Intro to China ATV Electronics, a basic overview,

Hey there, I appreciate your reputation when identifying the wiring components. Very helpful video. I have purchased a 2023 lifan 125cc, 4 speed, manual clutch, kickstart engine. (Usually used on dirtbike applications. However I have installed this engine into the coolster 3125-x8 ATV Frame. Bolted right up. My problems are unfortunately not have the appropriate open space for the downward kick to start the engine. Unless I remove the rear "passenger " side tire. Ultimately I could not get the brand new engine to run. I have spent over 6 months taking my time with this build in my living room most of the winter. I am confident in the exact wiring as youve demonstrated and explained here in this video. Anyway, took it out to the driveway. Giver a go. Nothing. No spark is essentially the big issue. But I am certain I have installed all new components. That came with the engine when purchased. Engine, Carborator, Coil, Plug, CDI and ignition. Used a killswitch from Autozone. Was still new. And even wired it up to a light I have to be certain my kill switch was good to use. I am also confident in my ability to fabricate/ revamp the wiring prosses. Im very meticulous and precise with all conections, pins being in there intended shape to make good connection between the two inside of the CDI connector plug. Made every grounding location bare metal free of any and all contaminats. Linked Frame,Engine,Case cover with new wires to join as one big ole ground linked back to the new little battery as well. Why would this brand new system not have spark. I even did what you mentioned being your first step. Rewired for having only the required three wires to run. And nothing. Factory parts being defective? Damaged?

Been watching, followed step by step, now with my quad, it would fire up then stop then back fire, run really bad, then not go at all, long story short i cut the cdi casing off, and resoldered all the joints and copper track, it now runs fine, it was also very wet inside. i think water gets in from the pins where the plug fits in.

i am having trouble with my wiring. if i jump my solenoid my atv operates just fine. Otherwise i have no electronics up front such as starter button and also my kill switches are not working.

wen we have red & black , in the 4 plug .! & the question. is dose that go to the coil. as out or is it in , Or dos it go to in, the tow pin plug as in line from coil . or cud it be in & out to coil . third time I have asked. Can you help Les England . ? [I would like to make it happy . les it a bit of a mystery it been cut up a bit. [ I think the red black in the 4 pin plug is to the coil]! could that be right ?. Double check that cdi, I just rewired a 110 atv wasn't getting spark either. Popped in the old cdi and had spark.

I tried about 2 years now to order multiple harnesses. I can't seem to get the ternsignals or a real harness for a lifan . When I first got it, everything worked on it, but I completely took it apart and we did all of it. Painting the frame and some things on the motor as well and as high the and as I began to take it apart, the harness came apart. Believe me, I've watched everyone of your videos and I know I'm not a fool.
But no wires ever match up correct color that I order. I find Myself chasing Down what they are by TESTING them out. And then by the time I get it all together. It doesn't run no spark period so it always ends up. The very same thing I'm agitated. Edit rip-off the new harness and go back to the basics of just a cd. I stater and coil runs perfect every time. I'm just disappointed I can't get everything on it to work

On mine the pulser has a green and white wire but but no green and white comes out the engine but u have 2 blue and white wires tried them both and nothing still no spark have you had anything similer.

So I have a kinroad racer 250 water cooler cart. I am having trouble with wiring. Sometimes I get a spark and other times I do not. I just picked up the cart about a week ago and do not really know anything about it. I took off the carb and cleaned that real well. I checked for spark and I had spark. I checked later for spark and no spark. I am scratching my head on this, and as seems to be the norm the wiring looks a mess and is a mystery to me. Any help on where I might get a wiring diagram or some other source that might steer me in the right direction.

