    They need a recently retired admin to do an ama for questions from the teachers and showing the bs they have to put up with from districts, state, accreditation boards. I think active admins have to walk a fine line so their careers won’t end negatively.

      I felt his answers were following guidelines of what he felt he could say without essentially cutting his own throat and bri had to call him out because he swerved one of her questions. I think he is a good admin but it felt almost like a professional interview and not really the same vibe they have with other people that come on.

    As a teacher, if I hear, "We'll pay more attention in the future" I feel thrown under the bus. Like, I WAS ALREADY PAYING ATTENTION!
    There are 20-30+ kids in my room. I do the best I can. Little kids teeth come loose all the time, he'll grown a new one.
    Now, I understand the principal can't just say that directly to the parent, but if I walk into that talk cold, without the principal assuring me we're good, then I no longer trust that principal.

    • @laurengurin
      @laurengurin Рік тому +21

      That makes sense. I feel the admin should reassure the teacher first and explain why we're having this meeting and how they'll try to deescalte by trying to pay more attention down the road or whatever else the admin suggests. But if you walk into that meeting not knowing your admin understands and trusts that you were paying attention.. I would be upset too.

      I think the principal should tell the teacher when they get in just tell them tht I might nor tell u but if I do get a meeting with a parent it doesn't mean tht u r in trouble or something like tht. We r just deescalating the problem tht came in

    As a dentist that has seen children of all ages, you would be amazed how many parents don’t realize that (1) children have baby teeth; and (2) when these teeth typically come out. I’ve seen so many “emergencies” that are just baby teeth that are loose, so I can unfortunately see how some parents might blame teachers if they see a loose tooth. 🤦🏻‍♀️

    My first year admin changed over after winter break. The new principal came with some great reviews and at no time did I see what others saw. She was very condescending, demeaning, micromanaging, and unsupportive toward me. Not sure if it was because I had a behavior unit or what, but I left and was emerging teacher of the year the following year at another school. The leadership role of admin can hurt or help their teachers. If I had stayed, I would have quit teaching,

    • @cajunoutofwater4806
      @cajunoutofwater4806 Рік тому +4

      Oh, no. They will still interrupt the class to ask. They go around from student to student and will ask them what the objective is while I'm teaching. We're not only required to write them on the board, we read them out to the students and have the students say them back along with how they're going to do the objective and why they're doing it. Every time, the kids just look at me like, "Can't this fool read? It's on the board!"

    There needs to be a reasonable cut off point for extreme cases of parents abusing their right “to be heard”. They are disproportionately monopolizing valuable time that needs to be refocused on other students. Parents who are not interested in compromise or reality, the on a who consistently bully admin and teachers so they can wear us down and get their way no matter what need to be stopped. We are supposed to be a team, helping their child be successful, but they view us merely as their personal servants to do only what they what at all times. Admin must start shutting these parents down, because the system in its current state does not have the hours and hours to devote to this pointless dog and pony show of always “hearing out” parent concerns for abusive parents.

    As a lowly factory worker my brain just says, if the district or state or whatever is ordering that this new thing or that be done, why can't the admin pull a quick meeting of the school staff (lunchroom personnel and custodians included) and say "Hey guys, I know everyone already has a lot on their plate but an order came in that they want 'this' added in, anyone have any suggestions as to how we can make this happen?".....I've met several custodians and lunchroom personnel that honestly seemed far more intelligent than some of the teachers I had back in the day, and beyond that, some times the difference in perspective could make all the difference....

The principal came up to get in her office and he blocked her saying that the principal wasn’t in and strangers couldn’t just enter that office. She was told him that she was the principal and he was like no your not I haven’t seen you at all this year and proceeded to tell her the assistant principal was the only principal.

    I want to stress that as a parent..we feel similarly to teachers in the sense that we are under a thumb. we worry about every little thing that goes wrong. we worry about attendance or bad behavior...we worry about the safety of our children above all else. But the requirements also stress us out. all we re trying to do if provide a good life for our children and we have to worry about for instance...attendance being lawful. If my child is having attention issues (which have already been brought to your attention by me in the beginning of the year ) doing poorly because they are actually bored or just off..they need the fidget they can't have I'm class. Now there is a battle of sorts between family and teacher. the teacher NEEDS the performance at a certain level and looks to push blame onto family. well what's going on at home?
    alot of this no child left behind and other red tape is causing issues for all. unnecessary issues, unrealistic expectations.

Weird thing. I swung around it and accidentally my hand slipped off and my arm whacked the bar that holds the whole thing up and it fractured. I fell from the thing and was frozen on the ground. Core memory right there. My mom came and got me and drove my right to the doctor. Didn’t blame the school at all. She knows kids do dumb stuff and break bones get hurt constantly. And it’s not the teachers fault. Lol I have an awesome mom though.

    OK I am from a small town and not a big district for the area. But as a old student I would say I don't ever recall seeing anyone come in the class to study the teachers or any higher ups come into the classrooms at all. I do know that the way the state or school would study a teacher is to tap into the speaker system that is in each room to hear what is actually going on but would never see someone actually be in the classroom to evaluate the teacher. The only time a student actually met the principal was usually the first day of school or some assembly we would go to or if you were sent to the office. Now this is coming from someone that graduated in 1993. I will say now days I have noticed the principal is more seen by students and teachers. They still don't personally come into the classrooms to evaluate but in the high school each classroom does have a camera now that is located at the front of the class pointing out to the students. This is how teachers are being "evaluated" but they were actually installed by recommendation from the parents to help prevent a fight or a issue happen in the class without having proof now to protect the teachers. Some classrooms will even have 3 to 4 cameras in the class for ones that have "issue" students and might need it for better protection of the teacher and the student. I don't know all what I am saying here but wanted to pass out what is done in my small town and could work with other schools. I think personally it would have helped big time if there was a camera in the class when Lauren was attacked by her student and then something would have been done for her , the student and the responsibility of the school instead of just blowing it off and trying to ignore what had happend.

    Here in the UK we have head teachers. The one at my highschool was embezzling money, and i mean like, up too £100'000. It was in the news and everything! I remember finding out about thinking holy shit. What does embezzl mean ahaha

    Video Idea: You should do a video on period stories that you have had in the time you have been teaching. To raise awareness about periods in school. Because i know some teachers refuse to let students go to the bathroom and that should not be a thing.

    for the loose tooth thing, it depends if we’re talking about a baby tooth or an adult tooth. if that kid has a wiggly adult tooth, yeah, i’d have questions. but a wiggly baby tooth? ma’am, that’s what happens to kids. it just does.

    Wow those were some softball questions for Barry, just to see the list of questions he denied answering on camera would be more interesting.
    Second the minute he said principal for only K-2 changes perspective on his duties.
    Third, Barry really didn’t answer Lauren’s question at the beginning about the kid who twisted her wrist.
    Final point, I wonder when Bri is announcing when she is leaving the podcast?

  • @KennaAbby1216

    This is probably completely different. But i feel like teachers do that where they think one size fits all. And thats not true there are kids who learn differently and then don’t get attention because of it. Because they think everyone learns the same

    • @jashelleaMarieah
      @jashelleaMarieah Рік тому +1

      Teachers know that “one size doesn’t fits all”. What I think they mean is after they done tried everything that they can think of what is something else that can be done. That’s when you go to admin to get their view on things. Because admin might think of something that I wouldn’t have even thought about.
