Increase Your Immersion In DCS: World with VoiceAttack and VIACOM PRO 2.5!

- Using VoiceAttack with the Plugin VIACOM PRO really ups your immersion in DCS World by allowing you to use your voice to talk to the AI over your coms rather than using the clunky F-Key menus to issue orders to wingman, contact ATC or AWACS.
It can be a little frustrating to start out but I HIGHLY recommend VIACOM and VoiceAttack for any DCS World users, especially those that play in VR.
READ THE MANUAL and you wont get nearly as frustrated as I did to start out... Here are the links to the product websites!

I loved watching DCS on UA-cam but when I started playing myself a year ago I was at a huge disadvantage because I have very limited use of my left hand. Voice Attack leveled out the playing field. I use it for everything from controlling flaps to the complete startup of the Mi-8 (took days to set up the Mighty 8). You can use the same profile for the 27, 33 and Migs (generally). I still suck but it's made DCS playable.
PS, you need to spend at least 3-4 hours training Speech Recognition in Windows as VA uses that to recognize your commands. Seriously, this is extremely important!
you will get better, just give it some time
Bet you don't suck that much.... 😁
That's awesome man!
I used this in Elite D a lot.... Most people don't realise how much difference it makes when you go through the windows speech recognition setup a few times. Once the computer knows your voice it's hard to do without it. I imagine that saying the cmds also helps with radio discipline for when playing in a wing with other players.
I highly recommend this! Especially for VR users.
BelGeode certainly!
I have voice attack, but what does the additional plug in actually do then?
@@bruswain9158 Allows you to communicate with AI without the Fmenu. Also enables you to communicate with jester without the menu as well. essentially it comes with about 900 keywords that are put into Voice Attack. Basically it replaces the menu based system with keywords that you say
@@bruswain9158 you basically unbind your radios in DCS and bind them through Voice Attack to VAICOMs TX nodes. All communication is then handled outside of DCS through VAICOM
@@bruswain9158 It has one node for each type of radios DCS aircraft come with, VHF, UHF, VHF FM, AUTO, INTERCOM, and AUX, with options to set one key to handle all or in aircraft with only one mic switch allows you to seperate into multi radios if you wish. Also supports using the ingame dial to switch between radios
Hey man, I will try this program thanks to your video. And, nice flying out there!
Rodrigo Barbosa awesome I’m glad you liked the video! And thanks for the compliment!
I'm with you on externals. I've seen these planes from the outside all my life
Great video reaching. For my keyboard behind my stick is always clunky and now that’s gone. You’ve got yourself a new subscriber
Jason Klein awesome! I’m glad I could help improve your experience!
Is it possible to disable pilot's voice, so the transmissions aren't doubled?
m4ti140 yes there is I had them on to show that the commands were in fact going through
m4ti140 qqqqqzzz
In the F5 you should balance out the fuel tanks and trim the aircraft with such a heavy load up to 10° on takeoff. Regarding the lau-3s I think it’s a bug in the Harrier. I might be wrong but the 68s should work ok.
I have to try Viacom again. Last time I tried I didn’t like it that much. I usually use it in Elite Dangerous for ship commands ands simple chat massages.
Jackalope I would definitely try it again I find it to be very useful especially in the heat of a dogfight or a run on a ground target.
Very well done and not only a good demo of the Voice Command feature but also some good demo of bombing in the F5.
Oh, BTW, it's pronounced Toh-Noh-Pah. :)
This is exactly what I’m looking for. This looks like an older video though, is this still the best one to download/use for the voice commands or is there a newer/better option out now? Thanks for the video!
Great review! I'm learning the f-5 little by little every day and this will be a welcome addition. Thank you 🤙
That is really nice! I'm totally installing that tomorrow! Nice video man, thanks for sharing!
