    I was skating 8.5's for a long time and just for giggles I ended up picking up your 8" slick vx deck and I love it. I went from hockey-style nose shapes to the taper so it was kinda crazy at first but I think I'm sold on the 8 to 8-1/8 width. The biggest thing I noticed was the wheel base and the length. Your board helped me realize I've been skating way too long of wheelbase for years. Its funny we're sort of on the opposite journey with boards haha

    This video is the reason i skate egg shapes. Ive always loved the early 90s skating, but up from 2000 until about 4 years ago i only skated standard popsicle shapes. I love the eggs because they are super wide but retain a short wheel base . Mine is a 9.0 inch but since it tapers at the wheels , where you flick is about 8.75 , the width making it easy to catch and the shape making it easier to flip, all with a short wheelbase is heaven. Sorry , stoned rant

    8.25 is goated, I can finally get one of your boards, I been wanting to try a twin for a minute. Fun fact: Reynolds skated 8” trucks on an 8.25 board for years, because independent didn’t come out with their 8.25 equivalent (144mm) until a handful of years back. They jumped from 8-8.5 up until then! He always had a 8.5 setup as well for certain things.

    • @soundsbitter
      @soundsbitter 5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah skated 147 thunder raws with the green clear bushings on an 8.25 for a while growing up. Now I gotta have 8.25s on a 8.25 deck. But sometimes I would use 8.3 width deck with 8.25 trucks. I kinda like my decks a tiny bit wider than my trucks .

    • @demon_3x
      @demon_3x 5 місяців тому +2

      @@soundsbitter yeah I always rode Indy’s myself so before 144mm from them, I always had 139 on a 8.25 board because that was the norm if you rode Indy’s, you either went bigger or smaller than the deck in those times. I've been riding an 8 & a quarter board for years Ive been on the 148 thunders for maybe 2 years the trucks are good but I think they would be better suited for an 8.3 you can still see youre wheels for crooked grinds etc but the leverage point sits better for how i set my trucks and wheels up two washers against my hanger then bearings so my hanger is alittle wider and my axel bolts sit flush with the axel so i usually dont even swap out my bolts until i replace my wheels and bearings 👍🏽💯

    Best trucks on the market. I did the same thing in upsizing a couple yrs ago. .25 deck first with 8 trucks then eventually synced the trucks. Got the Suciu ultra lights. But man best decision ever with that wide glide ass feeling I love it. Now I'm up to 8.38 with the .25 trucks and figure I'm home now cause 8.5 id want to snyc again and 8.5 trucks just seems huge. It took some self realization and some convincing that I'm not the most tech flip tricky guy anyway and didn't need 8 after I'd grown up on 7.6s and 7.75s . to each their own, but I grew up skating independent trucks, so thunders suck to me. I've tried two pairs and both are sitting in the garage. I watched a video with that professor Shultz I believe his name was, he was on the Nine Club reviewing people's board setup. He showed major differences and what these differences provide. According to him, thunders don't pop as high, grind, or slide as well as Independent, Ventures, Ace, or Slappy. The face of thunders is more up and down pushing the wheels further forward, which doesn't provide a clean lock-in or slide. The ledge isn't sliding against the base of the truck, also this makes the true wheelbase longer which gives you a less responsive turn. The other brands I mentioned provide a taller ride, which allows your nose to get to a higher point before the front foot slides it forward and brings the back up; creating a higher ollie. They also provide shorter wheel bases, from truck to truck you still are 14" but because of the geometry of the taller more slanted back truck provides a shorter wheelbase from wheel to wheel. This gives you the feel of riding 14" WB but your truck can turn faster because of the geometry of them.
    Up until I heard all that from him, I was switching bushings, using riser pads, changing wheel size, deck shape, etc etc, and no matter what I couldn't get the right feeling and ride I was looking for. Bought a set of 8.25 Slappys, I bought them because the geometry was the exact same as Independent trucks, and they offered a Hollow inverted Kingpin with hollow axles. The regular kingpins had just a couple mm less in grind clearance, but were still higher than Independents; Kinda like how ventures are. I LOVE DELUXE and its why I kept trying to push it with the thunders, I only skate deluxe brand decks. I can't even tell you the last time I skated anything other than a REAL, AntiHero, or Krooked.

    Dawg I'm doing the opposite rn I skated bigger boards for years and realized I did it because a lot of people who influenced me skated bigger boards now I'm dropping down to an 8 and I'm loving it but crooks are feeling weird with smaller trucks

    Also, Prod skates an 8.25 with a 14in wheelbase. I tried an Primitive 8.25 with 14in wheelbase. It felt similar to skating an 8in board. The wider truck does make the board flip a lil slower. But skating a lil faster made up for it. The shorter wheelbase makes a big difference, making the transition to a bigger setup more seemless.

    Tom you are so fun to watch dude. You have the illest steez. When you hit that little three piece with the nollie heel nose, kick flip frontside tail slide, and then backside tail slide backside flip out, I nutted a little in my pants 😭
    Keep the YT videos coming my guy! I’m glad the new setup is working for you so far. You could keep the wider board and go back to your old wheel base.

    My suggestion is to go back to stock thunder bottoms and tops…that bones is way too soft That’s why it’s so loose and the ace top is much shorter than the stock bottom thunder so it’s throwing off the stock geometry.

      nah they feel great now, and i have a hard time getting used to thunder bushings. ive been skating this same bushing set up for a while now just takes a few mins for the bushings to come around...then they feel great! THANKS for watching!

    Size 11.5 shoes. I can't fit into 11's and the difference is like a precise .4inches more than 11 inches. Which is insane. So, I have always skated 149 since 148s were around when I upgraded. I wanna try and fit into these and 11s and see how bad it hurts to skate that.

    7:25 you skate the standard 148 now, which are 2mm taller than your last trucks, but maybe it's the bushings height why you don't feel any difference
