The bottom end will definitely take 750. Much more than that would be cast iron block and upgraded crank bearings n pistons. Killer ute tho bud. Clean as. Almost sleeper spec. Very nice.

Lots of comments below about driving a V8 on P's so I will share my experience doing the same (XR6 TURBO but same law)
Experience, which is in Vic (Melbourne) as well is as follows:
1. Got my L's at 16 and bought and drive a manual VT S (rare as fuck, only 1% {1per100} of the S models were manual and I managed to find a black S with km's so I was stoked.
2. As I was absolutely in love with Xr6 Turbo's from the year they first came out in 2002, I worked hard and saved up over the following 2 years and a week after turning 18 (I passed my P's test in the morning on my birthday) brought a secondhand blueprint auto XR6TURBO. I was well aware of the law's and for the first couple of weeks thought about removing the red TURBO badge on the boot under the XR6 logo, so only the intercooler from a sharp eye at the front would give it away. I decided not to though as I just liked it too much being on. Continued to drive this well into my mid 20's. During this time I had countless times Police were behind me. Never had any issues at all, and this included two notable situations. (next)
3. Driving during the day on the main beach road in Rosebud/Rye which is on the east side of Port Phillip Bay (the morning peninsular) which was a 60 zone, I was stuck behind a car towing a caravan for some time that was doing 50-55 so when it was safe to do so I put my blinker on and overtook it. It was a single lane each way so as I typically did, enjoyed instances like this where it gave me an excuse to floor it and enjoy a quick squirt. At this stage I only had a C.A.I, exhaust and flash tuned the boost from factory 6psi to 10psi so it would have been around 235-245rwkw as factory they are 195-200rwkw/240kw flywheel. I happened to do this right passed a marked police 4wd that was parked doing laser speed checking up the road hidden behind a tree shortly after I saw flashing lights in my review and the Police pulled in front of the car towing the caravan, so I pulled over. Was polite with the copper who had clocked me at 88kmph in a 60 zone and being 25+kmph over the limit it should have been an instant 3-month license loss, however I believe due to not being an ass and as well asking questions such as what I did for work and mentioning it was a nice car to drive on my P's (clearly wondering if I worked hard or perhaps was due to some other less legitimate means) ended up writing the ticket at 81kmph so I didn't lose my license but still copped the 3 points and the fine. No mention of the turbo or turbo laws.
4. During the last year on my P's coming back from a holiday in a country town many hours away from Melbourne with some friends, during a stretch of long country road decided to floor it for some fun as it was around 330rwkw then and I often didn't get much chance to enjoy that power on the road living in the suburbs. It was a 110kmph road so i floored it and the box dropped from 4th back to 2nd gear and i ran second and third gears to the redline (very quick timewise with that much power) it shot up and I wasn't looking at the speed but probably just topped 170. A few weeks later the cops came to my door and a mobile speed camera clocked me at 169kmph and they really wanted to go all out and charged me with reckless driving as well as the 60kmph over the limit. I wanted to fight the reckless driving charge and luckily on court day the prosecution dropped the charge, and I only received a 6-month license loss and a fine. All of this - at no time was the fact my car a TURBO mentioned or cared about.
5. I can't remember what year but sometime in the middle of my Probationary license holding time, at night I accidently went through a red light (One of those ones where you are stopped at a red light and in the turning lane and the lights going ahead tune green but the arrow for turning stays red. A HWY patrol unit (I remember from St Kilda station he mentioned) pulled me over from behind and asked me why I went through the red light, and I said I honestly had not even realized especially it and as always was polite and basically spoke in a manner was accepting that what I had done was wrong and it was an accident. I was very surprised when he ended up just giving me a verbal warning to be more careful. Again, even this HWY patrol copper didn't mention the turbo.
I have no doubt that there a probably many people who have been done for that law, however, it never caused me any issues.

I don't actually see a reason not to run cats or even high flows. You just do less mufflers if you want it louder. Power loss isn't really a problem at this power level. I mean yeah if it was a stock LS1.. I have hi flows and I don't even like them just don't want to pay for new stock.

Tough v8 maloo... but doesn't stand a chance against a well looked after and even slightly modified xr6 turbo. Sounds better when you do em up like this but the only win against the xr6 turbo is the sound..
