How did this movie never win a poll 😮 absolutely fire movie
Because this film is real bro , they establishment don't like real stories.
in fact, the film was nominated for and won awards. Even though nowadays the actors don't get the recognition they deserve here in Brazil, the film continues to be timeless in every detail.
The critics goes crazy in negative ways because the violence... they literally abandoned the theater in the middle of the movie. Some people are not ready
This film was nominated for an Oscar
Because it's true G
These kids are really favela residents. some of them became famous, some disappeared, others were arrested... but they were all part of a theater group in the favela. That makes this film so authentic. There is a film "City of God 10 Years Later" that shows the current reality of the actors.
Welcome to Brazil
One of the classic movies!! I was so shocked when I watched it for the first time
It’s crazy for sure!!
Sadly it's mostly true. And here in Brazil we got worst stories than this one. Crime here only went nuts after that time.
@@samuelbcst 😕
@@deving9793 Mike Tyson watched this movie, he said
Most films you forget, some you remember a joke or a scene. Even fewer movies you want to see again and again, even there's City Of God. A film so powerful that you see it once and it stays with you forever.
oh sí
This film is a true story.....in the post credits scenes it shows the real people in this story
Not all of it is legit. Some characters did exist in real life, but others are made up. For example, Rocket, the main character, is fictional.
@@delgranttbtw, does anyone know why did they change Buscapé's name for "Rocket" in the translation?
As a brazilian this movie is a social-horror story to me. I was fortunate enough to be born very far away from this kind of reality, but I know it's very close by, right around the corner. Hell, the number of favelas I can spot in the distance from my apartment is quite huge
Unfortunately, in Brazil, social inequality only increases, and politicians live in a bubble, they only remember the people on election day, as they need their votes. Once the election is over, they forget about the people. That's why it's important to always cancel. There is no one there in politics who cares about the people. Favelas will always increase and with it violence.
shitty playboy... you don't know the reality of Brazil and what's going on in Rio de Janeiro! lmao
The actor who played Knockout Ned (Seu Jorge) is also an insanely talented musician.
The soundtrack for The Life Aquatic is him playing David Bowie songs on a classical guitar and singing them in Portuguese.
Wow man, you dont from eua, is?
"you killed the coolest dude in the hood"
Benny was just that guy, even if he was besties with Lil Zé, he was still the best guy to have around, damn. RIP

This film is a modern day masterpiece. Great reaction! 👍🏿

It's definitely a surprise that this classic never won a poll. crazy.
Many said it was very unrealistic. These people know nothing about that time or what the country was going through.
I always recommend this movie to people. I first saw it 20 years ago with my classmates because our teacher recommended it. We all loved it.
This is real, bro... and still happens!! In 2009, drug dealers downed a police helicopter. The war in Rio de Janeiro always will exist and very far from the postal cards and the beautiful places visited by people all over the world. Please, watch Tropa de Elite I and II. Good vibes from Brazil, my friend!!
Always been waiting for you to react to this one! One of my favourites, as a teenager. This stuff ain't no joke.. I was in Rio around 15 years ago, on the first day I was robbed at knifepoint, saw guns being brandished in public, everyone doing coke and smoking weed and saw a gang of kids rob a tourist. Once you get over the crime, it's one of the most beautiful places, with some of the nicest people in the world
Everyone is forgetting the 2003 classic (at least to me) film Carandiru. It's about the prison that was later shut down. Brutal, raw, and also based on true events. If you can get your hands on it, it's a MUST WATCH!
Brasileiro burro trabalha pra sustentar vagabundo.
that part where he gets the amulet its some type of voodoo to protect the person. Brazilians call it "macumba" which was originally a percussion instrument of African roots but later used as pejorative term, since its related to Afro-brazilian religion that some people believe its similar to witchcraft.
Actually, it's not witchcraft. It's a common practice in Umbanda, to get the protection of the gods, Axé and Oxalá. We only call it "macumba" as a joke
There's a mini-series serving as a spiritual successor to this film, called "City of Men" directed by the same two people, and featuring many of the same actors - set in current times, featuring various little episodes in the Rio slums. It is much less violent, since it follows a kind of day-to-day format, with interesting things occuring.
The voodoo man told Lil ze don't fornicate wit the beads on or you'll die he forgot and thirsty wit knock Ned's girl that killed him wit da runtz leaf obeah alone
Fun fact, the actriss who plays Benny's girl, Angélica, was the same that appears in a movie called I'm Legend, with Will Smith, great movie, you really sould check-out...
And if liked this movie, another movies that you really sould check-out is Elite Squad I and II, they are even better...
Congratulations for your channel and saluts from Brazil...
Alice Braga who I believe is related to Sonia Braga if I'm not mistaken but don't quote me on that. But yeah it's definitely Alice Braga fa sho. 😊
Ela fez o filme o Predadores também e outros filmes! Ela e a sobrinha da Sonia Braga !
Woooow 😮😮😮 I had completely forgot that this movie even existed
I haven't seen this since I was about 14 like damn near 15 years ago lol
I am so so glad you reacted to it!
City of God is GOATED 🐐
im brazilian, i always cry in the end of this movie. this is a masterpiece. great review!!

