I have made pin cushions using 00 or 000 stainless steel wool. This keeps the pins sharp....pin cushions can be stuffed with crushed nut shells you can order from ebay in bags.

Marty Nelson where can you buy the stainless steel wool and is the 000 better than the 00 to use ? I love this idea . I just wasn’t sure if the cushion was deep enough . I worried about the needle tip up against the metal lid ; any thought ? It is beautiful and takes something old and gives it a brand new look .

I think it would have been so much easier to cut the fabric out in a circle first instead of snipping it after it's been sewn with the running stitch. Just saying :)
