just sounds like he's on the verge of tears durring this song especially during 0:54 and to be honest it actually kind of gets to me, though that could just be me. EDIT: This is a stupid comment but I'm keeping it up just for the replies.
its so fuckin funny how deeply personal his first verse appears to be and then it just turns into "i spilled my beans cos im a fiend, i lost my extra mustard". wonder if he's from florida.
terminallyCapricious Bro stop hating, generic emo vocals are never that smooth. You’re acting like he’s fucking Kellin Quinn lmao (no offense to him ofc).
terminallyCapricious bro you may not like him in the band but don’t call him basic. His voice is wonderful, and I don’t hear any sound of it being basic emo.
this song has brought me to tears so many times, it's so raw and deep and you can hear the pain in tillians voice its so beautiful This band is genuinely the best band i've ever heard
The way say hi leads into nothing shameful was so amazing my first listen through of the album I didn’t even realize they were different songs right away
Yoo, music is so beautiful! It is so strange how people of all ages around the world all love something at the same time but all the feelings and lyrics always feel so unique to yourself and what you are doing in life
this song gives me strong IG feelings, I love that this album gives us a little bit of everything from their discography. Another wonderful album gents
When I get the chance to hear this song live I am going to die. Especially at the part where Andrew is singing and you can still hear Tilian singing in the background.
I love these guys, when in a depressed mood, this band cheers me up. Especially when you down in the dumps about life and bulls***. Getting a drunk/high whatever, you hear the lyrics clearer it's insanely good.
Will Swan is the reason I picked up the guitar, I absolutely love hearing him play. He writes catchy melodies and they never get old, I could listen to him play all day.
1:40 "If you don't care you don't have to stay" Hit me, I feel like I always am doing something wrong in my friendships, I feel like it's hard to make friends now, 0:20 "Care, do you even care, if I'll be there tommorow" also really hit me so damn hard. Life's tough man.
The guitar at 0:29- 0:43 and 3:20-3:35 literally sounds like something out of an old school Sega adventure game/racing game F Zero GX or some obscure gamecube fighting game like Bloody Roar. I LOVE that they're taking some Jazz rock influence here similar to Slouch which sounded like it was from sonic the hedgehog or even Intervals maybe Also what are the lyrics at 3:31?
Blown away by the entire song, but that final part holy shit... btw, what's up with Andrew not being a part of the band yet? What do we need to make it official?
already favorite song off the album, and one that'll prolly be underrated. really getting some Kurt Travis vibes, especially those opening lines- the way he delivers that "allllll".

Still can't get over that Andrew Well's bridge, man. the melody, the lyrics, the tone of his voice. What a nice pace.
still cant
0:00 ok this one's my favorite. That intro slapped me in the face.
Take, all you do is take, you can have it alllllll
I think the right way to listen to this song is by listening to Say Hi first and then this since the ending and beginning of each song seems to go together so well, probably even intentional by them
Victor Rodriguez that is indeed how it’s structured within the album and that is ALWAYS on purpose.

This is the best from the album.
But Say Hi exists.

Tim makes everything work imo. matt said several times hes the best bassist hes ever written with.
Check out some dayshell and hands like Houses. They got pretty sick basslines too
Tim definitely killed it this album 100%
Ryan Mischler that’s saying something because Eric Lodge was a god too. Lemon Meringue has a fantastic bass line
We never knew we need Andrew Wells in our lives till we heard his voice in Evaporate
I mean he's been killing it since eidola
He's already amazing in Eidola, but in Dance Gavin Dance he's like a golden egg, so rare that it increases his value that much more
SINCE THE PROTAGONIST SET OFF FOR HIS ADVENTURES
but seriously Andrew is criminally underappreciated
Since Eidola, I dreamed of a DGD song with his guest vocals. Used to send messages to his now extinct Instagram, and he'd always reply saying that chances of that happening were high.

@Stephen j not even just that, he also plays guitar for dgd on tour
Andrew comin in for the kill.

To me, that's how he sounds in Born to Fail. Love it.
This is the one.
After hearing this, Andrew needs to become a full time member so there can be songs with him, Tillian, Jon, and Will all on vocals
He kind of is. Despite the lack of credit. Hes written multiple songs on the last few albums and he tours with them as a guitar player.
And Kurt, I'd say Jonny too but poor boy burned that bridge long ago
