One negative thing about inverted kingpins is you can’t keep track of how loose or tight the trucks are by looking at how many threads are above the bolt(unless you take the truck off and look underneath)
Try turning both nuts, with the same arm, to the range of tightness that you like. Tighten the front while taking note of how hard it feels to tighten once it's at your preferred spot, then try the back truck while feeling for that same range
@@norvillerogersgreeneryknight then could use marks to keep track if it backs off.
you would think some company would improve on this issue... maybe there could be a little hole or window on the baseplate that lets us peak at the nut. get us some weight saving too.
@@burger1113 yea I always have just 1 or 2 threads showing and my ocd would be bugging me
@@burger1113 honestly a brilliant idea dawg
At 10:56, you talk about how you liked the bushings a bit more. Jamie Foy has said that transparent colored bushings are better than the solid color ones. It supposed to be due to the properties in the color dye when the bushing is made. He talks about it on the 9club if anyone is curious.
These bushing are terrible. Blew out right away.
I’m sure there’s pages on slap about bushings
Back smith was so clean on the bank to ledge. Great video !
Thunders for me is the perfect truck. I like aces but sometimes they are too high. Thunders turn good but still not that tall
Most people like thunders for the lack of turning too much. Indies feel soggy to me. Thunders more sturdy.
so stoked for these
I wanted more of a street skateboard setup so I recently put Thunder hi 149s on a new 8.5 ML deck. 97a nano cubics 52mm. Super Fun Setup
❤Indy MiDs, yup!
Dowdy I skate venture loose teams the 8.5. I have two washers inside and one outside to further space a spitfire classic. Also, one additional bones washer on back truck on top of stock top washer, to make the rear truck one turn tighter without hammering down the nut. I like seeing the nut flush with the kingpin and that setup allows the front very loose and the rear a smidge tighter. In the early 2000's we all dealt with grind Kings coming loose without warning so I wonder if you'll stay on those thunders. Good luck!
I’ve noticed after watching a bunch of vert competitions on UA-cam, there are a lot of skaters riding thunders on vertical.
Jimmy Wilkins is a good example!
Because they are more stable than indies and venture with less turning capabilities.
That’s true. SkateIQ he rides thunder and he’s literally the best tutor out there. And jimmy Wilkins he rides thunders. Dan corrigan switched to thunders from Indy, and he skates transition so smooth.
@@ZackDowdySkateIQ he rides thunders and he’s so sick.
@@Tehkneekzventures are my go to for street, but because they have quick turns jerky turning, not smooth at the end, Thunders seem to be a medium between Indy and Venture.
I love thunders, and you have the team hollows. I remember because I was doing a lot of research on those, since I wasn’t too sure about the whole forged base plate, but still wanted light trucks.
That's right, the team hollows!
I've always skated the inverted kingpin even back in the day I had the grindkings but sents I've started back skating In September I've been on the kruxs dlks theyer a little loud but I like em
these new thunders are pretty sick but you should totally do a slappy truck review I feel like they would fit your skating perfectly!
I'm still running my Indys with Grindking kingpins on my 'push about' board :)
Always rode thunders since early 2000s, the trick to make them feel loose is on the bottom bushing take out the washer closest to the base plate, my thunders turn better than Indy's, love Indy's too
Seen John hill review these they look good but they need a standardized inverted kingpin not this fancy one
john hills review was annoying he kept being a baby about how loose they were
I’ve been converting my ACES with Inverted kingpins, got over catching on feebles etc.
Are they taller than usual Thunders? It seems the baseplate is pretty modified
It's so weird they went the old grind king method with an Allen key to tighten it when indy already made a better design that can use both Allen key and a skate tool just seems like a step back to me
Zack! What park is that? We have a similar vertical curb here in Hawaii kai but it’s straight vertical . That little slope on that curb is perfect. I can still do slappies on ours but it’s hard as it’s a regular vertical 2’ curb I wish it was more friendly.
It’s Bishop Skatepark in Oceanside
@@ZackDowdy weird , it looks like it’s in somebody’s back yard?
Truck company named ”DeadBolt” did that on 90’s already…
Did they get loose with time? My indys mid did, that sucks
All trucks do when new as the bushing break in
@@Tehkneekz I skate the Indy Mids and that inverted kingpin actually comes loose. It’s a pretty well known problem. I’ve used teflon tape and it’s seemed to help.
Independent and Ventures. Make my skating so much easier. Venture in the street, Indy for everything else, and in the street too. I never skated Slappy or Thunder. But I’ve tried a few I didn’t like “Tensor” mag lights and the aluminum ones, no turn. Ace af1s I like the turn, not the pop. But they look great And have good quality. Krux not for me, the turn is better than tensor that’s for sure. But they are to light, even the 8.5s are super light feeling, but now I think it’s the geometry 📐 that I didn’t like the angle the hanger sits.
The bushing are trash they split/blew out first session and I barely tightened them. My smiths are way easier and I had one of my best sessions this summer tho.
You don’t lock with your kingpin, you lock against the ledge with your wheels so the smith you missed had nothing to do with your kingpin
That’s exactly what I was thinking too. You can see he missed getting into it.
Slappy s look promising
Independent inverted king pins dominate these also you literally just need a Allen wrench or a basic skate tool to tighten them 😊
Silver tool does not fit them
@@Tehkneekzthe t tool does the job
Indy inverted king pins are trash lol. They get loose easily and have worse clearance than stock high indys... Also the shape and the hardness of the inverted king pin makes the sticks on ledges worse than a normal king pin nut which is softer metal 🤣

Thanks for the review. Seems like the common theme is the soft bushings make the trucks feel loose. Also think it’s funny that they’re sending the Spitfire tool to all UA-camrs for reviews but not including for the people spending their hard earned dollars. If you need a special tool, include it! Great video showing the benefits and downfalls of the IVK. Personally, I’ll pass.
And in 151 sizes, which aren‘t available…
For every vid i see about these trucks i have one question. Is the king pin the weak point? Will it break first? Any inverted kingpin I've come across has had that issue and i believe its simple do to the design. Instead of a fixed kingpin, its able to wobble. That wobble breaks the kingpin. Thats just my "theory"
So far no issues, I'll keep riding them!
@@ZackDowdy nice.
I’m not sure why you’re saying the kingpin was an issue on the ledge. It looks like you just missed getting into it completely and slipped out. Kingpin isn’t going to help you lock in if you don’t get into the trick to begin with.
8:00 wax the FUCK outta the wheelbite spots i ride loose trucks and man its absolutely godsend.
They only make them in tiny little skinny 8.5" axle or smaller. 😢
6:00 the trucks are only just put together so they don't fall apart. "out of the factory" comparisons/impressions are basically completely useless on how stiff they are. You should know that.
hi
I watched all the reviews of these trucks from all the other UA-camrs and all ended up tightening them right away....even after in the beginning of the video they'd said they're not going to tighten them to let the bushings break in.
I'd like to see someone actually review them....AFTER...they let the bushings break in for a couple of sessions.
Replacement kingpins cost $1. Ride whatever trucks you want.
If you like tight trucks and your kingpin is too long, then grind it off with a grinder so you don't hang up
Thunderin Trukit ovat Niitä Parhaimpia.
rebranded grindkings?
Minilogo and Bullet trucks❤
Radical. 😂 I’m surprised you don’t skate KRUX and Royals also. lol
didnt guy mariano like get these his 10 15 years ago. lol
This "Zach" guy can skate, i see why Thunder sent him some trucks.
Slappy inverted > Indy or Thunder inverted.
Those wheel wells look kinda atrocious
It ain’t about the looks anymore. It’s pure function and anti-gold digger
