Thanks for posting. This month celebrates 40 years since this song charted. It got up to #62 and spent 6 weeks on the charts. I was a college DJ at the time and loved playing this record (in stereo). With it's slow, folksy start, to it's rocking ending, it was a great song to end a slow set and begin a more upbeat set. As I recall, it was only released as a single and then on the Dunhill Greatest Hits album, NOT on the EMI Greatest Hits album you find on Amazon. Great to hear it again.
I have remembered this song ever since I 1st heard it , too many years ago, while living in Stirling, Alberta. Also my favorite Andy Kim song, thank you thank you for making a video , my 45 copy of this song has been past all help for some time now!
On this day in 1971 {January 30th} Andy Kim performed his covered version of "Be My Baby" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'... Two weeks earlier it was at #39 on Billboard's Top 100, that was also it's eleventh and final week on the chart, and one month earlier on December 13th, 1970 it had peaked at #17 {for 1 week}... In his native Canada, it reached #6 on the RPM Singles chart... And on the same 'Bandstand' show he also performed "I Wish I Were Him", three months later on April 18th, 1971 it would peak at #62 {for 1 week}, and it stayed on the Top 100 for six weeks... "Be My Baby" was his second of four charted records on the Top 100 to contain the word 'Baby' in their titles; it started with "Shoot'em Up, Baby" {#31 in 1968}, "Baby, I Love You" {#9 n 1969}, the above "Be My Baby", and finally "Fire, Baby I'm On Fire" {#28 in 1974}... Andy Kim, born Andrew Youakim, celebrated his 71st birthday last month on December 5th {2017}...
Wow, I love finding postings like this! This is one my favorite Andy Kim songs also. The AM stations in Wisconsin played this for maybe a month when it came out, and i always wondered why it wasn't a bigger hit! 70's pop at its best, and most underrated!
Such a great song. 40+ years later - still sing this song in my head all the time. And a great riff too. BTW - I think the correct title is "I Wish I Were". Thanks for posting.
@pc88pc I am now 62 years old and this song tells the story of me and a girl that I new many, many years ago and I hope that she is doing OK ! Thanks for the post.
Thank you Incogneedle for this video. As much as I love rock Me Genly. This is just so much more "Andy". Ever since the 70's I have wanted to tell Andy that he is "him" to me. No offense to my wonderful hubby.
was one of his best. he has so much talent and not enough credit for it. I wish more of his songs were available on CD+g for karaoke love to try this one!

I have heard this song for years and never knew exactly where it had come from. Thanks for sharing.
I also Agree. This is my favorite. It expressed the emotions of unrequited love most of us experienced back in the day.
This IS my favorite tune by Andy!
Nicely composed songs that I will keep listening to daily.
Love you And Kim and continue to rest in peace.

Great song.Thx for posting.
"I wish I were he!!!" You got the subjunctive right, but not the subjective case?
Get with it, Andy!
I have been trying to find this song so I can add it to my playlist but it’s nowhere to be found. I can’t even download just the song here.
This site will convert the video to mp3: en.onlymp3.to/S69/
This track isn't on the greatest hits showing. It's on reflections and greatest hits 1968-1976
