One of my elementary school teachers used to make us leave a shoe at her desk when we borrowed a pencil so we wouldn’t leave without returning it 😂

I wish we had an early dismissal!!! We have an extended school day (8-3:30) and the last round of buses (7 rounds of 8 buses at our charter) normally leaves at 4:20 (earliest I leave). They did not call an early dismissal! The last bus arrived on our campus at 6:45!! Luckily, they let me go at 5:30 since I only had one kid left, but the roads were awful and it took people 1-3 hours to get home. Luckily, that was our last day until January!!! We earned it!

I totally think they should have a teacher jeopardy and you should be a contestant! I am in college for my elementary education degree and your vlogs make me so excited to finish school. I have learned so much from your channel, and I feel like all of your advice will make me a better educator! Thank you so much! I️ hope you have a great last week of school and a wonderful winter break! ❤️

Yes. I hare when my eyes burn in the middle of the day. It drives me CRAZY! We left 1 hour early on Wednesday (Michigan) we had a late start and school started 10:05 and then we got out an hour early 1:33 so we had a very short day!

If your students are still struggling you can try the stair step method, where the smaller units are at the bottom and the larger units are at the top. Each time you move a step you either multiply or divide by a factor of 10. It works with high school freshmen

By the way...I do the same thing! I type up notes for my students to have them glue in their interactive notebooks. They are slow at writing notes too. This method just helps them have it instantly in their notebooks. I totally agree with you.

I love numberock videos! I just used the one about lines and another about angles over the past 2 weeks for my 4th grade computer classes. I always tell them the videos can help them remember during tests, or homework since it's in their heads and no one can take that away from them. They really like the hip hop, rap type songs. There is a really good one about PEMDAS also. Glad your post observation went so well. I had mine last week and it went great too! Glad that's behind me for a while. I hope you put all the math journal notes you produced on your TPT site. Those look great! Have a great week. I only have a day and a half before our Christmas break. Break is only a few hours away now!! ;-)

In our school students (like me) use black erase markers and the teacher uses any colors. But if we go up and write on the board we can use any color.

I remember the days we were required to wear a skirt that covered the knees and sometimes below and a shirt with a formal jacket covering! We were never allowed to wear jeans! I do miss the old standards but I must move along with the changing times. My classroom at Western Heights and Hagerstown High school both had large bulky projectors and "fishes" which were the nickname for the document cameras on sturdy yet space taking carts. I also recall the days we hit children with paddles which I was totally against meanwhile my coworkers were all for it which was idiotic! I also remember when we had everything on chalkboards and there was always a classroom that was "modern" for the time which was equipped with white projection screens & a Bogen Intercom, I do recall the days we did bomb drills instead of the horrifying lockdown drills! I remember showing the kiddos videos of Bert/Burt the turtle and taking my emergency evacuation folder out during fire drills while wearing heels in slippery grass! Unfortunately my classroom was in the center of other classrooms which meant you had to walk through a classroom and sometimes another classroom to reach mine so during a fire drill it was pretty chaotic! I remember my first school lockdown which occurred in 1971 at Salem Elementary when someone walked on campus with a shotgun and the little ole guard noticed so we decided to put the new lockdown strategy to the test and see how well it worked! Our custodians cut the power to the entire school so my emergency lights went out in my classroom but since my classroom was within another classroom we kept teaching but quietly! During the time schools didn't really have windows due to the impending fear of terrorists or bombs dropping from the sky or active shooters which were very rare!

I tutor and home school for 4 families and when I make study guides/references for their spiral books if they use their highlighters they get a bonus! This helps me check in if the 3rd and 4th graders are using the guides. Another way to encourage use is to have the students use a check mark on the page for each time they referenced their helping pages.

You have to keep in mind where she is. In that part of the country, many of the kids won't have super heavy winter gear to protect in the cold. They will have a good coat probably. Most though won't even have anything for their heads/ears/fingers or anything more on their feet than just a pair of sneakers. Even when I lived a little further north than where she is, the school district policy was still no one went out if it was below 40F (32F is freezing) because kids still only wore sneakers, but we would have heavier coats and usually gloves and hats.

    • @pinkkkmelodyyy
      @pinkkkmelodyyy 7 років тому +1

You're right. However, even in the Midwest, where we get plenty of cold weather, our kids don't go out if it's below 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Now, that's ridiculous to me since I grew up here and we never stayed inside when it was "too cold" for recess, but that's how people operate, I guess. Parents actually call the school all mad when it's "too cold" to send them out. REALLY?!!?! It's twenty minutes, parents!

I really love your vlogs! It is very interesting to see whay teaching is like in the US. I live in Bonaire, and we always have to plan a week in advance. We have to give all our lessonplans for the week to our principal on monday. She checks it and signs it so that she knows that you did your planning for the week, just in case you get sick and a sub can come in and continue the lessons

Hi, I'm a senior in high school right now and I'm in the process of choosing a college because I want to become a math teacher in middle school or high school. And I know you're a fourth grade teacher, but I just love watching your videos so much because they give such good insight as to what being a teacher is like! I honestly love watching them so much! And you seem like such a good and organized teacher and I hope to be just like you when I become a teacher! And next year in college, if I feel stressed and just not up for my work, I'm gonna watch a video of your's to hopefully motivate me again and to remind me that that's why I'm in college! So I just wanted to say thank you for making these videos because I just find them sooo interesting!

I wish we had the potential of snow days. I live in Saskatoon in central Canada and our students get an indoor recess if it is -27 C or colder. I have only had one snow day in my entire career 10 years ago (my first ever teaching job) and we had a record breaking blizzard. Our school busses do not run if it is -40 C with the windchill, but we as teachers still have to go to work! I am definitely jealous of your snow days. I used this when teaching measurement conversions: big to small (put hands straight out for BIG; bring your hands in by your chest in a "x" for SMALL; you made a multiplication sign with your hands so you multiply). Small to big (hands in front of your chest for SMALL; hands straight out for BIG; your body looks like a division symbol now so you divide!) I'll try to link pictures that better explain!

If you go back to the metric unit for review you can use
    KHDUDCM
    K King kilo
    H Henry hecto
    D doesn't deca
U usually unit (meter liter gram)
    D drink deci
    C chocolate centi
    M milk milli
I know that at least for me considering I'm a 6th grader last year this helped me to memorize it.
PS for everything past the unit move the decimal one space to the left, and for everything behind the unit move the decimal one space to the right