Have you ever watched "elite squad"?
Another brazilian movie, it's brutal
Already on Patreon and will be coming on UA-cam
@@deving9793 elite squad 2 is also good. Did you recognize the benne's girl in this movie? She also work in "I am Legend" with will smith.
Brother, the film is based on real events, during the credits they show some excerpts from real interviews with the characters when they were arrested, it's worth watching the credits
Brazil mentioned!!!
I just love this movie ❤❤ it's so well done u know???
It's the kinda of thing u watch and say: that's cinema
One time when I was living in Brazil, the Taxi drive close to a ghetto (favela) I saw a little black kid sitting down playing with a grenade, like it was an orange, throwing it up and down. The AK-47 he was holding was about same height he was if he was to be standing up
I worked at a company that was located in a neighborhood next to Cidade de Deus. This place has always had a reputation as a dangerous place. Places that google street view does not enter.
Believe me. What is shown in this movie is what really happens in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This is not fictional. It's true.
Knockout Ned is an adaptation, because literally it would be "Chickenish Dude" (or smth like that, lol)
Dude, I don't know if you realize that this is a real story, with some actual video footage that went up on National TV in Brazil... and the newspaper boy is now one of the best Brazilian writers. He wrote the autobiographical book that became this movie.
The reality on this movie is responsible for the bad rap of Brazil as being the most unsafe country on earth
@@jorgeoliveira2383TBF, Rio is very unsafe most of the time.
@@jorgeoliveira2383 It literally is
One of the best movies of all time.
Great reaction man, I have seen some people watching this movie before, but you are very keen to detail. Most folks will lose one or two side quests (like the apartment story), but you were on point. Your only small flaw was the real footage during the credits. They really interviewed Knockout Ned (Mane Galinha) in real life. This is Brazil the real deal. By the way, if you want to go deeper in these kind of movies you will probably want to watch "Elite Squad" (1 & 2).
Yooo this my favorite movie of all time and u one of my favorite UA-camrs. Lets goooooo!
As a supermarket worker I thank you for your acknowledgement.
Lil Z is one of the most evil characters in a movie I've ever seen, the smile on his face when he's like 12 is crazy
THANKS SO MUCH FOR APRECIATE THIS BRAZILIAM MOVIE. ITs very hard even for us handle this movie cause this people called "outsiders" or "favela people" living like in another reality... like another country in the same country its crazy. Best react ever ure more stronger that us from brazil that lot of people never can handle this movie for so long haha