Somthing else to keep in mind for the ignition spark is an ignition coil or any transformer can only step up AC voltage not DC so any voltage coming out of CDI to coil will be AC.jim

Also as a side how is DC going into the CDI made into AC well the DC goes through whats called a timer circuit inside the CDI box which is just a bunch of transistors on a chip that occilates the DC back and forth many times a second lets use 60 cycles as an example.as thats what our homes use this would now be AC to go to the ignition coil.jim

Hey Harvey, I’m a student in the UK and I’ve bought a 125cc Lifan electric start engine for a project. It has the whole wiring harness, CDI etc, but I don’t know how to connect some of the wiring. Specifically I don’t understand how the battery is connected and the fuse, and although I’m sure I’d figure it out, I’m sure you can understand why I’m reluctant to just “play around” with a brand new engine I need for work. Could you point me in the right direction? Love the videos

yamaha byou won't start using starter, turns over. starts hard but starts when using pull starter. coil? which one, where is it?

Hey Mike, My son's Lakota sometimes start easier with the recoil over the electric starter, especially if the battery is low or it is cold outside.... His will start if jumped with a strong car battery on the electric starter.... So, I'm thinking that U need a stronger battery or Ur starter is on the way out.... How do I turn off all of the engine off circuitry so I know all the safety switches aren't killing it. On my taotao I just noticed that the little black box on the left side in the very back is making a clicking sound over and over when I hooked a new battery to it. That has to be why it won't spark but will if I jump it at the starter. I just dont understand why it isnt getting spark after all the parts ive changed. Plz help bud ive been watching your videos over and over again but I can't find what to do

Hey Ethan!!! Ok, about the Tao Tao, it sounds like when that relay powers up, it shuts down the ignition.... So, if U direct power the starter, U have spark until the engine generates enough power to pick that relay and then U loose spark, sounds like U need to figure out Y that relay is being picked.... I hope this helps.... BTW, I always worry about getting them started first, they I worry about shutting them down, getting the starter working, getting the battery charging, and then the light.... Its hard to do everything at once... Thank for asking, watching, and commenting!!!

Harvey Spooner I had it running perfect before I spray ether in it and jump in from the starter it starts and shuts off. How do I figure out why that relay is being picked? And fyi after I change the CDI ignition module I believe is what it's called the little square with the one hole in the top the coil and the starter solenoid it's started to get a spark when I jump it from the battery but it was very weak and only every once in awhile

I meant a month ago it ran perfect lights kill switch and it even started charging a dead battery that was in it. Sorry had to clear that up now it starts on ether jumping it from the coil but shuts right back off.. I have 2 weeks in the taotao because it ran so good.

I left this message in another video. I got the spark coming from the battery with the new cod I bought for around 5 bucks. But the spark is only every 30 sec or so did I get a bad cdi? Have u gotten brand new cdis off of eBay that generate a bad spark? Do you recommend a performance cdi or stay with the same one but a better seller? I have worked on this thing for weeks the taotao ran fine turned it off went to start next day and wont start. But the quad still gets great spark when I jump it from the starter and will start up and shut back off with a loud bang pop.. Plz help sir.

Hi Harvey, i have a 2002 Yamaha 401 4x4. My problem is when i turn the switch on, then hit the starter button, i will always have spark for the 1st few revalutions, it does start, but of course dies because it looses the spark. It does the same thing, it doesn't matter how many times i try starting it. I have replaced the stator, pulsa coil, and rectifier. Do you think this maybe is caused by a bad CDI ??

Hey Lukemaan, Depends on the quad, if it is a 12VDC system, I start by checking voltages to the CDI unit, if an AC CDI system, I pull the CDI from its socket and I make the measurements described in the video.... It maybe as simple as a shorted on/off switch or an opened ground, U need to make some measurements..... Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!

Hey Harvey I am still working on my taotao 110b I Have changed the cylanoid the regulator key switch cdi and coil. Still no spark. It just quit one day I rode it rode fine parked it. Next day it wouldnt start it will turn over and over jumping it from the battery but has no spark. But if I jump it straight from the starter it has fire to the plug. I am completely stuck. And I also have a baja 50 I was told it ran. I cleaned the carb hooked a new battery to it and it dont do anything. But if I jump it from the starter it turns over. What could be wrong with that one. I have been working and working on them and cant figure them out. Please help i just need a start switch a kill switch and headlight. Plz plz plz help me

Harvey Spooner ok I have an extra one. Also I sprayed ether down the carb after I cleaned it the best of my ability it was bad.. But you can see through them except for the smaller longer one. It doesn't look like it has just a hole through it on either quad looks like it sprays out the sides at the bottom out of the holes around the bottom of the yet opposite the end u put the screw driver too.

