  • Carbon film doesn’t have any metal in it, so the issue with cell phones and radio transmission doesn’t arise when it is used (metallic window tint). Carbon window-tinting film is dark and matte-finished, so it provides a tasteful option on windows. The carbon content of the film blocks about 40% of the infrared light (the kind that causes warmth) that enters through the windows. Carbon window-tinting film is about as effective as other varieties in blocking heat; its use will effectively cool inside space while also helping prevent fading to upholstery. In turn, the air conditioning will not need to work so hard to cool the space during the summer, nor will the heating system be so heavily impacted during the winter. Unlike dyed film, carbon film will not fade with time.
    Ceramic film is the highest quality of window tint film, and also the most expensive, contains neither metal, dye, nor carbon, but instead a kind of ceramic particle that is both nonconductive and nonmetallic. Ceramic film has only recently appeared on the market, but has already proven it's worth in terms of performance and reliability. Ceramic window-tinting film cuts from 45% to 50% of the solar heat that enters through the windows in the form of infrared light, while allowing maximum visibility both by day and night. Like carbon film, ceramic window-tinting film allows maximum efficiency in the functioning of radios, cell phones, GPS systems, and all other such devices being operated from inside the protected space. It surpasses the other types in its resistance to glare and fading, and it also renders windows highly shatter-proof. Ceramic film is most effective in its ability to blocking of ultraviolet light from the interior; in the case of ultraviolet light (the kind of light rays that contribute to sunburn and skin cancer), ceramic window-tinting film can block up to 99% from entering the interior.

    Ceramic tint is legit. Once you experience it, you'll never be able to drive a car without it. It's not cheap, though. I paid $650 for all windows, including the windshield, and taillights. It's been almost 7 years since I got the tint and it still looks like new.

    Ceramic is expensive AF, but worth 110% of every penny. I did 15% all the way around + 60% on the windshield for my Lancer & it was a HUGE difference. My A/C doesn't need to be cranked up as much, and my car stays way cooler. Plus, having my kids on the back for 2 hour trips to my mom's once in a while, they stay cool as well. Since I drive an oil burning engine, enough heat in winter is an issue... ergo, heated seats, and a coolant heater spliced in for helping with cold starts and cabin heat when you get those -30C days. You can retrofit that same sort of thing into a gas engined car too. Alternatively, just get a shop cut out your windshield and swap out all your glass each summer/winter season, like tires! Sry, but that tint test is total BS. I tint windows for llumar, and it works for about 5 mins out in the sun. If you put 2 of the same cars side by side in a parking lot, with diff tint. Ceramic/ metallic. They will be the same temp inside after 20 mins. While the heat lamp test makes it look really good, what they fail to say is the tint also won't let heat escape as fast. The ceramic is better, but only bc it lasts longer before fading.

    Curious on this, if you can follow up (another short video maybe, for all the relevant questions we have?)... I can see the rainbow colour shift from your camera on the IR ceramic tint you opted for the windshield. Can you see the same colour shift in person, with your eyeballs? And second, how does the tint look when you're using polarized sunglasses? I'm asking mainly because I wear prescription glasses, and I have a set of polarized ones for driving to cut glare during the daytime, all year round. If there's a rainbowed moire pattern with polarized lenses, then that'd be a no-go for front window/windshield tint, for me.

    • @chrstphrr
      @chrstphrr 5 років тому +3

      Follow up question: If there is an issue with polarized lenses and that tint, can you tell us how the IR tint affects glare while driving? Does that tint cut down on glare, or increases it? Does it work fine with normal-ish dyed sunglass lenses, if not the polarized ones?
      From a practical standpoint, if I'm saving $$$ on not buying polarized sunglasses, versus dyed lenses for prescription sunglasses, and shifting it into tint, and getting the same results, I am game for that. Looking forward to a follow up video on this, Milan! :)

No exceptions.(well.. the stations that dont' do it have been shutdown by the state police in the last few years) They also check the front to verify that there's no film on it. Even completely clear film is not allowed. What's even more strange is that the inspections require the driver to remove those little wide-angle mirror on outside rearview mirrors. :(

    Omg I am so tired of this argument.
    Yes!!! Infrared is blocked by glass, with or without a tint!! One thing I learned when studying thermodynamics and heat transfer especially when specifically applied to hearing and cooling of spaces, I learned that about 80% of heat in a car comes from not the glass, but....THE METAL!!!! (Audible gasps from the crowd) I know, I know, seems crazy that the part of the car the covers the majority of it would be the part that transfers the most heat, but it’s true!! Tint will help keep interior temperatures cooler, for longer, by a couple hours maybe. And will make a huge difference when driving and using the A/C system. But for a car parked for a work day, it won’t make the slightest difference. Thermal equilibrium will be met, and it will be at the same temperature as before the tint
