What a great service dog story. I have an emotional support dog. He looks at me, I melt. He gives me loves, instant mood change.
I work as a para in a self-contained, high-needs K-2 SpEd classroom, and the shout out to us support staff made me misty-eyed. Admin especially really overlook how hard we work…🥺💕

The only teachers I truly remember, actually showed they cared. They didn’t yell at me but they kept me accountable and played with me all the time!
i only just found these and i love them! i’m 18 and i want to go into teaching after university. i’m living in the uk so it’s a bit different, but i think the teaching experience is all the same with the kids and teachers interacting. you guys are incredible

I’m loving the podcast! It makes me miss the camaraderie of being a classroom teacher. Now I homeschool my own kids (which I love, but it’s not the same), so it’s nice to be able to listen you all and still get that teacher talk time.
I loved this weeks podcast!!!! When you started talking about students with differing abilities that hit home for me. It’s hard out here. I work with students who have different behavioral issues and it’s a whole different ball game. I love them dearly but it’s not easy on a daily basis! Y’all are amazing!!!

This was fun to listen to love the stories and friendship. All of you are awesome and your right there are so many good teachers that don’t go on social media that need to be recognized. One thing I will say it is nice to have guest every now and then but it was so many people and such a short time that time flew by. Have a great thanksgiving
We are thinking about extending our episodes! We have some big things coming that we are waiting to announce and once it is all settled we plan on extending :D

I remember my 5th grade teacher mr Monroe reminds me of him.
Mr Burke was my favorite teacher he made it fun, he was a professional clown for a side job. I spent my middle school and high school years after school visiting his classroom I wish I could find him and see how he’s doing he was such a big part of my life he made me like school

I dislike the term "special education" because our needs aren't "special" we have needs like any human they just can be different from what other people need. There's nothing that's somehow not normal about what we need. I wish special ed classes in public schools were called something different. I just have a very complicated relationship with "special education" classes in public schools as an autistic person with a math learning disability because I had an awful special education teacher that would yell and get angry at me for not understanding math and would just talk shit about nonverbal kids right in front of them like they didn't understand what she was saying. She would baby us and stuff a lot. I just really wish all the ableism and misunderstanding and babying, etc. of autism was over. I hope things get better soon.
I agree with you for the most part. Although I would like to point out that Special education covers a very wide range of educational accommodations including advanced and gifted programs. Special simply denotes that it deviates from the "one size fits all" standard classroom experience. I would be curious to know if you had a better word for it though.
Special education should center more around nurturing unusual skills instead of conforming ! I always say neurodivergent often have super abilities

I don't, I feel, when we do such things, we limit education.
I understand why but, rules only restrict the knowledge available.

As someone who has severe allergies, I always feel super conflicted and selfish whenever I see/hear about animals in the classroom/hospitals/stores etc. I love that others are getting the help they need from their support animals, but I also need to think about myself.
Nala is hypoallergenic. It is not possible to be allergic to her "fur", it is not the same as dog fur.
