The way he slashes the enemies and jump over the roof of a building is full of the exaggerated swagger of a Japanese Ninja.
There are no Ninjas in Japan, it is an American invention. But Shinobi come close to it. Most of it is fiction though.
You know a Ninja? And what else would a Ninja be, besides Japanese?

The nes one is one of the hardest games I've ever beaten beating that without getting hit seems impossible especially when the enemies respond instantly

What psychopath would even want to subject themselves to such a torturous feat?

Just beating the game on normal was one of the hardest feats for me that I am still proud I did not give up on.

It's pretty weird looking actually.
Ninja Gaiden 2 was the first time I experienced true aggressive enemies in a 3D action game, in most other games they tend to wait around too much, but here they even gang up and combo you like crazy.
That's why I love Sifu especially on the harder difficulties. Enemies will straight up jump you in that game.
I played ninja gaiden 3 and the regular enemies were just going at me like crazed animals like i know they are supposed to be terrorists but jeez your legs missing how can you still attack like THAT!
I call that the 'Arkham effect', or alternatively, the 'Creed Effect'. We endured that BS for too many years. I can't play those games, I can only watch a bit and go 'bro, how are you not noticing that the enemies are basically waiting in line for you'. WHY were those games so popular? Seriously, gamers need to hold games to a higher standard than that, so bad gameplay like that doesn't become a trend.
@ Yeah as much as i love the old assassins crees games their combat was just counter attack then takedown by pressing Y and so on. Meanwhile Ninja gaiden you are getting jumped by 7 guys at the same time.
This takes me back. That wide-angle third-person shot brings back a lot of memories.
Prince of persia, GOW, DMC, the action games man.
Some of the best games to ever exist man. I loved the ability to time inputs and combo various buttons to style on enemies. Hopefully we get a new dmc game soon too haha
action games...now theres a genre that needs reviving.

Games before the souls series were brutal in a different way. Miss action games like this 😭
They're still making the NIoh games.
@@va_str Nioh is a soulslike though, and not as brutal as Ninja Gaiden on master ninja
@@MahoganyBlack me too
@ It plays a lot more like NG than the slow, clunky no-combo Souls games. It's also made by the same people, so you can just as well call it an NG-like. Yea, it's easier, but frankly the most brutal thing about NG is the camera, and how especially the Doppelgangers abuse being off-screen against you.
Nioh is like a middle ground of the two. I think it’s far more complex than either. There’s a LOT you need to pay attention to beyond just damage.
this game is so intense on Master Ninja Difficulty, took me a really long time to beat it. Beat it with every weapon, had 100k kills with the True Dragon Sword, 20k Izuna Drops, 20k Ultimate Techniques on Sigma version alone, had at least 5 times that number on the OG 360 version. One of the coolest games ever made.
OG had many more enemies so the numbers add up.
You're a certified Sigma for beating the hardest difficulty. What did it cost you?
@TopG-Cobra-69 nothing but some time and patience...Mentor Difficulty was a huge hurdle, once I beat that, I'd say the first 4 or 5 chapters/missions were the hardest for Master Ninja, onece I got some weapon upgrades and more hp, it became a bit more forgiving.
@@Rashed1255 yeah sigma actually kept track of those stats, that's how I got those numbers, had at least 10k kills with every weapon as well. I say I had 5 times those numbers on the original 360 version because I played it way more, and for a much longer period of time. Being extremely conservative with those numbers, probably way higher to be honest.
Yeah the first one was better I think, the level design was way more fun and exiting to explore. 2 you just literally move forward, you don’t need to use any brain power.
I remember playing this in 2010 and winning every trophy in 2011. This game was both difficult and very enjoyable. I love the franchise and the gameplay. Ryu Hayabusa is one of my favorite characters ever.