Just stumbled upon your channel. Very good video and nice software, gonna check it out today. Keep up the good work! Subscribed!
what does "as always" mean? Is the alternative, "hey guys, I'm Spudknocker...well, sometimes I like to be called Gary." ;)
Sir, I gotta real quick question, what would you recommend? DCS Steam or Standalone? I'm in a bit of trouble so suggestion would be appreciated. Awesome channel!
Standalone 100%. You'll always have access to the newest stuff.
I’m gonna have to agree with the other commenter the standalone version is gonna be a lot better in terms of faster updates and faster access to new stuff!
Oh thank you for the nice suggestion Sir, may your channel grow and live long for the hearts of DCS fans :)
Syed Ali haha thanks!
I already purchased the Flaming Cliffs 3 and MiG 21 modules through steam... Did I fuck up?
Great vid, but could you do one for tomcat and Rio calls? Very new to DC's and I jumped into the deep end lol
Just got this thanks to this video! So far as a test run, all I’ve gotten it to do successfully is call Texaco to request refuel and tell him “ready precontact” which already saved me a few looks under the VR headset. So thanks!
If you use thrustmaster warthog or similar, what button do you map your push to talk to?
Do you need to map to each type of radio (uhf vhf etc) or is just mapping one button to Auto ok if I want the easy coms option only? (I’m pretty new to all of things DCS yet, and just trying to learn to fly at this point, but I fly real world)
Can you use this for internal things vs clicking a switch with the mouse? Something like “deploy drag chute” that you did on landing for example? If so, do you have to push to talk to get it to do those things internally like flipping switches, or can you just speak out loud and it will recognize?
Thanks again!
what about us using curved monitors! ;)
I used a curved Monitor!
There's a mod to remove player's pilot's voice, makes this even better.
got a link?
@@keysersoze1855 I'm sure you've found it by now, but here it is. forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=134767
I know this comment is late but can you easily turn off things like air traffic control communications for when you are playing online with real ATC
You need to train speech recognition in windows. My accent is awfull and my voice attack understand me very well.
do i need to buy voice attack for this or can I use viacom pro with the voice attack demo
Thx for the great vids, you have helped me so much to discover DCS. Are profiles available for download or do we have to make our own.
yes, they are @ forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=151296
Of course you get it working. I bought the full version of this and it doesnt work at all. Voice attack keeps shutting the mic off. Dont waste your money on this.
*Voice Attack NEEDS more Brian Blessed!!*
Or kermit.
do you HAVE to have VIACOM PRO 2.5 to make voice attack work and if not what does it do then? Oh and spudknocker the easiest way to convert C temp to F temp is to take C double it and add 30. Not exact but so close you or the plane wont know the difference. I am a real pilot and I learned this from my flight instructor. 35C +35C= 70 + 30= 100F ( closer to 95F) Try its easy.
Is this still the go to program for DCS voice talk in late 2019? Just getting into DCS btw.
Yes it is.
I find screaming at my KA50 therapeutic.
Gonna try my Viacom pro today. The F5 engine sounds like FM rather than the realistic samples used in more recent modules.
Your videos are awesome! Thx :)
Spud, quick question as i know you use the x56 like myself. when you setup viacom pro do you have it set to all 6 PTT or are you using just one? just asking cause i just got the pro version and i am not sure if i have mine setup correctly. right now i have it set to use the txt4 auto, but i swear i can never get it to select the airport i say. this is all in the F18c
F
2:40 starting the engine ... mmmhhhh, why is it not possible with the mouse to set the throttle to idle? Now I need to use special voice commands
Very good vid and good info ! Congrats !
You should join the GrimReapers, you would be a serious asset ... 😎👍
KurtBaeten3 gmail are they a virtual squadron? Do they have a website?
Spudknocker , hey, they are active on youtube under ‘ Grim Reapers ‘
It’s a squadron of mercenaries flying all sorts of missions. DCS in-house missions, but also own creations.
Very entertaining !

Hi I know its not related but how did you manage the Track IR to work that smoothly? Setting it is pain in the ass for me.