Hey Harvey on the question before this I asked on the china quads my 110 and 50 I believe its the ideal jet not the big onr that has the smaller jet that screws on to it but the other jet thats skinny that screws in right beside it. Is that jet Suppost to have a hole straight through it too because mine dont U can see daylight but not straight through them like the other jets. Is that the way its Suppost to be because at the bottom I'm guessing the holes around the jet is where I can see daylight through it.I have a tool that has different size wire like pieces of metal and it wont go through those jets. Just trying to make sure I'm not crazy still having trouble with getting these things to have fire at the spark plug with the battery. They both obky have spark when you jump them from the starter.. How do I get rid of the electrical signal the safety mechanisms make to tell the engine not to fire but keep the headlights kill switch and start button.. I have these two quads that fire up on ether and jumping them from the coil but have no spark with the battery hooked up.

HELP ME ! i have the same engine . the whole ignition system is connected correctly but my starter wont turn over ( when installed ) but it works when i tested it . im thinking the flywheel is stuck .

Hey Jorge!!! Remove the inspection cap in the center of the stator cover, (I find that a big washer with vice grips turning counter clockwise, removes the cap), and beneath that cap, there should be the crank bolt, (14 or 17mm typically), try to rotate that clockwise to see if Ur engine is seized, rock it clockwise and counter clockwise to see if things free up, try some penetrating oil down the spark plug hole, let it sit for a day, to see if that frees things up, if it rotates and stops, don't force it, U may have jumped time and U don't want to bend a valve.... All I want to do is make sure I have the correct power/current going to the 4 pin pigtail. Also, how would I disable the kill switches on a 4 wire setup ? I don't have that 5th middle wire. Hey Samuel!! There are 2 circuits in play here, first the side that powers the starter.... Battery + side needs to be on one lug of the starting relay and the starter wire needs to go to the other lug of the starter relay. There should also be a wire or terminal left on the starter relay that powers the coil, that should go to one side of Ur starter button and the other side of Ur starter button should go to the + side of the battery... more on that drunken crank . fixed the fly wheel. it was a one degree taper , found a HT' bolt center drill the crank with very fine drill. do not use a center drill. to set the center ten drilled tap, for ten mill , then i machined a taper in the bolt & put a ten mill third on Both end's nit setting the Cylinder on top dad center having secured in the the up god &, tight I marked out the new positions for the wood-ruff key . & set it in the lath to cut. then returned it to the shaft & welded it in place once It was tightened it to its marks,, so the top dead Center marks align on the fly wheel , it had a slit wobble but not sufficient to interfere with the or the stating of the engine a slit tap on the fly wheel soon aliened the system . a trumpery fix until I can get a new mother . mat run with points in the future's , by fixing a, set of points to rear-place the stater is & pressing a ring with a cam lift on the inside of the flay wheal in the appropriate position i.e. lining up with timing marks . , but that for a Another day , stated the engine runs sweet 1,st august . 2021 now how to charge the battery when i have a DC CDI. . can it be run buy the rectifier as a ac stater, just to charge the Battery . 7 convert the ac to dc power . ?. nothing you can really do, unless you follow the wires that go from the ignition to the cdi, and somehow remove them, you cant do anything but get a new ignition

Wiring a 350 ATV Quad. And it’s gotten the best of me (close to nervous breakdown)
Simply can’t get a SPARK!,
5 wires from stator did all the connections in your video....but nothing
However....this engine has also THREE yellow wires and red and greenish colour wires coming from engine too!? leading to 4” x 4” metal box attached to frame.
See nothing of that on your videos
Would be great to see that too. Reached the point of “ my kingdom for a horse” with this issue.
Need some serious help and more than willing to pay if we can do this by video conferencing?.