Now Asmongold understands why Hack and Slash has to make a return over the Soulslike games.
To be fair, this isn't the best example of a good hack and slash.
As a genre hack and slashes are still around. The reason you don't see them making massive waves is because for whatever reason, people prefer the less chaotic leanings of soulslikes. I say for whatever reason but I know exactly why, they are less demanding to play.
Souls like is significantly better than mindless hack and slash
@@Chanshilla Wtf are you smoking, ninja gaiden is a classic. It’s also the hardest one out there.
Dynasty warriors origins. Best hack and slash I think I've ever played. Or best in an extremely long time.
Kids today just don't know how badass Ninja Gaiden was back on the NES.
The opening scenes were on another level for the time and the music was epic kids these day wouldn’t last one stage on the OG ninja gaiden
idk how controversial this is but I played the NES games back in the day and they were awesome but Ninja Gaiden Black is better.
And absolutely brutal
New NG games are much better, but OG NES games are a classic. I was able to beat some stages when i was a kid, but that was a real challenge.
This game is cool but its an insult to the Ninja Gaiden games on the NES. It's like trying to turn Contra into an FPS game.
Pretty amazing how quickly he adapts to somewhat properly playing this game. Most streamers don't seem to be able to do that. They're trying to play it like Dark Souls or something and when it doesn't work then rather than adjusting... they just complain. Even folks who grew up with old games don't even seem to have a basic understanding of hack & slash action games, nor do they seem to understand the concept of automatically attacking in the direction of the closest enemy (while still being able to attack in other directions when you press them). They just keep getting hung up on not having lock-on.
That's what I'm saying. Criticiszing a games controls most of the time is subjective. People only say it feels rough and janky, when they're expecting it to go how they are used to. All the more, they can't see a wider perspective on how to adapt to controls , if they just generally just suck. So what do they do? Blame the game insteqd of finding out why it isn't working lmao
Meanwhile while I'm playing Dark Souls, I don't think I've ever uses lock on, just feel better that way
@@emchou3 Depends on what aspect of controls you criticize. Sigma 2 can have a be a bit iffy in responsiveness and Black 2 can feel sluggish with certain controllers (Xbox Series X controller with this game seems to miss inputs, but not other controllers).
That aside, for most part it's a matter of skill and learning mechanics. You can't dodge at every moment or block at every moment, enemies have tools to hit you. Even reckless dodging will result in an enemy taking advantage of your recovery frames. And the camera in NG2 is usually underrated. It should be treated as a combat control tool. It can give you a proper view of the combat, but it also influences enemy behavior. Using the camera optimally is basically the difference between scrubs and pros in NG1 and NG2.
That said many of these things are kinda advanced, but if you pay attention while playing the games and make an effort to learn, you'll notice these things before long and start to try to take advantage of these tools and mechanics to do better.
@@lichylickyrick8864 I do use it in Dark Souls, but selectively. Not using it gives a lot more freedom in attacking direction and makes it a lot easier to keep track of your environment
The West is the land of FPS and RPGs, and is not good at action games.
That is why the West has created games such as GOW, Batman Arkham, Assassin's Creed, etc., which are cinematic, narrative, and easy to understand by arranging them into simple action games. (Kind of like how Dragon Quest was born from a Japanese adaptation of a Western CPRG).
Not surprised he doesn't understand that this game was hard before people talked about souls games, the playstyle you develope with the game is satisfying, rewards brutal quick efficiency and never staying in one place rather than purely stylish combos or waiting your for your turn to attack.
Yup. I beat this game as a kid well before dark souls, but the souls formula has been so popular these days I need to relearn how to be good at ninja gaiden lol

@@TrestonDodd Yes it is
Great to see Ninja Gaiden making a comeback, it's a great series.
Souls games really spoil your combat, every time you attack, then you develop a habit of waiting to check the mobs, to see if they telegraph their next move. When the combat is spontaneous, this souls habit really punishes you.
i love souls games, but them being soo popular has made pretty much every action game copy there combat, and honestly i feel there combat is so restrictive , and has one style. older action games, and afew newer ones like nioh have a more open style where it gives you more freedom to fight how you want to fight, and not rely on having to learn a dance move fight. its refreshing and creates more options for flashy combat.
You just have to approach everything with maximum level of aggressiveness in NG. Its no secret.
There are some latest game that which increases your skills further and makes Ninja Gaiden 2 feel easy although i can't say it's easy enough depending on your talent. Mastering Nioh 2 dodging, stamina management and counter make you a better action game player. In Nioh 2 DLC you fight some Ninja Gaiden characters and their speed and variety of advantage are improved a lot.
Well ng2 isn't anything like a souls game. Ngb would be the perfect example of being similar to one. Ngb, you pick off enemies at a time, slowly but surely with blocking then attacking. Ng2, you have to always be moving, get timings down when you should be moving utilizing i-frames, be blocking most if not all times to not get hit from IS splash damage or to be ready for a counter. etc. Well that's vanilla tho. Ng2b is much more forgiving imo than sigma 2 and vanilla 2.
well if u cannot adapt or just played those games before .. i mean u are just dumb at this point

Best way to fight bosses in this game is to be fast and aggressive. You can cancel out of combo strings, so react to enemies' attacks with block, parry, or dodge while hitting them and don't let up your attacks after that.
Plus, a lot of bosses have tiny windows to safely do damage, so passively hanging back like playing a souls game isn't really optimal.
You can't cancel out of combo strings. You can end them early, but you cannot cancel them. Most moves don't have much of a recovery period so if you see an attack coming there's often enough time to stop attacking and block and/or dodge, but you cannot cancel them (well maybe a few frames are canceled if you hold block, but I'm not entirely sure. Definitely not much, if any though).
@@thenonexistinghero I used a wrong word then. But yes, that's exactly what I meant. Point is, it's almost like a cancel out of your attacks since each move is so fast you don't have to hang and parry or dodge like you do in souls games.
Beating Ninja Gaiden 1 on the OG Xbox has to be one of my most memorable gaming achivements. I beat 2 and felt it was far more forgiving and easier than 1.