@@Spudknocker thanks dude, really appreciated
Spudknocker, the about he directional commands? It doesn't seem to work when you ask your wingmans to attack from a certain direction like northeast etc.
Have you ever tried to use this commands?
I am a purest, but i totally agree with you on the outside being great for cinematic purposes. As long as it's not during PVP online servers, but in those instances the server will disable that view anyways :) hell I am anti FC3 aircraft on pvp servers too :P. Can't wait for the f18c to come out! I also can't wait till they have a good dynamic campaign in DCS. then we can start doing servers like what Falcon Online does for falcon 4.0 BMS. I have flown many of those 20-30 day wars. it's super fun!
Coolcat/Powin well I think outside views are ok for co-op and I don’t think they really help all that much in PVP.
I certainly agree when it comes to FC3 aircraft though, but that’s why I’m excited for the Persian Gulf map as it gives us a way to have full fidelity modules on both sides while still being realistic with Iran having F-5’s F-4’s and F-14’s with a smattering or MiG-21’s
I’m a big into BMS as well and play the dynamic campaigns for various theatres all the time.
Unfortunately the upload speed of the god awful internet I have in my area won’t work with multiplayer in BMS. You need at least 1mbps upload speed to be allowed to participate in Falcon Online events. God knows I’ve tried. I get 0.6mbps Upload so it’s not even close.
Kills me...
DCS multiplayer has always worked great despite my speeds....but in BMS upload speeds are a huge deal apparently.
Any non-American/non-English people here that were able to get this to work? I spent 2 weeks training the thing but it still refuses to do what I say.
Tee Dee are you following the scripts of what you’re supposed to say as outlined in the manual for Viacom?
I'm saying it exactly. "Chief, turn on the ground power" comes out as "have two telegram power for". After two literal weeks of training Windows Speech Recognition, it just doesn't work.
I tested the Windows Speech Recognition by itself in Word and it's having the same issues. Honestly, Windows Speech Recognition is the biggest load of crap I've ever seen.
That one command seemed to be the most difficult one to get to work
The actual command is 'Ground Power On'.
@@teedee9393 You gotta spend at least 3-4 hours training Windows Speech Recognition as VA uses this to process your commands. Also, you can find profiles already set up online.
Awesome vid, thanks!
This program is called vaicom not viacom. I’m not sure if it had a name change, because I’m sure it used to be.
So I was already doing this without the plugin, issue I run into is when a server has more than 1 tanker or awacs and gci and the keys switch from f1 to f2 it messes up my command, does this solve that ? Also I have my landing gear and engine starts for fc3 on voice command will this plugin affect that ?
Code Codderson VIacom works directly through DCS world rather than linking key presses so it should fix those issues
Can you edit the vaicom profile to add other voice commands. For example, to select different armaments?
I need some guidance, I’m in the middle of spec a PC with VR to run DCS. I would like to get some advice as to what should I do first once I get DCS installed are there any suggestions with additional software to add. I’m looking into getting the thrustmaster HOG stick and throttle. Suggestions ?
TM 16000 combo was a good starting stick and throttle for me.
Voiceattack, Vaicom. SRS voice for multiplayer comms.
I thought that the Lau-3 launcher on the harrier using the FFAR rockets were inaccurate compared to the Hydra rockets as the Hydra rockets spin in flight for stabilization and the FFAR rockets do not. I just assumed they modeled an accuracy difference between the 2 rocket types. As far as the F5 goes, I think it's using the FFAR rockets and not the Hydras so, not sure there. Check out this wiki article en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydra_70
how did you set up the atc communication commands? the profiles i'm getting don't have them, and that's the main function i want to set up
Does he still have the option to disable the pilot commands from DCS. kind of ruins the immersion when you say a command and then hear it repeated again by DCS. All you really want to hear is your command and the reply from DCS
Yes that is still an option, I had that turned on simply to illustrate that the program was really interacting with the dcs world comm system
@@Spudknocker I understand he has more of a direct interface now than he did before. do you need to replace all the voice files for the pilot in DCS or does the system simply disable that part.
