Aurora goes nordic folk style. With some "kulning" you call something else. Well it's not easy to know. The whole album is fire. Thank you for reacting to her again. Cheers from a finn in Sweden
Great reaction 😊 You are wrong about the style though. It's Norwegian folk, and some "Kulning" (ancient Scandinavian herding calls) and she's nailing it. She just releasted a new album. She's better than ever so worth checking out.
Greetings from Norway 🙂
I truly like this technique and wish to learn this singing. My heart lays in Norway ❤
@@Stoofke777 🙂👍Only one thing to do. Start to practice. It looks easy when Aurora does it, but it's very difficult. And Larry saying it would sound better with autotune... Aurora can't use it live. She sing with a lot of ornamentation and slides.
With the rapid runs of notes in folk music and Kulning, you actually have to sing off key sometimes to make it sound right. With autotune it would sound horrible.
The mandolin intro have a Asian or i might say a middle East vibe. Apart from that its more Irish Folk.
It sounds like Jethro Tull (Mother goose)is a good example.
In the end it's clasic Scandinavian Kulokk.
I dont think she use Auto tune though , a lot of reverb and effects
on the vocal yes.
Love from Norway ❤
@@Wurflenii888 Larry is an idiot.
@@rolfjamne8922 Heyy fellow Norwegian! It's a mandola not a mandolin, but yes I agree with Irish folk. Maybe a hint of middle East vibe too.
The singing is very similar to Celtic Folk, but the Norwegian/Nordic folk has more rapid runs of notes and Aurora is using that style. It's not easy to hear the difference though. lol
And nooo, she's not using auto tune in live sessions. It would sound horrific with all the ornamentation she always use. She also use a lot of emotional expression in her voice. Auto tune and her style would be a disaster. lol
Sending love right back at ya
Can't take my eyes off her. Hypnotic.
She's pretty amazing, isn't she!
Her VEVO live performances are the best!
I actually don't mind small "imperfections" on live recordings, although I have to say I didn't notice much here myself. Flawless performance in my opinion, and one of my favorites on her new album.
Larry just trying to sound smart and edgy. It doesn't. Makes him sound like an ass.
I Missed your aurora reactions, please more❤ maybe you can do a listening party for each of her albums 😊?
Thanks for doing this reaction Chris. I’ve missed Aurora on this channel.
I agree.....be well Rich😊
@@patriciajohnson9654 hi Patti! 🤗
@@richv.1594 hello there Rich! 👋 Hope you're having a great week! 😊
@@that_averagetyp Hi, hope you’re doing well.
The dramatic tension-- "the Grind" that she gets with just mandolin and a piano bass line is remarkable.
I loved your Aurora reactions when you were just 'feeling' her music, and not analyzing everything to death
Nice reaction, I love this song and performance. On the same day she also performed Some Type of Skin live for this Vevo session, she does some really awesome vocalizing at the end and she did a slip up where she was busy moving around and almost forgot she was supposed to come in on the keyboard, her voice does a tiny wobble at that point getting to the keyboard in time and then she mugs for the video camera, it is priceless. Thanks
It sure is priceless lol❤️❤️❤️
@@lillm6874 Right? Priceless because she is a real treasure beyond compare. 😀🥰❤