The Male Fantasy
Bodies flying, blood fountains, blades clashing, the obliteration executions, oh how I miss this series. I think Asmon had a religious experience upon doing his first ultimate technique lol. Also there are no bad weapons in Ninja Gaiden 2 (respect the talons).
And Team Ninja didn’t put back in the puzzles and left out a Sigma 2 boss. Of course they found a way to spike the football again🙄
They have to go easy on this generation so that they can ease them into playing the old games and wanting to play NG4. Unfortunately, most people get turned off by difficulty and puzzles. I'm just glad we're getting more NG games
@ If this generation can handle Dark Souls and Elden Ring then they can handle Ninja Gaiden. And NG2’s puzzles especially aren’t that difficult even compared to the first game’s.
I do miss the adventure aspect of NG1. Looks like NG4 is incorporating more of that though.
@ I hope so. I appreciate the first Devil May Cry for similar reasons. Fighting all these dope enemies was great, but there was a satisfaction to solving the puzzles in between that rounded it all out for me in both OG NG Black and NG2. And seeing all the husks of what used to obviously be puzzle segments be watered down into glorified window dressing in Sigma 2 just hurt my soul😭
If you don’t want this series to die again PLEASE support it. Buy it on any platform you have, Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, your Switch 1 lol

its interesting watching him play an old game like its new. For how old it is, and how little they changed the core gameplay asmon seemed to really enjoy it. It stands the test of time, and really shows how damn good this game was back in the day. It's also interesting how he feels the weapons feel the same ext, yet the game has a huge skill ceiling if you take it all the way up to master ninja, each weapon is better at different situations and some combs flat out change the game.
2 is a great game, though it’s super easy compared to 1 on the original Xbox!!
Team Ninja made it easier because a bunch of crybabies complained “it’s too difficult”
You can just button mash on 2 and you’ll clear almost all enemies, the real skill comes in using the Izuna drops, flying swallows and super charge attacks (by absorbing orbs from defeated enemies to have Ryu charge instantly)

