Not a battery problem. I had 97% battery when mine shut down and wouldn't restart even with holding button. Just tried holding button for a much longer time and it finally blinked yellow 5 times and reset! Thanks to another commenter for suggesting this! I had to press the button for over 30 seconds.
Press and hold the power button until either a power dialog box appears or the screen goes blank. Continue holding the power button for 40 seconds, then release... I searched it on google... It worked...

Even though I left the button pressed for 40 seconds the Kindle was unresponsive, but as the button showed signs of life, I left the USB cable connected to the PC and left the button pressed against a stand and went to do other things on the PC when, surprisingly, it restarted. I basically spent about 10 minutes with the button pressed and it came back to life... When I held the power button I noticed that the LED lit up green for a few moments and then flashed green and then switched the color to yellow, flashing 3 times and flashing green again, as if the command to reset the kindle was not working, but... It worked after 10 minutes with the button pressed while the Kindle was connected to the PC via USB cable.
@@princesso7377 I ended up, prying the back off, very carefully and was able to detach the battery. I reconnected the battery and it fixed my issue. Just be careful when pulling off the back of your kindle. 😊
In my case i could not unlock the kindle paperwhite. It came out that that was due to using a case (i don't know how and why). If I put the kindle in the case it does not unlock, while if i do not use the case it works properly
Your battery is fried, I suggest you use the guarantee on it if is still possible . Same happend to mine but before it did that, the battery was running low so fast

My situation is it's stuck in the home screen and the screen light ups for a split second and then lights turn off while in the screensaver black and white screen. Basically it can't exit the black and white screen that shows up after you turn it off.
Take the back cover and just disconnect the battery and connect it - just worked for such case of not turn on. I took the back panel out with back Tire changers, to not do damage. After i connect and reconet the battery, its just little tinny thingy u need to remove and get back, it restarted itself.

I plugged it to the charger then the low battery icon came out. it was just drained out of battery but somehow got stuck in the homescreen. charged it for a while then worked perfectly fine again.
I had this problem today. I held the button down until the light flashed three times and went off. It gave me a window to choose and I clicked "restart". It went through a downloading routine and everything reloaded and came up. Hope this helps someone else.
I have a similar problem, it freezed in the usb mode with the leds on, i took off the battery and it doesn't work at all, even without battery the usb screen still there, i've tried to hard reset it, but it only flashes the red led 5 times and then the screen lights turns off and then they turns on again, i don't know what to do, i've been charging it with the original charger, i have the same model of the video, 6th gen, pls, somebody help me :c

Keep pressing even after it blinks and try to have it in the charger too.
