I literally was searching all the videos cause I saw the shorts for this episode and I was like WHY CANT I FIND THIS EPISODE. and then low and behold it just got posted lol
If you have Spotify, I recommend subscribing to their podcast because they usually post at the same time on both platforms. Just what I do, hope this helps
Same lol. I kept seeing them on Facebook and was annoyed at how short. Finally decided to search here.
Haha me waiting a whole week bc I watched every single video
Haha me too
They need a recently retired admin to do an ama for questions from the teachers and showing the bs they have to put up with from districts, state, accreditation boards. I think active admins have to walk a fine line so their careers won’t end negatively.
This is an excellent point.
Yes!
I felt his answers were following guidelines of what he felt he could say without essentially cutting his own throat and bri had to call him out because he swerved one of her questions. I think he is a good admin but it felt almost like a professional interview and not really the same vibe they have with other people that come on.
As a parent this podcast is helpful and insightful
As a 14 year this is helpful 😅
Barry was such a good guest host! I really wish he was on longer haha I love hearing things from an admin perspective
My child starts kindergarten in September and I want to understand teachers and admin more so I can be more help to them.
As a teacher, if I hear, "We'll pay more attention in the future" I feel thrown under the bus. Like, I WAS ALREADY PAYING ATTENTION!
There are 20-30+ kids in my room. I do the best I can. Little kids teeth come loose all the time, he'll grown a new one.
Now, I understand the principal can't just say that directly to the parent, but if I walk into that talk cold, without the principal assuring me we're good, then I no longer trust that principal.
That makes sense. I feel the admin should reassure the teacher first and explain why we're having this meeting and how they'll try to deescalte by trying to pay more attention down the road or whatever else the admin suggests. But if you walk into that meeting not knowing your admin understands and trusts that you were paying attention.. I would be upset too.
I think the principal should tell the teacher when they get in just tell them tht I might nor tell u but if I do get a meeting with a parent it doesn't mean tht u r in trouble or something like tht. We r just deescalating the problem tht came in
Love the Teachers off Duty Podcast! It good to humanize Teachers because some people don't understand that Teachers are humans too.
Same
As a dentist that has seen children of all ages, you would be amazed how many parents don’t realize that (1) children have baby teeth; and (2) when these teeth typically come out. I’ve seen so many “emergencies” that are just baby teeth that are loose, so I can unfortunately see how some parents might blame teachers if they see a loose tooth. 🤦🏻♀️
Where were these people during their own childhoods?!
This was a really great episode! I am currently finishing up my Internship to become an Assistant Principal, and hearing how Barry approaches things is a HUGE help. Taking the ideas back to my building when I go in later this week.
hope things go smoothly for you!!! always makes me happy seeing school employees in these comments bc if they’re listening to things like this they’re probably the kind of person i’d have a positive memory of, someone that really works hard to do right by the kids (and teachers, in your case). good luck!
OMG I’ve been waiting all day. Excited to get some laughs from Bri, Rebbeca, Ms. Woolley, and Barry
@Brinley Puls ya I know I like Ms. Woolley better then Lauren tho. No offense to her.
As an educator and aspiring educational leader, this conversation is so needed. Just as effective classes have teachers that connect with their students…School leaders have to also develop and maintain positive relationships with their faculty and staff. 🖤
Good to hear the Administrator perspective. Need more of this. Great episode
Bri started getting happy when Barry said he leads with good faith on all sides, lol It's at 6:28
The set reminds me of Zoom, the classic PBS Kids show. I love it. This was a great episode.
I am so, so happy to have finally figured out where to buy tickets for the Bored Teacher comedy tour in Philadelphia for me and my teacher bestie! Ms. Richardson, hope you will be there!
I got blamed for a child “developing” Epilepsy because he had a seizure in class. Yeah, never had a seizure before….tryin to catch a case.
YAYAYAYAY!!!! SUNDAY FUN DAY! JUST GOT OFF WORK AND THIS IS THE FIRST THING I HAD TO DO WHEN I SAW THIS! LOVE YOU GUYS!!!
OMFGoodness! My son seriously fractured his skull in 3 places at school. Complete accident. Happened at recess. He ran into the back of his friends head. I was not upset with anyone at all. It totally could have happened on my watch too. Parenting is basically just trying to keep your kids alive, and teach them to be decent humans. Shit is going to happen.
no that was irresponsible on the part of YOU and the SCHOOL for not putting the children in FULL MOTORCYCLE HELMETS AT ALL TIMES!!!! should have known better!!! (obviously i’m kidding and glad your son is okay in the long run - shit happens but accidents like that are still super scary regardless. he’s at least gotten a head start on interesting stories to tell at parties as a mild upside lol)
@@sidoniegabrielle269 Ah yes, I missed that memo. 😂☠️
It was definitely absolutely terrifying.
