It is rare that a card routine would evoke such emotions. I have witnessed people crying watching this routine, right at the end. That's why Copperfield is in a class all his own. ♥
His card handling isn't the most impressive, but he executes his movements elegantly. One thing that makes this version so great is that he "vanishes" the Aces as opposed to them changing to another card. If you look at it from an effect standpoint it makes more sense than most other versions.
Exactly! I’ve never understood why you’d change an ace (or court card - whatever you’re using) when you could just vanish them. In some effects, that’s not an option. But in this routine with one of a magician’s best friends (that we can buy at drug stores and supermarkets), you can create the illusion that the aces “vanish.” I love this routine. I still perform it to this day.
so many videos posted called "grandpa aces" as referring this performance but NONE of those comes even close to this one because no one can perform that load behind the ace of spades so elegantly. When I didn't know better I always thought David was just a showman and stage magician... (we all know that there's a difference between close up and stage) but seeing this trick confirms he's the real deal
The load doesn't even matter. The emotional connection, the music, then timing... this is pure, beautiful theater, not just a trick. *That's* why it's special.
That's because there is no load. The video is pre-recorded, it's not his live execution. The load is made by someone else when the ace of space is out of frame (which is almost the entire performance).
@@CristianKirk sorry but no.. that is a live performance... i seen this particular show twice when it was touring.. and both times were shown the cameraman to be live the entire time.
Such an elegant routine. I love performing it to this day. The hardest part to learn and make LOOK good and effortless (at least for me) are the ace productions. It’s a very old production that predates David Copperfield, but it takes opts of practice and is very gnacky - which means once you’ve got it, you’ve got it forever due to the time you’ll spend learning it. The rest isn’t as difficult as some laymen may think. But props to whoever designed this (probably Chris Kenner) and thank you for inspiring me to take my closeup magic to the next level ❤️ 🪄
ethrez When he brings the ace of spades and the rest of the deck together at 1:50, he’s “loading” three aces behind the ace of spades. In other words, he’s hiding the three other spades behind the ace of spades to prepare for the finish and give the impression that he teleported them from the other piles. The fluidity and naturalness of his movement/sleight at 1:50 is incredible.
The old Elmsley shuffle. Classic. David Copperfield did this trick live and called it “grandpas aces”. He used Angelo Badalamenti’s “Love Theme” from the movie soundtrack “Cousins”. An incredible performance of a great showman. m.ua-cam.com/video/Sk4sRBn39NI/v-deo.html
how come you perform this trick in front of audience without any mistakes? i mean everything is smooth AF, many youtube version maybe using same method but not even close to david's performance.

So elegant, esthetic and smooth moves! Stunning! Huge amount of time to get that level, he’s simply the best!
this is amazing dawid copperfield is the best magician in the word
Even knowing how this is done, and with the advantageous camera angle has using, you still have to admire his skill and balls of steel...
How is it done please?
@@matthewtonna1 You really wanna know?
magic is all about the performance, that's the real "magic" and the charm
@@matthewtonna1there’s double sided tape he uses to stick the aces to the other cards
what about 1:51
All the vanishes are so beautifully executed. The pacing is immaculate. The hand movements are so perfect.

This is the greatest card illusion that I have ever seen to this day.
Grandpa:WONDERFUL,DAVID!

"Because I was 10 this took me months to master..." I'm 30 and I still can't get that load behind the ace of spades even close.
Gotta work on that Pinky count

any thoughts on 1:51 ? i have a couple of my own but still unsure
Thank you KSM
Before Shin Lim there was David Copperfield!
I've seen many noble attempts at recreating this performance, but if you can't do the load @ 1:50, then you're missing why this was so brilliant.
Michael Giampietro absolutely. The smallest detail about that performance is stunning
Can you explain?

Dina Ralte Kawlni Not anywhere close to that skillfully.
Deck has three extra aces and uses double stick tape. Well done performance. That’s the hard part.
I grew up watching David Copperfield and now I am a rapping sleight of hand comedy magician!
Amazing
Beauty beauty beauty
Love it

Just one complaint-- the cards with the ace change ?!😋
What’s the name of the move used at 2:27?
I think it is a Herman pass
unicooooooo
He has abnormally long hands
Thats what makes him the best.
That might explain how he hooked up with Claudia Schiffer.
Double lifts and duplicates, but with how amazing he made a simple truck looks just makes him the greatest.
