The word “Bong” is used to call someone who is older enough to be your older brother or sister and NOT someone who is a lot older than you to be your uncle or aunt and older, or younger than you And also the ladies use the word “Bong” to call their husbands (only ladies) meaning “Honey, darling, sweetheart, sweeties”. The husbands call their wives “Oun” . I saw foreigners on UA-cam call everyone “BONG” 😁, it’s wrong!
BONG does not mean “BRO”. there is no real translation in English. It’s just a respectful word to call someone who is older than you, but not too old otherwise you call that someone “auntie, uncle, mom, grandpa and so on. in khmer of course” even though they are strangers. In Cambodia, You never call someone by name (disrespectful), unless you’re a very close friend.
បងBong is the polite word that call to someone eventhough older or younger but younger sometime only
🇰🇭🙏😘😊
Khmer rouge = Red Khmer = Khmer communist
You can watch a movie called " The Killing Field " to understand it
Please reaction (People go to Cambodia in Khmer new year 🙏❤️
Bong (បង) = Older bro/sis. = Sir/ madam. And to call everyone who older than us, sometimes even someone is younger we call Bong also when we never ever known that person.
Khmer Rouge is one of regime that Cambodia was fall in accidentally around 1975 to 1979. It's very very bad time for all Cambodian people.
From my 1997 dictionary: បង bɑɑŋ
1a n elder sibling.
1b p older, elder.
1c np you (addressing an acquaintance, friend, elder sibling, or husband).
Cambodia has two seasons: Dry (October to late April) and wet (May to late September).
a b c d e f g …x y z
Good morning bong
Bong can be older brothers, older sisters, husband, or someone older or someone we don't know, to show respect and politeness
Bong= sir =bro= brother=you
Bongបងit means old brother young sisters or younger brothers call older brother bong whoever born before you they calling bong
🇰🇭🥰👍
Any older one year or older in polite Bong.
Bong is refer to elder. Normally, in Khmer Culture we usually use the shortcut way.
Brother = Bong Bros, Sister = Bong Srey, Husband = Bong Somlanh, Pdey or Sva Mey.🤣So, we make it short just bong😁
it's a little bit complicate for foreigner or oversea people😅
Some traditions and food before the war are retained and lost by North American Khmer. Vise versa, the young Khmer generation im Cambodia retained a lot but lost some culture by a generation raised in thee Khmer Rouge Communist time. Something as simple as food in Cambodia is a lot sweeter than the generation before the war
Bong older person (non-gender) also meaning honey to a wife.
Oun an younger person (non-gender) or calling wife honey. Elder would take care of younger person and younger will respect you as elder. Also like senpai.
Most husbands do not like the wife to call someone (man) "Bong", it is okay to call old relatives.
Three seasons in Cambodia.
Bong is for someone older than you, it’s a respectful term. But… if you’re a woman, you can call your bf or husband Bong. It’s like calling. Him darling or sweetheart. So as a woman I would never call any strange man “Bong”. There would be a lot of weirdness like you refer to him as dealing. I grew up in the Us and is my ex-husband (who was along time bf), and I never called him by his name (that would be rude), so I only call him Bong. So whenever someone asked my ex-bf or ex-husband’s name I had to pause as I really don’t remember 🤣🤣
🧨 Khmer Rouge? You can watch Movies: First They Kill my father !
( War in Cambodia 1975-1979 )
Bong=grand brother or grand sister
Bong is a gender neutral word that you use to call someone older than you. Even if they are not older, but you call them bong to show respect especially strangers.
ហាយបង❤🇰🇭
Nah man, the word bong has lost its meaning. it’s more of a status thing in Cambodia. I’ve seen/heard an older dude calling a young dude bong just because he’s affiliated with the government. Sad!
Cambodian culture, when’s you meet someone you think they older than you, you have call them Bong, it doesn’t matter a man or woman
Bong - it mean a person is older then you n you always call them BONG
Cambodian culture, when’s you meet someone you think they're older than you, U can say Bong/Bang for man or woman. Or u can add the word after Bong/Bang is "Bros" for Man & "Srey" for Woman. These are the polite words for Khmer People say to another people. Thanks!🙏🥰
It’s true..Everyone went to Cambodia said Cambodian coffee taste better than Starbucks. Even my nieces and nephews (they were born in America)
good morning to Cambodia 😀🇰🇭❤️😍🙏