Shout out to Ms. Nieto. Nest principle ever. ( she waved good morning to every one with a smile and said happy birthday everyone when there was no bdays)
Blessed to have an admin who will stand in the line of fire for me.
My first year admin changed over after winter break. The new principal came with some great reviews and at no time did I see what others saw. She was very condescending, demeaning, micromanaging, and unsupportive toward me. Not sure if it was because I had a behavior unit or what, but I left and was emerging teacher of the year the following year at another school. The leadership role of admin can hurt or help their teachers. If I had stayed, I would have quit teaching,
in my school all the admins are mostly teachers themselves our Librarian: ADMIN
Our Innovation Teacher: ADMIN
our ELA Support: ADMIN
our Math Support: ADMIN
P.E.: ADMIN
Art: ADMIN
Aquatics Director: ADMIN
I'm a paraprofessional in a small town in Illinois and our elementary school is a joke there's absolutely zero punishment these kids will cuss a teacher out i can't stand disrespect
Blame the "one child polciy" bc admin encouraged to keep the student in tube classroom in order to keep that money coming in.
When a twelve year old is watching this podcast- “SOOOOooO this is what teachers go through, huh. Feel bad….”
Absolutely love this point of view ; he has amazing mentors !!! I feel like you all make amazing mentors !The communication you guys create through this alone is amazing!
Mr. White said it - There are a LOT of amazing administrators out there. I'm grateful that I have a very supportive and undersatnding Admin team. I also understand that they are getting imense pressure from all sides of the education vise: Parents, Teachers, District - all that pressure, and often conflicting. They deserve some grace, too.
This channel is great
I’m response to having standards written on the board: they are required so that when admin or district walks in for observation, they can know what your objective is without interrupting your instruction to ask.
Oh, no. They will still interrupt the class to ask. They go around from student to student and will ask them what the objective is while I'm teaching. We're not only required to write them on the board, we read them out to the students and have the students say them back along with how they're going to do the objective and why they're doing it. Every time, the kids just look at me like, "Can't this fool read? It's on the board!"
Love this podcast!
Every single day I was looking at old videos of your podcasts to watch or y’all individual UA-cam’s
There needs to be a reasonable cut off point for extreme cases of parents abusing their right “to be heard”. They are disproportionately monopolizing valuable time that needs to be refocused on other students. Parents who are not interested in compromise or reality, the on a who consistently bully admin and teachers so they can wear us down and get their way no matter what need to be stopped. We are supposed to be a team, helping their child be successful, but they view us merely as their personal servants to do only what they what at all times. Admin must start shutting these parents down, because the system in its current state does not have the hours and hours to devote to this pointless dog and pony show of always “hearing out” parent concerns for abusive parents.
LONGER PODS PLEASE AND THANKS
Idk if y’all will see this but I love y’all’s podcast. My mom is a teacher and I’ve heard all ends of it my whole life so I think it’s so funny hearing yalls stories too. Ms Richardson is freaking HILARIOUS, Mrs Rodgers is an empath, innocent, and was sheltered as a child, and that’s literally me. And Mrs Wooly reminds me of my aunt the way she talks and tells stories so I just feel at home watching this. Please keep making these!!
I had been seeing multiple reels of episode clips the past few weeks and wanted to hear more. So glad I did! Been binging the vids lol
Saw this show on an Instagram short and now I'm subscribed!
i love how theres already 19 comments and no one has watched the full video yet XD. love this podcast
Yay new podcasts
love barry & love the longer episodes
doing a happy dance because my favorite teachers just posted a new episode!😁
Ms Richardson “righ righ righ righ righ. Righ righ righ”
As a lowly factory worker my brain just says, if the district or state or whatever is ordering that this new thing or that be done, why can't the admin pull a quick meeting of the school staff (lunchroom personnel and custodians included) and say "Hey guys, I know everyone already has a lot on their plate but an order came in that they want 'this' added in, anyone have any suggestions as to how we can make this happen?".....I've met several custodians and lunchroom personnel that honestly seemed far more intelligent than some of the teachers I had back in the day, and beyond that, some times the difference in perspective could make all the difference....
Fire every administrator. Anyone who doesn't directly teach students, fire them. Budgets get cut and teachers get laid off every year, and I'm sick of it. Administrators who make six figures+ while teachers get laid off makes me so angry
Don't forget superintendent cutting corners to give himself bonuses so he can retire as a millionare
You guys are awesome and I'm going to 5 grade I'm really excited
So am I!
i love bri and he laughs it makes me smile
I wish my son's school had a great administration. Our school district sucks
I've missed the past few episodes, because UA-cam unsubscribed me! Time to binge your recent content!
