I am currently 14. I really enjoy doing mathematics and geometry, and I am very good at those subjects, as well as I am good in science. However, I am really terrible at drawing and I am not very good at design and technology. Can I still become an architect? The design is not that hard. But art is extremely hard. So, can I still become architect?
The bigger question is why do you want to become an architect? Focus on the profession and not what it takes to get into the field. Perhaps go to an architecture college and speak to students there. That will give you a better idea. If there is no college in your city, email the student counsellor of a college. They usually reply quickly. Good luck
I reckon you should try a few more science classes since I assume you're still in high school and high school tends to be filled with many opportunities and classes that will help you find your passion. I suggest starting off with a class such as marine biology or chemistry(although chem is a mandatory course in most schools anyway). Which type of science do you enjoy the most? Life science? Earth science? Chem? All three of these incorporate their good fill of mathematics along with science, which is why I suggest them. If you do figure that you really have a passion for one of those three, try finding a job branching off of that that seems intriguing to you. For example, if you find you like life science you can study anatomy of the human body if it interests you and essentially be a neurosurgeon, of course if you find that you like doing dissections and so fourth want to be one. That seems like your best option in my opinion :)
I love architecture, and frequently draw entire cities using perspective, and other artistic skills of mine. I enjoy looking at buildings and copying them after one look, and using this experience to make my own little creations. Unfortunately, I cannot grasp mathematics or physics. Though, I’m able to visualize space and measurements accurately.
Hey, I'm an 11 year old that gets all A's in every class for sixth grade. I would love to become an architect and I'm also good at drawing. My dad works in the construction business so I also have an idea about what is needed for something to be stable. Do you think I can do it? Please respond as soon as possible. Thanks!
Of course you can! But i think since you are only 11, you should also keep an open mind for other careers. The world is changing very dramatically with lots of new career choices. For example Artificial Intelligence is big at this point. It could lead to many new job opportunities. Then there is Virtual Reality, Driverless cars and the list goes on and on. Keep an open mind, be aware of what goes on in school and the world and you will be fine. Good luck.
Striker same I just got highest class for my new highschool last week im really happy I hope you reach your goal as well. First time going to highschool I'm really trying to get as good grades and degrees and hopefully go to uni.
Hi, I'm 15 years old and I love drawing, in fact i'm an artist. The problem is I do not love mathematics w/c is required in architecture. But i still want to be an architect. Can I still do it? I mean what can I do? thx! nc vid btw
Thanks for writing Angelo. Mathematics is a subject that many students fear but it is also such an important subject. Some subjects may diminish in value over time but this is not the case with Math. Math is also very broad, so you may for example not like Algebra, but love Geometry and be fantastic in solving problems. So my advice to you is to think why you do not like Math. Also speak to some architects and have a better understanding of the Math involved. Right now you are young. in a few years you may start loving Math or perhaps think of a another career choice. Good luck.
great video. I like the way it considers "both sides of the coin". I'm 16 years old and I would like to be an architect since I love buildings and cities, drawing and creating. I'm also good at maths. The thing is that I really struggle with physics and chemics, I don't even have these subjects at school anymore. How good do I have to be at sciences? Should I try and catch up with them outside of class or could I make it without unexceptional knowledge? or would it be a solution if I did Interior Design which seems to have less to do with sciences?
Thank you Sarah. We interviewed a few architects to get inputs for this video. Unfortunately, we do not have an architect in our group to do justice to your questions. But having being students once , we found it very useful to visit a nearby college e.g. architectural and get first hand inputs by talking to students. Most of them are very helpful. Alternatively identify a school of your choice and email/phone the student counselor. That usually does the trick. All the very best to you.
I really want to be an architect someday. But these things pops in my head that im not good at math or I can't draw well and what if I fail. My mom wants me to be a Teacher and I said I don't like to be one. When I was a kid I started dreaming of being an architect until now, im 15 and ive been into SketchUp, blender and some City Building games.
Hi dont worry about drawing skills you'll eventually learn it during long hours in studio. If you want to be an architect you must know if you're willing to sit at your table the whole day just to finish a project. It takes a lot of personality to not get bored. Architecture is more on application of research for planning & building designs. Great drawing skills are just supplementary you have computers for that. Good luck!
Please, is it hard being an architect? is it worthy to become one? im good in drawings but to sum up my experiences in math subjects since elementary to Senior high, im really bad at it, especially with lots of solutions!
I need to know everything about architect means after 10 which subject and so after choosing any field what we should do means I whant that someone should tell every thing about architect as a guide
I am 12 I am starting to become an architect but my buildings are like all the rest do you have any way that I could come up with new ideas for buildings
perhaps you can look at other buildings and find the one that suits you and you can add things to it to make it better. Or perhaps make one that reflects you and your interests.
Can someone tell me how i can become a architect in the future weather thats which class i should get my certs in im a 15 year old boy wanting to become a architect dont just say dont give up any help of how i could in the future as in where i can find a job

Hi Diki, Math is a very important subject especially if you wish to get into an engineering / architecture line. You say so do not like Math much. Perhaps you will start liking it slowly. My suggestion is to make an effort to do well in Math. Also speak to engineers and architects and find out more . Right now you are young but am happy that you are thinking about a career. All the best.
I am good in drawing i have passed 2nd puc with 70% in the year 2018 i want to join architecture and i don't write Nata exam but I write jee main and my jee marks is 50 are i can join the architecture please advise me
No. It's like saying, "Can I become an Olympian if I am bad at sports?" Two of the fundamental forms of architecture are math and physics, so why would you go for an area of study that mainly consists of what you're bad at? You've got in backwards: You're supposed to pick something you're GOOD at for a degree/career. What it practically means is that you are less likely to be successful. You can still try, although you're probably setting yourself up for failure. And as it stands, about half of architecture students drop out instead of completing their degree.
Hi I'm grade 11 in George tladi technical high school I need help,my stream is technical including technical science, technical maths, electrical technology and Engineering graphics and designs so I want to become an architact so advice me looking at my subjects.
A 5 year course in architecture will average out as £20,00 year, that's £100,000 in total, so basically, this field of carrier works as the world works, you have to have money to make money, ffs, I am interested in being an architect, but there's no way I will ever afford that
That's why you need to find ways to get loans and scholarships and maybe work a few years before going back to school to build up the money to pay for and afford it! Also you don't have to pay right away! Don't give up just yet!
i am a student already taking the IGCSE cambridge examinations , i am quit good in art as i have been told by many people since i draw this and that although i dont take my art as spectacular as a pro one , but i want to be an architect and i have been trying and asking people which subject do i need to take this course in university some say just math physics and ICT is this enogugh for me with a good drawing background , my question is is this true and correct is it only this 3 subjects i need in order to be accepted ?? Dont worry i took 8 subjects for the examination wish me luck .
Hi Roland, if possible talk to some architects or go to an architecture school and talk to teachers, students. That will give you a good idea.
