      I live in suburbia, so daily commute will be 40 miles back and forth.

      Range extender or keeping the charger with you would advised!

      If you prefer a throttle bike, this one is not for you. But if you want a bike that you can peddle with OR without assistance and one that is relatively lightweight for an e-bike, these bikes are keepers. I can go about 80km (50 miles) on the flats with a mix of assist and non-assist depending on wind and grade, more typically 40km with hills mixed in.

      Takes me 60km on a full charge on the lowest assist mode and 39km on mid assist with 423 meter elevation gain according to my strava

    Thanks for the best review of this bike to date. Especially the laborious explanation of the torque sensor. I'm a trained bike rider, easily doing 150 km a day on a trekking bike, but I'm also getting older (approaching 70) and I look for a slight assist bike that is compatible with my 90-100 RPM cadence. This FX+2 seems to be the ticket. Thanks again.

    Thank You! Finally someone who does a proper hill climb test! I live in a smallish town with a lot of hills, Most rewievs were just people pedel around and have opinions are useless to me. But this one - good jobb!

    I just bought this bike last weekend. Absolutely love it. It's so smooth and lightweight. All the power I'll ever need in an e-bike.

    Thanks for the objective review. I'm considering this one and the Aventon Soltera and watched both your reviews. Appreciate your concise, on point delivery. Very helpful for my decision. Noticed that you didn't mention pricing.

      Thanks for watching! We appreciate the kudos. Which one are you leaning towards? Pricing changes often so we tend not to mention it unless it's remarkably low or high.

      Do yourself a favour and have a look at a Giant Explore E+, much bigger battery, better Yamaha motor with heaps more torque, the motor is mid drive which is superior, greater carrying capacity on the rear rack, has front suspension with a lockout, higher spec brakes, many other features that are noteworthy. The only downside is that it’s considerably heavier, that being said my 10yo son can ride it with ease, and it’s a large size frame.

    Thank you for your insights and the hard-work into this review, much obliged. I ordered one from some good folks near Vancouver, B.C.
    Only with your review could I be so confident of the purchase sight unseen. Really looking forward to finding out how I'll do with it. *fingers crossed*

      I tried and tried but my google fu is too weak. I couldn't find the service fee info and I couldn't find a price for the FX+2 battery. Maybe some kind soul can necro this comment thread and chip in on the details one of these future days.

    Sucks the EU version is restricted to 25kph...any idea if a VPN set to US on the App would work or is it built into the bikes software?

    Why is it so hard to find out if these batteries can be replaced at home? I know their Electra brand bikes look pretty bargain-y. But what about the Dual-Sport & FX series>?

    my biggest issue with this bike right now is that the price isn't very far off of the verve+ 2, which is kind of in a diffferent league.

      In case anyone else has this question: It's a bit hidden, but you can find it on the trekbikes listing. Scroll down a bit on the listing, click the "Service" tab, and scroll down to "Find related parts." It's in the battery category.

      The Chinese companies like Himiway are a better buy for the money. Legacy brands like Trek can't compete because of the higher cost structure they built into their business models.

      The lightest Himiway bike weighs 61 lbs. compared to the FX+ 2's 40. It's a completely different riding experience, and a significant issue if you have to carry the bike up stairs or lift it onto an automobile bike rack.

      I bought a really cheapie no-name Chinese fixie from a local gentleman here in VAncouver some years back. I was really surprised it didn't rust. We are talking servicible steel/aluminum. So yeah go China go!
      Having said that, if you can afford it, by going with a Giant or a Trek you are availing yourself to a whole new level of of certified service and aftermarket ecosystem. So if you can afford it, treat yourself to something better ^___^ But if you gotta save every nickel and dime--I get it. I was there too--like--there are definitely deals from China--if you know what you are doing.
      For my Chinese fixie, I took out the handle-bar for something bull-like, aggressive. I added cork wrap. I added a minimalistic bell. I also added Brooks saddle. All in all, the accessories ended up costing more than the Chinese fixie but it was something I could love ^___^ Trust me, a gel cover on a Brooks saddle and your butt will be in heaven just like if you were riding a chill'n island cruiser as slow as can be.
      The handle-bar was however a tad too aggressive, but it looks coo ^___^

    Is the bike suitable for fat, lazy baby boomers like me that can't be arsed pedalling? I weigh over 200 pounds.

    • @ElectricBikeReport
      @ElectricBikeReport  Рік тому

      In terms of weight, you'd be fine - a few of our testers are in the same neighborhood. You may want to consider something with a bit more power though, this is definitely one that requires pedaling! Also, no throttle here.

    • @stevenbissett
      @stevenbissett Рік тому +1

      @ElectricBikeReport Thanks for that. If I'm honest, I'm more like 300 pounds and struggle to lift myself up from the couch.
