- Rep. Katie Porter is a firm believer in transparency and accountability in government. She broke down her funding requests for next year's budget so Orange County families would know exactly where she stands and what she's fighting for.
Rep. Porter, i wish that I lived in the US, and OC, so that I could give my vote to you.
What- and how you say the things that you do, gives me as a foreigner some hope that the USA can get back to be the nation that myself, and many more, fell in love with and most of all respected! You are the true model of a politician who does the right thing, you work for the people and the greater good!

I love the idea of protecting older Americans from scams!
We need to do more to help them with using newer technogy as well.
I wish we had some laws or a program that ensures our seniors won't be left behind since everything is done online from computers and smartphones.
Perhaps this could be done through other accessibility programs?
And remember everyone, advancements in technology improves exponentially over time, so by the time we're 80 years old, the tech we're used to will look just as alien as today's tech looks to our parents, grandparents, and great grandparents!
Online is a scam. Not everyone wants to be digitized. I identify as analog. Let me/us/they/them have the freedom of choice. If elderly aren't online, the scaming slows right down, dementia and forgetfulness are real
@@oldblack15 - While I agree there should be an analog option for most transactions - both commercial and governmental - it is both inevitable and practical that more of these kinds of interactions will migrate online.
Even the most common transactions have at least part of its process digitized - like buying and selling your home!
How are we expecting each successive generation to be able to handle this rapidly-changing technological environment as we get older?
I would really like to see those in Congress pass some regulations or standardizations regarding accessibility - not only for physical limitations - but also for the eventual limitations of everyone for learning new tech as we age.
@@oldblack15 It's true much of the scamming takes place on line, because it is so cheap and easy to make contact with the public, and to pinpoint the most vulnerable groups. However, as she mentioned, when the scammer is the victim's provider of health care or other essential services, then education is essential, both for the old and their families. There is also no lack of scammers on the phone (yes, especially landlines), in the mail, and sometimes even on their doorsteps.
Personally, I think that this is one of the many lessons that should begin in early childhood.

I was raised in Orange County -- an Ozzie & Harriet life in the 50s and 60s -- but I couldn't possibly afford to live there now. I'm so impressed with this woman's understanding of rules of governance, her approach to serving her constituents and meeting their needs.
Katie is the hardest working Congressperson in DC! She should receive hazard pay for having to work with some of her less diligent, honest & qualified colleagues.

My top 2 getting poisons out of our food and funding the top end IRS section to stop the rich corp/people from cheating on their taxes. All are important, but if we force the rich to actually pay their taxes, we would have the money to support hundreds of programs. The 3 most understaffed, underfunded dept.: FDA, EPA and Consumer Protection Agency, all would benefit from the trillions of dollars wasted on DOD.
Necessary set of programs each and every one! My fav is the LGBTQI+ program; as the sister of a gay man and the aunt of a trans woman (lives in the OC), I despise right-wing attacks on this group of Americans. They deserve and need support. What is your opinion on introducing legally binding term limits for SCOTUS judges? Could they be a means to force the court to apply and interpret legislation in a manner more closely adhering to the interests of the people? For example limiting the Time in office to 20 years or until they reach a set retirement age (e.g. 75 years), with Congress having to reconfirm them after 10 years and retaining the option to waive the term limitation/retirement age through a majority vote?
Some type of reform is needed for sure. Its a long process that needs to be done before more freedoms are extinguished.

It’s so shortsighted not to keep people healthy and independent. Seniors who can’t hear become socially isolated and depressed, which results in not taking care of themselves. Since they’re also dealing with the normal physical challenges of aging, it can be a death spiral. Getting people the best hearing aids for their condition would cost about $5K every 5 years. Those people stay active and involved in their communities, contributing in every way from doing paid work to all the unpaid or temp tasks we rely on elders for, like election workers, charity support and staffers, childcare for their families and other younger people who in turn can help their elders with new tech or physical tasks that have become too difficult. It also saves the costs of warehousing until death people who still have so much to offer if just given a chance.

Instead how about focusing on groups like Blackstone and other companies that are out to create a nation of renters, therefore stifling growth further of the middle class. Also, especially in cities in CA there is rampant crime and homelessness - THAT AFFECTS EVERYONE. Also, our education systems are massively failing "land acknowledgments" are a waste of time. It's also free to take your kids/family to a park - why does more money need to go toward that.
The amount of money and funding that has gone to so-called LGBTQ+ initiatives is ridiculous and some of them create more problems. Not to mention CA is already insanely progressive with all this, it's a waste of money.
Also, there should be widespread mental healthcare for EVERYONE. That would actually solve many of the current problems CA faces. Hopefully, Michael Shellenberger will be elected and resolve that issue.
This ideology of nonsense and division is a distraction from real issues.
Finally, the majority of Asian HC (as shown by the data) have been perpetrated by a specific group and demographic that will never be held accountable because of their "protected" status, so, therefore, it's a huge waste of money.
Nobody holds corporate sectors to account more effectively than Katie - go ahead and ask her office to look at corporate landlords! Yes, mental health care for everyone would be ideal - let’s get a foot in the door with new parents. Education and most of the crimes you’re concerned with are under state, not federal, jurisdiction, so you have reps in the state legislature you should address on those issues.

I wish Ms Porter would run for Prez. She appeals to reason and logic. She doesn't take PAC 🤑. She is a great example of someone who isn't phenomenally wealthy, and still remembers what it's like to live on a minimalist budget. She also sounds almost the same today as she did when she was first elected, unlike many of the other so-called activists (e.g. AOC). She's "real". That's why she won't be President. I don't agree with her all the time, but she seems sincere in her thought processes.
I don't think AOC has changed, she is still pushing a progressive policy, but she also attracts more controversy and attacks, and she might not use the same approach as Katie, but she also calls out the corruption in government.

I like her interactions in committee meetings and Congressional hearings, but she has gone silent on at least two of her signature items: M4A and Green New Deal. I also thought she'd be more vocal about statehood for PR. Nope. AOC is not alone. Jayapal, Omar, and Khana..... have gone silent as well. Even Bernie only recently became vocal again. Sigh 😔