Nope, its all automatic!
@@Spudknocker so u can diable the pilots initial repeat of your command and don't have to replace all pilot voice files as s we did a year ago ? someone just made the all null empty files. so dcs did not repeat the cmd
how does he do it now.?
Very informative and helpful good video
Why does it sound like there are 2 pilots ?
I heard their was a fix for that !
I think there's a typo - is it VAICOM not VIACOM?
i tried to get it working but the Speech engine isnt working for me some ideas ?
Thanks for sharing!
Is the F-5 really sensitive on the stick? It seems when i make a turn it almost wants to snap roll. I adjusted my joystick but it still seems really twitchy.
I have been trying to get this to work, program works and recognizes my voice, but in dcs i have all the comm menu assignments in controls deleted and if i press any of my comm buttons set in voice attack it still opens the comm menu when i have it checked off to disable comm menu, so frustrating.
I would try it first with easy comms turned on, that helped me a lot starting off, you also have to make sure you're using the correct commands, really study the instruction manual and that will help!
Spudknocker yeah it automatically set easy comms on I don't know how to change it to off, and I see the voice attack window it registers in voice attack when I do a proper command and I get a beep but nothing happens in game, I did a bunch of ground crew commands and formation ones, and setting disable menu in Viacom doesn't disable them, gonna try a fresh install today of everything, thank you for your reply though, happy flying!
Regarding immersion. Say I ask 'Chief turn on ground air supply', what removes a bit of the immersion is that the virtual pilot voice then says "Chief request air ground supply'. You've already asked him to do this. Having a virtual pilot voice to then repeat your voice command seems a bit artificial. Is there a setting to cease that? I have purchased the full version. I've just not got round to setting it up yet.
yes you can disable the player voice. In the VAICOM menu, go to Preferences. Check the box Disable Player Voice.
Back at this after fours+ years. I had been using Teamspeak, is that still useful? This appears to do a similar/same thing
Great video, well done I was wondering if this software was a good idea and am convinced now. Thanks. BTW love the 'Nose Hole' comment LOL.
Steel Tribe haha well I mean it is a nose hole! Haha! And thanks for the support share it with anyone you might think will benefit from the video!
Do I need to purchase VoiceAttack paid versions to use this combo?
Is there a way to test to see if everything is working properly without launching DCS?
IM having issues getting the PTT part to work i cant figure out how to get it to work
Is it normal to fly with your flaps down for the entire flight?
HDaviator I’m unsure of what you’re referring to, my flaps are set to automatic mode in this video.
Having flaps set to “automatic” can cause the flaps to sometimes extend during lower speed flight
Dude ,,265knots your flaps & slats appear in T/O config??
How did you get the command 'chief connect ground air supply' to work? Because no matter how many times i try it doesnt wanna work for me
U need to go into speech setting and make windows understand what you're saying, i.e training mode. Widows will ask u to read out a bunch of sentences and learn from that. Also u can add words it's ge5ing wrong
Does it have to repeat everything you say or can that be turned off in options somewhere..this looks to be a cool program but repeating everything you say really breaks emersion
Totally agree. What's the point of "saying" the command if the game is just going to copy you.
do you still use this or was it not useful in the long run?
Question, so with VIACOM Pro do you need to actually go into VoiceAttack and create commands or does VIACOM do that for you?
So if using standard Oculas Rift headset I would need to connect an optional mic I assume? Thx 4 video
irishpat64 I can’t remember if the oculus has an integral mic, if it does then no mic needed if it doesn’t then yes you’ll need a mic
The rift has a built in mic. You CAN if you want use a regular headset mic, as it is easy enough to take the headphones off the rift.
Great!! Thank You
Oculus has a built in mike
Nice job bud Jack meov, after getting everything fully loaded took me 3 days thanks to your half ass expo but it was neat once i put in the "HOURS" it takes to get it to run for shit
richard short sorry you didn’t like it mate, did you train the voice recognition software before hand?