you should definitely watch both "tropa de elite" movies.
Good choice! I love this movie it's one of my top 5 next to natural born killers snatch and a clockwork orange
I remember watching this movie back in the day in a highschool class. It was a shoching movie for me
In nowday, in Brazil, the violence is ever worse. I know because I live here. Brazil is a country that counts more death than Countries in war.
glad you finally saw this yeah this movie is crazy! it will change you and crazy in the end how it basically just starts all over new gang of kids ... wild ride thanks for the content
1 of the best movies ever and true story and you got then entire move not just clips 👌👍👍💪for it not 2 win poll must be people who can't read or just don't know great reaction u get thumbs up
There are two movies you gotta watch "Ciudad de deus" (this one) and "Tropa de elite" The 2 best movies in all the brazilian movie history, that i know off. Great reaction, you truly know how to splice the vids so it keeps the coherence of the video. Good job bother
Ciudad? Or *CIDADE* ?
@@DukeWilliam21 I suppose in portuguese is cidade
Crazy movie and based on real life this is even more crazy
Another great from brasil is "tropa de elite"
The name of the film is City of God after a neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro.
this movie is a masterpiece
greetings from Brazil! 👏👏👏
One of the best movies ever made, not just in Brazil, but in general, and it's based on a true story. The worst part about the movie itself? Most of the actors, despite having done an incredible job here, are broke nowadays, they never achieved celebrity status despite deserving it.
You don't seem Brazilian to me because you're wrong... you should do more research before commenting on some shit.👍
One of the best movies ever
One thing I always think about when reactions to this film appear is that foreigners only have half of the total experience because of the language. The film is full of local slang and the subtitles cannot convey the same emotion. Things are smoother in english, even if they try to convey the same meaning.
This movie is based on true story bro. It happened here in brazil Rio de janeiro on the 70's
The film is true in nature... it tells about the journey of criminal complications that never ends and if you think it's an exaggeration it's because you've seen a lot of Disney, this is the real world and it's even worse... 😵💀🔥
25:33 (±) » "vapors" are kids spread on strategic points in the slums (with some fireworks) to warn the dealers when rival gangs or cops try to invade the dealer's area with those fireworks
It's sad that so many years after the release of this movie, which has become one of the most acclaimed of all time, people still have the sole choice of watching it with these dreadful/shit subtitles.
It's truly remarkable that so many people consider this to be the best movie of their lives, even though they've had only half of the experience.
Of course a person gonna use subtitles if we don't understand Portuguese wtf
@@brandonmcduffThis subtitle is very far from the original. That's what he meant. Terrible translation but u can still get the context. Which is fine I guess
@@brandonmcduffHe meant that what they say in the movie doesn’t line up with the complete translation in English. Mostly because Brazilian Portuguese is spoken with a lot of slang. For an example “você quer moleque” was just translated to “what do you want” but actually he said “what do you want kid”. It might not seem like a big deal, but it really takes the experience away from the language cause “moleque” is actually derogatory for a younger boy, well at least that’s what my mom told me cause we don’t live in Brazil anymore,I grew up in the states since I was 6. I’m not saying you need to go out and learn the language and it’s slang, all I am saying it’s hard to translate languages like Portuguese or Spanish completely because of slang, but even without slang it can still be a little difficult to translate. The same example for Mexican Spanish, they mostly speak with complete slang,at least that’s my opinion.
@@Bumbumbr-zu5gc yeah I see i didn't realize that at first
The child actor who play the little boy who get shot in the feet today is a mall segurity guard, he says in an interview the casting coach was a savage, she wants the emotion to be the most real as posible. Also he say she was an abusive bitch.
There's a mini documentary attached to this movie you should check out.
Brooo this is my favorite movie of all time watched when I was like 12 so freaking good
I am brazilian and I you really need watch " Tropa de Elite " is by far the best film made in Brazil...
You need.make a react of this!

For a min a i thought you was steve harvey . Love your reactions steve 😁
The nickname Knockout Ned in original portuguese (Mané Galinha) could be translated as Dumb Chicken in english
Amazing film brother. This film should’ve won the first poll you threw it on no lie
You ought to watch Carandiru. City of God, Elite Squad and Carandiru are three essential films if you want a glance at the causes of Brazil's gang violence (which has much more to do with the state security apparatus than with the favela population)
Salve!
Boa tarde!
Parabéns pelo seu trabalho!
Fica com Deus!
São Paulo-Brazil
Now........Elite Squad 👍
One of the best movies ever made, no question. There's also a quasi-sequel from the same director called City of Men, which is a little more modern about 2 friend caught on opposite sides of an urban war. And if you like THAT, check out Tae-Guk-GI, which is a film about the Korean was with a similar plot to City of Men. City of Men isn't nearly as good as City of God, but it's still great.
this may be based on a real story, but it's also commentary on world politics and the gears of war. remember the name of the arms dealer? Lil' Z just died because he fucked him up, the weapons came straight from the police (of the world).
Welcome to Brazil

this movie never won a poll cuz is a brazilian movie. Unfortunately the brazilian cinema it's not respected as it deserves worldwide. Brazil have a lot of good movies. Go check it out. Rio de Janeiro don't represent all the states of brazil. We have a lot of kind of people, climates and culture. And to be clear, we don't speak spanish and we are americans too.

Gotta do “beast of no nation” I’m telling you fam believe me
DAMN bro i still cant believe you havent seen the best Denzel movie (American Gangster)!!!! Much love DG
Your next Brazilian movie should be "Carandiru" based on a true story too and pretty much raw like this one
Some places in Brazil it's even worst then that. But most places don't have that violence.
Never heard of this movie, definitely gonna have to watch it! If you haven’t already, I’d recommend watching Shottas. It’s a wild ass movie as well.
