  • This video demonstrates how to use calculate Spearman’s Rank Correlation Coefficient (Spearman’s rho) in Excel. Spearman’s rho is used to evaluate the association between rank-ordered variables and is a non-parametric alternative to Pearson’s r.

Appreciated hearing the difference in assumptions between the Pearson r and the Spearman's rho.

Though the audio of your video is very low, it is really easy to understand. This helped me a lot with my manuscript. Thank you!

Is the process for calculating SRCC the same for an instance in which there are tied ranks once you have corrected for the ties?

Your video is very clear, I appreciate it very much. Just a question Dr. Grande. I got my data from a survey in a likert scale. How can I use that into useful data here? I mean you show X and Y as a final test score and the GPA score, but I have answers with 1=never, 2=monthly, etc. I know that for Likert scale the mean is not representative as a central tendency measurement since there is not such as thing as monthly and a half, so I read I can use the median instead. Is the median the value of X and Y that I can use in this case to run the Spearman´s Rho? Thanks so much in advance for any kind of help you can give me.

You can check for biserial correlation if one variable is artificially dichotomous variable (X) and another is true continuous variable (Y)

    Hi, Dr. Todd!
I want to perform Concurrent Validity and Test-Retest Method.
May I use the same set of scores I used in Concurrent for the Test-Retest Method?
Thank you so much in advance!

What happened to the 6? Isn’t it 1-6*sumd^2(n^3-n)

Is the r value the same as rho?