Hello Spudknocker how are you? How are you and your online pilots talking to each other, and what button commands are you guys using thanks.
Hey man we use SRS (Simple Radio) in my opinion it is certainly the best VOIP to use for DCS as it works with the cockpit radios in the jet. Check it out here! forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=169387
@@Spudknocker Ok will do but I have not been online yet, and do I have to set up a server to use this app? FYI your videos are the best my man.........................thanks.
Does this work in multiplayer? like combined with simple radio?
do you know the command for calling the air tanker??
I believe its *tanker callsign ie texaco* + *request rejoin* etc
thanks
Question: I've seen videos of pilots flying fighter jets and they always roll before a turn. Why is that?
Yank and bank.High performance jet aircraft don't make heavy use of the rudders mainly only pitch and roll axes.
@@JohnnyFaber I understand that part. I fly RC planes and that's what I mostly do. What I'm talking about is, I've watched cockpit views from air shows and I've noticed when they go into a turn, they don't just roll and turn, they do a full roll into the turn. Kind of hard to explain.
What head tracking are you using?
Whats the difference using only Voice Attack with a DCS profile than Viacom?
Yeah so that's like comparing a HOTAS to a gamepad.
Reminds me of End War
Man u graphics are so wicked whats the specs
what is name this place ?
Do you have to pay for this?
bill eisenhauer yes it is paid but both are only 9 bucks
Do you have a profile you would like to share
I would love to use Viacom Pro, but they only accept payment through PayPal. I highly recommend avoiding PayPal, from hard experience. There are free module specific downloads available for the aircraft you wish to fly, just do a search of the Eagle Dynamics forum or their download website. I only use VA for radio comms, Helios for everything else, great for immersion and not having to work my way through the comms menu, especially during AAR.
Do you use Track IR or it's VR?
Fli I use track ir
Can you please tell me how I get that cross hair up when in VR?
I dont use VR so I really couldn't explain that
Spudknocker so normally, how do get the cross hair to appear?
I am not sure what you're referring to... sorry
Spudknocker he cross that you use to operate switches in the cockpit.
That is enabled by default, but the aircraft has to be a full fidelity aircraft, Flaming Cliffs aircraft do not have clickable cockpits. You can turn off the mouse cockpit functionality to use the mouse to slew your first person view around the cockpit, but I have forgotten the key bindings for that
Using VR? what PC specs?
John Hoopes i7-7700K GTX 1080 16GB Ram on monitor not VR
Track IR then? Looked great.
Was the voice recognition software not understanding the upspeak?
NefariousKoel what do you mean by upspeak?
It's an accent or speech pattern called "High Rising Terminal".
NefariousKoel the issues seen in this video were DCS’s comm system not being ready for new inputs, it would have done the same thing using the F-Key menu
I see. I recalled having issues with the occasional word or two, using speech recognition long ago in Sub Command. Probably due to my mixed regional accent. Damn thing never did understand my number "four" in the first few tries. Always had to repeat myself 3+ times if a sentence contained it.
NefariousKoel that’s a bummer but I think my issues are mostly due to the comm system in DCS World proper, with a smaller amount of issues where I’m saying the command too fast
If you have to look at the keyboard..... I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but a command aint 1
Now, whats the reason you used the F5 jet?
Why didn't you post your profile? lol
I use VIACOM, there is no profile needed

hey Spudknocker,
you know in Viacom pro you have a menu where you are able to disable player voice? just want to tell you that because that is really more immursife... now you here a repeat of wat you say and if you disable player voice... everything is responce directly on your voice and there is no repeat of wat you just say.. like now you say recuest startup... the in game voice repeat that for you, and then there is responce... when disable player voice... and you recuest startup, you get a direct responce without repeat ;)
sorry for englisch

to get to that menu in voice attack it is the menu with ctrl alt c :)