When I was in middle school the group of administrators came in and I had broke my shoe earlier that morning and so I got my shoes from the office and was coming back one shoe in my hand a bag with shoes in it and one shoe on my feet and it was so embarrassing and they were all like hi and I was like hi and walked to class super embarrassed (class just started and I went during passing period)
my local school district (not small, 5 high schools) has sub coordinators at every school, and one for the district
I did not expect to see Barry White’s son on this show lol
Spent 15 years of my life having terrible bosses, to land two great admin that I'm lucky enough to be working for makes all the difference
My friend during her first year of teaching the principal came into her class unannounced in a freshman class and one kid asked “miss, who is that?” She then had to introduce the whole class to their principal 🤦🏼♀️🤣
Cool podcast
Mr. White: idea for your raffle. Acronyms are overwhelming for new teachers. In those first meetings, when a new teacher heard you using an acronym without explaining what it means, the first teacher to raise their hands (or auction paddle or something else fun) gets to put their name in the box for the raffle.....
Y’all should do a clips channel as well as the podcast channel! Make that moooney!!!!
Take a shot everytime bri says “right right”
Funny story: my past principal was barely ever seen. One of my students was visiting the nurse whose office was next to the principals. The principal came up to get in her office and he blocked her saying that the principal wasn’t in and strangers couldn’t just enter that office. She was told him that she was the principal and he was like no your not I haven’t seen you at all this year and proceeded to tell her the assistant principal was the only principal.
I wonder how that went
I want to stress that as a parent..we feel similarly to teachers in the sense that we are under a thumb. we worry about every little thing that goes wrong. we worry about attendance or bad behavior...we worry about the safety of our children above all else. But the requirements also stress us out. all we re trying to do if provide a good life for our children and we have to worry about for instance...attendance being lawful. If my child is having attention issues (which have already been brought to your attention by me in the beginning of the year ) doing poorly because they are actually bored or just off..they need the fidget they can't have I'm class. Now there is a battle of sorts between family and teacher. the teacher NEEDS the performance at a certain level and looks to push blame onto family. well what's going on at home?
alot of this no child left behind and other red tape is causing issues for all. unnecessary issues, unrealistic expectations.
NEw Episode !
I like it
Is he still an admin? If so where? Does his school have any vacancies? I would be willing to move across the country to have an admin that is that supportive.
Is tell coming back? Barry is awesome.
Yeah, i miss Tell and I hope he comes back, he was halrious.
@@jhoneneswein8320 same 😭
Mr. Berry, I think I'm going to need you to transfer to Uwharrie Charter in Asheboro. For real!!
Honestly. These parents have got to be crazy. I fractured my arm on the playground at my elementary school swinging on the new play set this weird wheel that was at the end of the monkey bars. Weird thing. I swung around it and accidentally my hand slipped off and my arm whacked the bar that holds the whole thing up and it fractured. I fell from the thing and was frozen on the ground. Core memory right there. My mom came and got me and drove my right to the doctor. Didn’t blame the school at all. She knows kids do dumb stuff and break bones get hurt constantly. And it’s not the teachers fault. Lol I have an awesome mom though.
Hi! I was really intrigued when the admin’s own educational background became a question, though I don’t think I caught the response. Do they take classes to help them in their roles as admin? What kind of classes are they?
Finally
I felt like I was in church when he was talking. 😂😂
Is it bad that I'm not a teacher but love the podcast and the styles from that box
Literally, I’m a hs student and I love listening to the teachers perspective of school
Barry White jr as in THE Barry White’s son?? Why am I just now realizing this??
That’s what I asked.
I went to a private Catholic school my whole life and the admins were NEVER present. Our principal was always a scary nun and whenever we saw her around campus we were always petrified to even speak. We only ever saw her like once a month though. All the other admins were always confined to the front office and we didn't know their names.
Right
why do I always read the title with an intense movie trailer voice?
Someone plz tell me the name of the theme song so that I can listen to it all THE Time
I didn’t know Rebecca and mrs. Woolley knew each other🙂
I wonder who the next guess will be
Admins three main purpose, that’s all they care about: 1. Do as little as possible and only if really necessary 2. Remain status quo. 3. Don’t do anything to rock the system.
A teacher should never have to be in a conference because a 1st grader has a loose tooth. That’s ridiculous.
The parents learn to make false accusations in today's society so that they can get those teachers in trouble for their entertainment
So we not gonna ask how life was being a kid if one of the greatest singers in history
First! Can I plz get a hi? I'm such a huge fan!