And the claw's amazing at fighting crowds if you know how to use it. Both of these weapons work well in any situation against every single boss.
A lot of them weren't even born when original 2 came out
I only played through NG2 once on Hard (back on the 360), and the thing I remember most is fighting most crowds using the claws, with its version of Flying Swallow going immediately into Izuna Drop.. So I'd flying dash to a target, swipe once, Izuna Drop, dash to another target, Izuna Drop, repeat.. And I mostly used the Lunar on bosses. Ninja Gaiden Black is the game that made me love warstaves.
I remember playing this back in the day, took me 919 deaths to clear it on master ninja lol. Such a banger
it's kinda funny how asmon's eyebrow synchronised with his attacks like its a hit confirm
That's because his eyebrows are the ones playing the game not him.
Wait, enemies can damage you ? That's crazy.
At times I genuinely feel bad for the enemies while playing this game that is how brutal it looks now
Love how the game has you getting curb stomped the moment you gain controls to get you thinking on your feet. Great reactions, Sir.
Falcon's Talons is where you get the Dead or Alive animations, since they are more hand-and-feet moves. The camera is the reason I never beat Ninja Gaiden 2.
He was actually way better at it than I thought he would be 👀
He definetly watched a guide before playing
ryu IS that mf, reminds you that badass dudes still exist in video games
Before I played this game, I was a boy, after I beat it, I became a MAN!
If no one said it yet here’s a tip, you kill a few week enemies first and when the yellow orbs float, charge the weapon and the yellow orbs charge it immediately. The higher the weapon upgrade the crazier the charge moves get
Im so happy you played this game gives me so mamy memories playing it on the xbox.
Honestly If Asmon having issues with this game I don't blame him. Ninja Gaiden 2 is a brutal game. Even for people like me who could bead devil may cry games on DMD mode.
He's having issues with the absolute basics though, not difficult enemies/fights. He has the spacial awareness of a potato, and input timing of a 90 year old man with palsy.
@@taylon5200 and he keeps trying to force a souls playstyle lol
Cut him some slack, the guy isn't used to using a controller so his muscle memory for the buttons needs to be trained
You're too close to the skill floor(literally just started so understandable) to notice differences between the weapons bc the weapons have some abilities that are universally aplicable, so it becomes unnecessary to expirment. This is a problem thats exclusive to ngs2 amd ngb2
Normal mode for a NG game should be ball bustingly hard and said normal playthrough should only be a tutorial if its following tomonobu itagakis design.
But ng 2 sigma and ng2 black are way too easy
TRUE, all NG2 versions are not itagakis NG, literally different game
yeah its true, but i think its a fair take for someone whos only played as little as he has. Thats teh great thing about the game though, the more you play it the more you realize how deep the mechanics go. Team ninja are masters at this, the same applies to nioh series.
@ronuss yea I guess I might have been a bit harsh but my main goal was to share one of the main philosophies of the game(challange and a game that puts a shit ton of effort in the higher difficulties to the point that the real game becomes more apparent the higher the difficulty), and clear up some questions like weapon variety.
True. Everyone starts from somewhere though. If I had never found and played Ninja Gaiden Sigma, I would not have looked for Black and original 2 and played those.
Never seen this game before, the graphics look phenomenal
Its new though they remade this
It's a remake of Ninja Gaiden II from 2008. It's easier than the original since the OG had insane amounts of enemies. This game is still very good though
@@mrdeathbyzombies3704ninja gaiden black and Ninja gaiden black 2 are hardest one's right unlike sigma versions.
I was really confused as to why you're playing this until you mentioned it was a remake. Good game, I remember it released the exact same day as Disturbed's Indestructible album. I was a huge Disturbed and Ninja Gaiden fan, so I was playing this game with the album playing at the same time for hours every day.
Did he ever figure out how to skip the charge on the ultimates? Takes the combat to a whole new level
The original NG2 is vastly superior to this remake.
How?? Because I'm playing this one currently and totally disagree.
17:43 there's 7 Dragon Balls... LMFFFAAAOOO
But there is 8 super dragon balls from the dragon ball super.
@zakota14 No... There's 7 in every single piece of Manga from 80's to the 2020's in Dragon Ball... with the Earth, Planet Namek and the Super Balls in Universe 6 and 7. Have ZERO clue what you got 8 from. 👍
@@zakota14Super is cheaply made non canon trash. No one cares.
I remember those characters in Studio FOW's 3D animations
This was absolutely one of my favorite games back in the day. When I was 16 I remember playing this on the Xbox Official Magazine demo disc and was so hyped. My mamaw was poor and she bought me the original NG2 on 360 and never bought a game for me before. I was stunned and it's still one of my most memorable game purchases next to God Of War 3 midnight release and my dad letting me stay up late to play it and I wake up the next morning realizing he let me skip school. I love FromSoftware/soulslike-style games and I feel like a lot of OG Ninja Gaiden players do too. I noticed Ongbal and souls players playing it so I feel like it scratches that itch with us players in regards to bosses, enemy types, difficulty, weapons, etc.
I remember watching my dad play NG1 on the original Xbox. He loved how the worst weapon in the game (wooden sword) could be the best if fully upgraded. He was obsessed with using it to beat the game on the hardest difficulty. He doesn’t play video games anymore :/
God damn yall are insufferable yapping on about the difficulty.
"Dark Souls" has done irreparable damage to the gaming community
@@cartoonvideos5 nah, NG fans were like this 20 years ago too
@c.l.8213 They are people that never grew out of "edgy teen phase"
this game is ABSOLUTE CINEMA
Never thought he played this wild
He played this wild
When using the staff rotate the left stick 360 right before you charge the attack and you’ll get a different, better charged attack. Also, Izuana drop is the best move in the game against the enemies that are vulnerable to it, it’s a one combo kill every time, even has potential to kill more guys if you land on top of them.
One thing I learned in the first game was to just always hold the block button 😆😆 I'm pretty sure you could attack out of blocking.
a TMNT game like this would be dope!
this combat style of game is called Hack and slash
DMC, (original)
god of war, bayonetta, ninja gaiden, etc.
Miss hack and slash gow was so fire @@legendaryoutcast4440
Keep dreaming 🤣. All they can do is fumble that franchise. They can't comprehend pretty much the entire fanbase are adults now.
@@michaelhuegel4146Batman is still a thing and that was from the 60s.
@@legendaryoutcast4440No it isn't.
1:26 AC shadows if it was good
They nerfed sonia by about 2 cup sizes
I knew it, Genshin was the evil in gaming
The game feels like old Prince of Persia & God Of War, instantly made me wanna play it
Back on the NES, Ninja Gaiden level 6-2 was pretty tough.
real Ninja Gaiden fan right here
The whole Ninja Gaiden NES trilogy is fcking awesome.
Wait, Asmongold is actually playing a game?
Ninja Gaiden for me only the original trilogy on NES
Oh man, this brings back memories. I remember playing the Ninja Gaiden demo disk on the original XBOX over and over again as a kid until I was able to afford the full game.
"We have the woman" This is the end of woke. As a woman, I'm very happy to see hot women in games again and badass men! Thank you!
