  • It uses half the Water, taking less than half the time, to wash, rinse, and wring-out a bucket of Clothes...; despite having to wash the bucketful in two batches....
Two lots of 50 minutes, using 25 litres for each load, gives 100 minutes & 50 buckets of Water...; as compared to 240 minutes and 100 - 120 litres, with the old direct-drive Tumbler-types...., and one doesn't have to freeze one's hands wringing out coldwater washed Laundry in Winter, either....
So, literally twice as good, in each of 3 separate and independant Measuring Criteria...; which is almost "mind-buggaringly impressive", after 20 years spent using the earlier iterations...!
The Miracles of modern Progress, indeed.
And, not only but also..., but my $50 Handheld 3-D Printed UV-Cured Plastic Gap-Filler actually
    "Failed to Fail....(!)",
as well - despite the savage violence of the abundant Vibration which was attendant on running the Drum at 5.5 to 1 Step-Up Ratio...!
One wonders how long the Plastic Planetary-Gears will withstand such heavy oscillating Load-cycles....
I'm probably goanna open up the Gearbox, & grease it's Innards with Olive Oil... (because Nylon absorbs Mineral Oils & Greases, and thennit swells up - making Bearings tighten and causing Gears split asunder Radially...!).
Sometimes..., it really IS a matter of What you know, regardless of Who you know...; and trying to lubricate Nylon with Dinosaur-Juice is a total No-No, y'know...(?) !

    Hello Chris,
I'm surprised to see that this thing uses almost as much water as my by hand method.
I wash mine in a 5 gallon bucket, 2 gallons at a time with a total of 6 gallons used per load. hand agitation.
The amount of clothes you washed there seems to be equivalent to what I call a load more or less.
The time factor is hard to measure as your machine removes quite a bit of water from the clothes and I do not ring my clothes by hand. I only squeeze them gently. The reason I do not wring my clothes by hand is because I tend to damage the stitching when so doing.
I use a solar dryer so drying time is relevant to the amount of sunshine ( and wind ) we get in the day.
The five gallon bucket I use would cost about $2.50 American if I purchased it new. I recycle old paint buckets instead thereby cutting cost by 100%.
Add hair shortly I will pack a bowl for you but due to social distancing I will not pass it across the ocean but rather smoke it myself in your Stead.
    C'est la vie.
    Namaste
    Richard

      G'day Richard,
      Thanks mate...
The hardest part of washing with the "Tumble-Drums" was getting the Soap out of the Clothes..., and hand wringing alternating with dilution was using about 85 of the 100 or 105 of 120 litres...
I didn't realise how effective the Spin-mode would be..., so the new unit can probably get through the whole Bucket of clothes in 1:40 rather than 4:00, while using only 50 Litres.
My only worry is that the Drive-Handle & Gear-Train us copping a LOT of Stress - so it's a good thing there's a Spare in the Box.
One wonders if Trumpy has really beaten CoViD-19 in less than a week (?).
Either he's had a mild case, or he's going to suddenly get VERY sick in a couple of days..., or he's tested Negative after hearing of Hope Hicks' Result & this past 4 days has been Play-Acting to make his Supporters think he's immortal & CoViD-19 is not actually a problem.
It's bloody difficult to know what to make of anything announced by the US Government these days...

      G'day,
      Thanks.
I haven't had a Bath for years, it takes about 160 litres of Water..., versus 12 litres for the Shower.
The Tumbledrum type uses 15 litres to Soap-up the dirty clothes, and then 85-105 litres to rinse the Suds out again.
The Spin-dry function ("Dehydrating"...) is very efficient at conserving water.

Did that actually make it any easier ?
My issue with the Tumble-Drum type wasn't with the turning of the handle so much as the amount of time & water they go through while getting the Soap out of the Clothes...
If the Crank-Handle and Gears can stand up to the strain, then it's an absolutely great idea.
And there is a Spare one in the Box.

Well, yeah, but with the Tumbledrums..., they don't work at all if spun too fast - the Water & Clothes sit at the Ends, pinned by Centrifugal Force...; to wash the Dirt out requires slow "SplooshSplooshSploosh..." tumbling ; so everything is repeately pounded as it keeps falling out of the high end...
      They almost need a Step-Down Ratio..., rather than a Bicycle's Step-Up Drive-Train.
This thing is cunning, in that the Tub of Water is under the rotating perforated Drum, which has Agitator Baffles moulded into the outer-wall..., so even when the Clothes stick to the Drum - they get dipped in the Puddle once per Rotation, for 45 Degrees either side of Bottom Dead Centre, and during the rest of the 270-Degrees the Soapy Water is being flung out of the material again....
And without the Puddle in the Tub, it spins almost all the water out of the fabric - cutting the Rinse-Water required by about 60%.
Cunning as a Shithouse Rat..., when closely considered...