Hi
hi? I’m such a huge fan!
Heyyyy
OK I am from a small town and not a big district for the area. But as a old student I would say I don't ever recall seeing anyone come in the class to study the teachers or any higher ups come into the classrooms at all. I do know that the way the state or school would study a teacher is to tap into the speaker system that is in each room to hear what is actually going on but would never see someone actually be in the classroom to evaluate the teacher. The only time a student actually met the principal was usually the first day of school or some assembly we would go to or if you were sent to the office. Now this is coming from someone that graduated in 1993. I will say now days I have noticed the principal is more seen by students and teachers. They still don't personally come into the classrooms to evaluate but in the high school each classroom does have a camera now that is located at the front of the class pointing out to the students. This is how teachers are being "evaluated" but they were actually installed by recommendation from the parents to help prevent a fight or a issue happen in the class without having proof now to protect the teachers. Some classrooms will even have 3 to 4 cameras in the class for ones that have "issue" students and might need it for better protection of the teacher and the student. I don't know all what I am saying here but wanted to pass out what is done in my small town and could work with other schools. I think personally it would have helped big time if there was a camera in the class when Lauren was attacked by her student and then something would have been done for her , the student and the responsibility of the school instead of just blowing it off and trying to ignore what had happend.
Every time he says Barry White I picture the singer Barry White
Here in the UK we have head teachers. The one at my highschool was embezzling money, and i mean like, up too £100'000. It was in the news and everything! I remember finding out about thinking holy shit. What does embezzl mean ahaha
Can you talk about school sports?
Wdym last few episodes???
I'm said it's ending soon
Huh what do you mean?
Berry is the guy from the circle
Let's play a game: how many times honest teacher vibes says "right". 🤣
I’m surprised no one has said anything about Barry being named mr white, kinda like Walter white lol
1st story, my 1st question would be how old is the kid and is it a baby tooth?
Drink everytime bri says right (this is not a hate comment I love y'all)
👍👍👍
Ok.. I’mma have to stop you right there.
Barry, my friend, you just said meat and potatoes.. in gumbo. 🙃
No. No sir.
So what you put in yours then? Because I’m from New Orleans. The birth place of gumbo. And you have a gumbo with meat and potatoes in it🤷🏾♀️. And I’m pretty sure he talking like seafood meat, huh?
If someone said Berry was related to Chris Rock I would’ve believed you.
58th! I love this podcast! Also early… oh wait… LATE!
Yooo
Video Idea: You should do a video on period stories that you have had in the time you have been teaching. To raise awareness about periods in school. Because i know some teachers refuse to let students go to the bathroom and that should not be a thing.
for the loose tooth thing, it depends if we’re talking about a baby tooth or an adult tooth. if that kid has a wiggly adult tooth, yeah, i’d have questions. but a wiggly baby tooth? ma’am, that’s what happens to kids. it just does.
I remember my teacher keeping little treasure chests for kids who lost their teeth in school. I was so jealous I never got one
In this case they were talking about baby teeth. I mean didn’t they say 1st grade🤷🏾♀️
I would’ve loved this man for a principle my hs principal demanded everyone call him DR MADDOX. But I was a nobody so I would call him MR Maddox real loud 🥴and he probably ain’t even know my name
No idea Rogers had adhd
Wow those were some softball questions for Barry, just to see the list of questions he denied answering on camera would be more interesting.
Second the minute he said principal for only K-2 changes perspective on his duties.
Third, Barry really didn’t answer Lauren’s question at the beginning about the kid who twisted her wrist.
Final point, I wonder when Bri is announcing when she is leaving the podcast?
I agree on what most of what you said. I wish they would bring a middle school or highschool admin on. That would be more interesting, also Bri is leaving? I have watched the whole thing yet so I don’t know.
@@Ilovecrystals922 yea she announced on her Tik Tok a few weeks ago she was walking away from the comedy tour and podcast for personal reason. To add a middle school teacher would be a cool addition as well
@@MrMarohlsclassroom ahh alright. I don’t follow her on anything so I wouldn’t know about anything. But thanks!
Middle school and high school admins would be amazing because middle and high schools are so big, I feel like they’d have more experience with crazy teachers and parents.
@@amandac9845 July 16th I just check to be sure
Why is Bri leaving the podcast?
This is probably completely different. But i feel like teachers do that where they think one size fits all. And thats not true there are kids who learn differently and then don’t get attention because of it. Because they think everyone learns the same
Teachers know that “one size doesn’t fits all”. What I think they mean is after they done tried everything that they can think of what is something else that can be done. That’s when you go to admin to get their view on things. Because admin might think of something that I wouldn’t have even thought about.
EARLY
