- This is a small tribute to the much loved singer and Bharat Ratna awardee, Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar.
- Although I suppose many, perhaps most, among us would have identified whence several elements of the song originate, for those who may not know and would like to, here are some of the details (it would be better to read these *after* hearing the song):
- The song makes reference to Lata didi's career starting (in 1949) just as young independent India took off on its own (1947).
- One has used some words from a few of Lata didi's much liked and well known songs, 'Nainon mein badra chhaye', 'Tu jahan jahan chalega mera saya sath hoga' (both lyr. Raja Mehdi Ali, comp. Madan Mohan), 'Ghayal hiraniya main ban-ban dolun' (lyr. Sahir Ludhianvi comp. S. D. Burman), 'Rasik balma, haye, dil kyun lagaya tose' (lyr. Hasrat Jaipuri, comp. Shankar-Jaikishan), 'Syam bina jiyado murjhave' from 'Kenu sang khelun Holi?' (lyr. Sant Meerabai comp. Hridayanath Mangeshkar).
- The interludes use the tune of another Lata-Hridayanath combo, 'Tum Asha Vishwas Humare, Tum Dharti Akash Humare' while the concluding line 'Bado yeh vardaan' uses the tune of the concluding line of every antara of 'Baiyyan na dharo' (lyr. Majrooh Sultanpuri, comp. Madan Mohan).
- The tune of the line 'tum ne jawaan mulk ko gunguna sahaj hi...' is taken from the tune of 'mookapanane tami lopti' from the poem Anaam Veera, also sung by Didi, tuned by Vasant Prabhu and written by Marathi poet Kusumagraj.
- The line 'Kanth se tumhare Bhaskar ko suna' can be interpreted different ways. I wrote it to mean Bhaskar Ramchandra Tambe aka Bha. Ra. Tambe, the famous Marathi poet, many of whose poems Didi has sung. However, upon reflection, someone could well imagine it to mean her rendition of songs in matutinal ragas like Lalat or Bhatiyar.