As long as the Gearbox and Crank-Handle can stand up to the Strain, then it's a great improvement ; half the water and half the time...

      G'day,
      Thanks,
      I dunno...;
It was a present from my mother, and she died in 2022, but she got it from a
      Mail-Order Company called
"Innovations", and I vaguely recall them being somewhere around the $120 mark (?).
Good luck with finding them now...(!).
They're a bit delicate, actually the main Shaft in the Step-Up Gear-Train is
      Nylon,
      Square,
      And only about 5mm thick.
      So heavy loads,
      Vigourous operation,
      Or
EVER reversing the direction of the Cranking are
      ALL
      Likely to shear off that
      Little Square Shaft...
So it really isn't amazingly practical, in real life.
Since returning from being treated for Cancer, once a month I spend 2 hours drinking Coffee in the Laundromat in town and emerge about $20 poorer but with clean and dry Clothes all done till the Bag runs out of Socks, or all 3 pairs of Work Jeans are too dirty to wear (!).

Google should put you in touch with them...

Um, well, if money was no object...; I would put up the 20'x 30' Prefab. Shed, and stick a Verhanda around it, effectively a bigger version of this little Hut, I'd get propper Water-Tanks, and a bigger Solar System..., and I'd have a bew Fence put around the whole Block.

      Thanks mate,
I don't see anything changing any time soon, one of us has to die for the other one to inherit their share of the Property..., and I don't expect her to drop dead any time soon.
Last week was the anniversary of her eldest son hanging himself, and I haven't heard of her having done a "Copycat", so clearly stress & grief aren't pushing her in that direction...
It's 18 years now, so I suppose that if they have Elections in the Afterlife - then his Shade is now old enough to cast a Vote there (!).
I used to worry about her at about this time of year, but she seems determined to outlive myself, and her mother is 91 & not out.
Perhaps I could "Point the Bone" at her, but I don't want the bad Karma attached to that.
As long as she stays a hundred miles away from me, then I'm doing pretty well.
My greatest fear is to have her show up on my Driveway, with everything she owns in a Shopping-Trolley..., here to invoke the "In Sickness & In Health" Clause....; my plan for that would be to issue her with a Tent & point her at the Yarraford Camping Ground.
If I welcomed her here, out if sympathy, then she would pick a fight, call the Cops, have me dragged off because she "felt frightened" ; and then I would be homeless and the Wildlife would have to put up with her, and her Cats, and her Dogs.
So I devoutly hope that she never shows up.
I spent 7 long bloody years observing the "For better or for Worse" & the "In Sickness and in Health" Clauses, and I don't reckon I could do that again.
After decades of preaching Pacifism, she could easily provoke me into treating her like a Computer - and punch the Datapoints into her awareness for her.
My son hasn't spoken to her for about 15 years, and my daughter first moved back here a couple of months ago - and then conspicuously did not go and visit her over the long weekend..., so apparently watching her Mum violently shake a Dog by it's Ears while screaming into it's face (for having resisted being dressed in a miniature T-Shirt...), has finally convinced her at age 30 that a Violently Selfish Bitch is always lurking within, just below her mother's Skin - permanently gritting it's Teeth, quivering with rage, & always ready to burst through the thin veneer of propriety & gentility - which she thinks she projects so well...

I dunno if they make a bigger version...(?) ; bigger would be better - but the Nylatron Shaft and Gears in the Primary Drive -train are already right on the hairy limits of overload failure.
So, having tried to repair a broken Shaft, and had the Steel Screwed Epoxy Repair snap-fail first time in use...; I would expect a fully-metal train of Gears and Shafts in Bushes, to cope with the existing Unit - and then make something which can wash a 10-litre Bucket of dirty (dry) clothes, or a double bedsheet, or a Towel...
But then it would need to be bolted to a Concrete Slab, or heavy built and braced Wooden Flooring...
      In my opinion.

      G'day,

I have got a 240-Volt Washing-Machine, but I've never tried using it, initially I didn't have enough (petrol-powered) Electricity to feed it ; and I still don't have a Tank on a Tower - or an Electric Pressure-Pump, with which to supply it with Water.
So I've been using Hand-powered Washing-Machines for 20 years - before that I used to take my Washing in to town.
This Gadget is great, it used 50 litres and 1:40 to wash the Bucket of Clothes, instead of 120 litres and 4 hours...; so as long as the Crank-Handle & Gear-Train can cope with the strain then I'm delighted with it.