"Constrains of what she is able to do".
"This would sound better with autotune"
I think you have been listening to too much autotuned music. She sings perfectly here, it's pure and her voice is gorgeous. Autotune would have made it worse.
Autotune destroys everything Aurora stands for. She is pro emotion. Tuning totally destroys that.
you should also listen to the brian eno remix of this song, really. thanks for coming back to her music and please open the lyrics aside. "You speak of the devil like he's not your friend / When the world starts to burn, give the water to him!".
Hi Larry, always nice to see you back with Aurora👍😍
She’s never better with autotune, unless it’s on purpose😉
I love this song and performance, but Asian style?
This gives me Nordic folk/viking vibes😍😍
I highly recommend listening to the remix featuring NATURE, which she actually released a couple of months before she released the album.🦋🍀❤️
I really hope you will react to all the songs on the album🙏
I love all the 16 songs, but here’s my top 5:
“Dreams”
“Starvation” official video
“The Blade”
“Invisible wounds”
“The Essence”
I didn’t count the songs I’ve already listened to a lot since they were released😊
Great suggestions my dear friend. 😍😍
@@Oldperson-wt3ui 🥰🥰
Aurora just released her new album, "What happened to the heart", every track is great. Aurora is experimenting with new sounds. One track you should check out is the music video for "Starvation." Thanks.
Yesss, “Starvation” official video is a must watch😍🔥
This is a bit off topic, but how would you feel about reacting to music from a video game?
Baldur’s gate 3 won game of the year, beating out MANY competitors and famous companies. It won for its complex characters, amazing story, great gameplay, and beautiful soundtrack. In their acceptance speech, they say they wanted to fight against greedy companies that make people pay extra for parts of the game that should have been included in initial purchase, by delivering a spectacular experience for only the cost of the buying the game.
Some of the songs with vocals include:
- Raphael’s final act
- down by the river
- I want to live
They are all hauntingly beautiful, I would love to see your reaction to them :)
What we hear here is a nordic folk influence. As much as the Mandoline so as well the kind of Vocals she sings are traditional ways, celtic-ish!
Awesome performance but also the studio version of this song is completely incredible, you would probably also like other songs of the new album like The Dark Dresses Lightly, Starvation (which has a video) or My Body is Not Mine
Those kulning vocal flips are a Scandinavian folk style -- she certainly brings tribal elements to her music. Great stuff!
Not sure where you get the Tibetan influence, this is very Nordic influenced vocally. There's even Norwegian fiddle and other Nordic folk influences on the studio track.
The Brian Eno remix has a sitar-sounding drone. That could be where it comes from.
Honestly the sounds of both are pretty similar. Both use droning and various interesting influxes of vocal sounds.
Aurora was and is amazing. To be honest I don't hear imperfections gere. It is just hear stunning live performance. The song is also amazing. There are other two versions album version (and live performance was a different variant of this version) and remix (which actually was first before album release) connected with cool Sounds Right initiative. All versions are great for my ears :-)
Facts!
So happy to see you!
This felt haunting and primal to me, and I loved it!!!
And that piano riff was like gentle raindrops, so beautiful. I think she is the voice of Mother Nature 💚
Oh and her dress…. absolutely stunning…in my book anyways 💚
Take Care
🩶
I think so too!
this is so awesome, made me turn it up way to load in my headphones so your scratching your beard became ASMR.
Bout goshdarn time, Larry!
lol!
@@larryshair I'm going to see her in Chicago over Thanksgiving.
Saw her recently in an interview. She said (paraphrasing) that she never wants children but these songs and albums are like her children. She loves being in the studio and equated it to sex and touring to raising the child. Sometimes it's good and other times very challenging. She also said in the interview she has a death album. She sets aside one non released song from every album to be released after she dies.
You have to bear in mind that if Aurora does something, it is what she intended to do. Anything else and she'd re-do it until it was as intended.
This is a unique version, probably done just for this Vevo recording.
It is different to the album version, different to the remixed single version, different to the promotional live show version ...
Chris, this is one of my favs from her new album, "What matters to the Heart". So different from her other albums but, then again, what else do you expect from her but different.
She's actually said recently that when she passes on, an Album will be released of songs throughout her life that have not been heard ... Almost beautiful and yet sad... because I don't think I'll get to hear any of it.
If you haven't heard the original studio version of this song, I'd recommend it. I think this performance would make a lot more sense if you heard the original instrumentation. This entire album is mind blowing.
Enjoy the channel and your reactions...however may we please never speak of such blasphemy as auto-tuning Aurora again! ;) As others have mentioned she's just dropped a whole new album and a couple other videos (Some Type of Skin live VEVO and Starvation music video).
He never said she was being auto-tuned.
@@michaelgoetze2103 No he said "this would actually sound better WITH auto-tune". I was just joking around though...no worries.
I'd mention some Daiqing Tana/Jon and Vangelis-vibe. Mandoline bouzouki-style? "The Battle of Evermore=-vibe?
Hey man. First off take love and respect. I only discovered you 10 days ago but already went through the whole Eminem playlist. Your reactions are genuine and your interest to understand each song is why I love your reactions. I don't know if you're even gonna see this comment or not but if you do please please please react to So Far Away by Avenged Sevenfold. They are a heavy metal band but this song isn't metal heavy rather very emotional. Seeing your reactions I feel like you're into having chills and crying over songs/stories just like me, this is a song I am listening to for 9ver 10 years I think and it still makes me tear up. So I really beg you to react to this song from their official music video. I'll be waiting for this every day and when you finally do it I'll be in the comments to describe or explain the story behind it. I'm not gonna do it now as I want to see your raw reaction to it. Hope this comment reaches you.
Thanks so much! I'll add this to the list for sure! Thanks for your comment!
@@larryshair Can't wait to see your reaction on this man. Oh! and have a tissue box ready, you'll need it.
Cheers!
"Constrains of what she is able to do" That's disrespect if I ever heard it. Jeez.
Couldn't believe what I was hearing.
@@arctic-1878 I know. Its one of the most disrespectful thing I'v heard. Might as well say "Well, she trying her best I guess" One of the best singer/songwriter on the planet, and he has the gall to say "Within the constrain of her ability" Please, go home dude.
I assume he was referring to an eventual "Tibetan" or "Indian" connection. That's a completely different voice culture than hers. They don't use "head voice" at all. So there will never be any "yodel" sounds between head and chest voice. Those sounds originate from European folk traditions. But her background is Northern European She is very influenced by (Norwegian, Celtic and Irish folk music), so the comparison makes little sense. She never intended to imply Indian/Tibetan voice culture. That is his interpretation
@@taccamine8312 Well, his interpretation is not only off but his comment about her "abilities" just pissed me off.
@@maxsteiner1964 Don't get me wrong, I agree with you. He could have worded that better. But also keep in mind this is a reaction channel. They don't know everything about music. They don't know everything about the artist like the hardcore fanbase do. Nothing is worse than reactors who just say what the fans want to hear about their favorite artist. Never any critic or expressing their own view on things they see and hear. That's fake and they only do reactions for the views. If you disagree and think the reactor got it wrong, voice that and explain why in a respectful way. That gives them a chance to learn more about the artist instead of just being shut down.
..Tibet... yes, got that ! - she gets inspiration s from folk music all over the world ( Starvation is a bit middle east..) and al kind of music and sounds ....
But, theres nothing litle about Aurora, apart from her hight ( she sayd that she did not like hugging, because she tend diapear inbetwen someones tits. And another thing she reveal in an intreview is that she made a plan when she was young - that she had 8 thing to say tho the world, and this is the fourth - so listen carefully tho her lyrics, she has definitely something to say to us. She also sayd that she didnt know how long it whould take to bring out the four last cahptels...... where is she comming from ?... we just dont know, do we ?
Best from Bergen, Norway

You must have super hearing because I heard no flaws. By the way it's not a guitar, it's a lute.

Tibet ? tut tut lol
Sheesh, man
The word youre looking for is "shamanic". Honestly it had more of an Irish/bluegrass "First Aid Kit" band vibe. Jesus, Mary and Joseph you almost killed the vibe sir.

Or , you think that Aurora has to fullfill your expectations. But she is doing her own thing, wich perhaps has nothing to do with the tibetanian style.
