Thanks mate, I do try to use correct terminology for things where I can. It's difficult sometimes as different parts of the world have different terms for things too. My pet hate is "cotter pins". In Australia they are split pins lol 😂
@@HarpersShed haha yeh ....you know what erks me the WORST? ......... pommies calling motor scooters "MOPEDS"......... Im sure you know what an actual "moped" is so I wont explain it.
Loving this mate. I just got myself a 95 zxr250 and am an episode behind you in terms or progress. Stripping down mine now and cleaning everything up before trying to get her running. Keen for ep 3! Keep it up 👍🏻
Nice one mate, good to hear that another zxr will be saved and put back on the road. I'm in the process of sorting parts now so it may be a few weeks till the next zxr episode unfortunately. I will be doing my best to get it happy as quick as possible though.
That's a bummer about breaking the engine down Tim, but on the bright side you now know the engine will be strong enough for the fun times ahead be safe mate, see you next week
It's a bitter sweet sort of deal. Sux I had to do it but as you said it means I can build it up better to handle the abuse it will get once on the road.
I know its probably to late but on number 4 piston slip the rings off and measure the ring gap in the bore and see if the ring gap is in spec, that will give you an idea of the bore condition. As the bores them selves look shiny and that you can smell petrol in the oil im wondering if the bores have been damaged because of to much fuel in the past, hence the sooty plugs ar the beginning. As you will probably know to much fuel will damage the bores and rings. With the mileage and from what i saw id be inclined to rebore the engine and also check the carbs out as someone might of upjetted them to high and to finish off by balancing the carbs for smoother running and response. This is taking me back many years for when i worked on my zxr750 h1 which i found some photos of the other day and our bikes could have been twins from 50 yards 😅. Its a shame i cant send you a pic so you could see. Anyway cracking post as alway young man. Gary 🇬🇧 🇬🇧
Thanks mate, I didn't actually check the ring gaps in the bore yet. I have a suspicion that the bores are just glazed up and also worn out from fuel contamination and just the life it's had. Also I don't really have any choice to just hone and ring it as I can't seem to find any oversized pistons for it at all.
@@HarpersShed there is a company in the US that supply a 2mm over size kit for the 2008 on zxr 250 which happens to have the same size bore and stroke as you're engine but not cheap 744.80 Australian Dollars. For now I'd go with you, new rings and hone it but definitely balance the cabs.
@@garyashdown5376 yeah that's a lot of coin. I would be interested to see the gudgeon pin height and size for the ones you mentioned. What company supplies them?
@@HarpersShed forget it, my fault after checking it's a two cylinder engine same name different market good old Kawasaki but you're not a very common bike outside you're neck of the woods. Sorry to get your hopes up but I'll keep an eye out for you.
if you ever move onto a NBC 110 postie, holler, love to see you working on that... reason being, not to many videos out there explain how or why they do things like you do. Frank, catchya first week in december hopefully
Thanks Frank, I have worked on a few 110 postie bikes and owned one for a while. I found them to be bloody horrible bikes for anything but riding slowly and delivering the mail 😂
Another great video, mate. I have no idea how you have time for both channels or all the projects you have going at once... maybe it's time to bring in an assistant 😂😂
Thanks mate, let's say that I don't have a great deal of "spare" time. I hate sitting still so if I have nothing going on then I go out to the shed and get some work done. I have a whiteboard at my desk that I use to plan out all my projects and time frames for videos for each channel. I have only just started using the whiteboard but so far I'm finding it very helpful for keeping me on track 👍
dunno what Kawasaki parts prices are like... but I run a 1981 GL1100 & 1997 Valkyrie & parts (even used) are horrendous! Looking forward to all your builds... ;-)
I have found Kawasaki to be reasonable with prices over here. The 2nd hand market is another thing though. Sometimes you can pick up a bargain but mostly people want silly money for crap parts.
Hi mate, some time ago I actually split the channel into two. This channel is for all my other projects. If you search Harper's boat shed you will find the 2nd channel that is 100% boat and boating related content. Hope this helps and if you feel like undoing the thumbs down it would help me out but that is up to you. Cheers and hope to see you on the other channel soon. Tim
Its So pleasant to hear someone using the proper term "gudgeon pins". For some reason no one uses that term anymore.
