I did the same first but ive never done any type of dirt roads or off roading but looking forward to it. Living in Washington state i wont have to go too far.
My 2008 dl 650 brought me from Ireland to Croatia and back.Only problem....one brake light bulb burned out.....I can live with that lol..I am so happy with it that I have just ordered new one for January 2021
I have almost 30,000 miles on my '06 V Strom. I ride a lot of dirt and gravel roads. Never had a bolt vibrate loose. The V works really well for what it was made for - road and two track off road. If you're going to ride a lot off road, you'll need a skid plate or you'll put a rock through the low hanging oil filter. Overall good video.
New idea in this electronic age: Ride without any. Enjoy the ride. Don't let "ride reports" crowd your mind, blind you to your journey, cause you to miss out on the experience because everyone else wants the experience they are not willing to do themselves. Let it be a ride for you. Let it be your experience and not everyone else's.
Sometimes. But I'm mostly speaking about the young generation these days who can't view or experience anything without their cell phone up in front of their faces sending that experience to a host of social media sites. They end up missing the experience because they're too fixated on getting a shot it instead of seeing it naturally.
just bought a 2016 model suzuki 650,replace my 20 year old transalp which has been totally reliable.will be keeping it as its a part of me.£5000with 5000 on the clock alot of extras and like new.as smooth as a rolls royce
No riding on gravel my ass! I ride 12 miles of gravel on my 06 DL everyday. With the right tires it's an non issue. And dude....you get some skid plates, crash bars, hand protectors and soft bags and you can go off road just fine.
Planning on a very similar adventure...but riding a new V Strom 1050 XT ADV. I have a 2018 SV650 so know the Suzuki 650 v twin is bulletproof. Like all Suzuki v twins. Great powerplants with wonderful torque.
think you got it spot on..... bm s too expensive and unreliable.. as the ktm s. .. the storms go on and on with basic maintenance... you can buy a gel seat for sore bum. with the fuel you save too.;)
I recently bought an 07 650 with 78 k/km on it for $1850.00 au and put another $1200 into it with chain and sprockets, Shinko 705 tyres, front rotors, brake pads fork seals and rego. It’s my go to bike now, as its such an easy and comfortable bike to ride.. I think My MT01 is a bit jealous😂😂The Vstrom is an awesome allrounder… Cheers from Aussie.
I've seen people who have both BMW GS and VStroms say if they were going to go across the country, on the BMW they'd be sure to have it fully serviced first. On the VStrom they'd just hop on and go because it WOULD make it, they just don't break down.
Yeah I can agree with that. One of the things I hear BMW riders say is that they have a network of shops throughout the world for them. With suzuki, the engines and bikes dont break, and any japanese shop will work on them because they are the universal japanese style bikes. If i was to ride around the world, there wouldn't be much debating. The vstrom has been an amazing bike.
Thanks for doing the video. I have a 2015 V Strom 650 and plan to make long journeys around the country and Canada when I retire in ~ 2 years. So I'm figuring our whether the V Strom is the bike. Did the loose frame bolt come completely off? If so, then what happened? How many times did you change the oil? Bring your own filters with you? How long did the tires last? Did you have new tires waiting somewhere for you? Thanks again!
Just completed another around the u.s tour on the vstrom. Now up to 62k miles. Check out my other channel Motardsquid for the ride vlog. Only 1 issue on the ride.
Are you on schedule to start touring? I'm planning to do the same when/if I'm retired next year. Hoping to travel throughout Mexico rather than the US however. Cheers
tires really play a part in riding. Once the pavement ends a dual sport tire will do so much better. But i generally use road tires because i barely go in the dirt.
HELL I HAVE 82.000 ON MY DUCATI MULTISTRADA !!! Going cross country for a month in August !!" if this Suzuki is anything like my 84 gs 750 sold that with 93.000 on it !!😎😎😎😎😎😄😄😄😄🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
Some people like to think their bikes are better in the gravel than they actually are. Alot of depends on tires and rider. But given the same skill, same tires a light dual sport is always best for offroad.
The best motorcycle I have had. Spain-Marrocco, Spain-Italy, ...
1000km / day without get tired.
I agree with you, DL 650 it's a great bike: Simple and reliable, as a motorcycle need to be. Greetings from Brazil!
Best bike made in the world.
I have a 1000 that I bought brand new last May. 25, 000 miles so far
Left Harley and will never go back
Amazing bike

I also left Harley a few years ago and will never go back
I bought a new 2005 DL1000 great bike. I just sold it because of health reasons 55K miles no problems.
@@luis76one Where you at Louie? I'm in Mill Creek, WA if you'd like to meet and ride?
Mine is 06, got it new, just passing 50,000 miles almost all on road. All over western us, basic matance no problem. Love it
Man.. Wrong title. With that bike you can go around the world from any direction you start. It all depend on the Rider than the bike.
An EXCELLENT review of virtually every facet of ownership of this bike. Thanks!
i love looking at my motorcycle, when i'm camping
For the money, the V-strom is a superb motorcycle! I've got 150000km on mine.
for the money?? You can get better than that?? for more money????? No.

There's always the BMW with chinese loncin ,Engine end it's recalls and overpricing.🤔
You're right nothing beats a strom
@@jorgeiturbe953 I've got 238 000kms on my V-strom now. Still running!
Awesome bikes....have 85k on my ‘07. Still runs like like a brand new Sears sewing machine. Unreal.

@@VehicleHunter i enjoy my trips alone, horses for courses.travel companions can be a real pain
I have a 2013 and love it. The best bang for the buck for sure. does everything better than a klr except the off road part.
Jeff do you still have your 2013 .
Because I just bought a 2013 with 29 thousand miles and love it.
Nice trip and like the vstorm from a fellow biker in the UK

Good video.Fast moving scenes which works well.
In 2018 I rode my 2013 model, two up around the world. Did 43,000 miles, with no reliability issues.

Yep tires make a world of a difference and as mentioned. About the skid place and crash bars give you the peace of mind keeping the bike safe.
No doubt about it. People have travelled around the world on less powerful bikes.
I've had my 06 dl650 10k 2,800.00 for 6 days. Loving it so far 400 miles and counting.

Nicely put together video, enjoyed watching it.
Ill be picking up an 2008 here in a month then doing the same trip end of year
Now that’s a silly question, of course it can 👍🏻
You can pull a small trailer that can store more stuffs for a long trip across the country.
Sounds like you need to put blue lock tight on all the bolts and nuts .
Congratulations on your ride and thanks for a nice video

Need knobby tires for that offroad experience.

With simple regular maintenance the Wee can go coast to coast to coast to coast. The only issue to watch out for is the idiots on the highways.
SURE!!!! It can make it across AND BACK
you need a crashbars ;)
I need alot of things for this. I'd love a centerstand! My givis are like crashbars
To answer your question: YES
What windshield do you have on your bike in this video ? And how do you like it ?
How much money did it cost you

Hi! do you believe that the new single headlight can brighten better than the old twice headlight?
The headlights are ok on the bike. But not very good for night riding. I like aux lights on this bad boy.
Is there a maintenance of 40 thousand for the engine ... and what is it?
I just did routine maintenance. Never adjusted the valves, everything was quiet and smooth. This is as low maintenance as it gets.
Is there a real need for the dual-sport tires vs. plain street tires?
tires really play a part in riding. Once the pavement ends a dual sport tire will do so much better. But i generally use road tires because i barely go in the dirt.
I done 3000 km in 3 days without any problems.

"not the best bike to ride in gravel...etc" you mean not thew best tires? Those tires are like 90% road tires

Cool windscreen? Not at all cool.
My butt, back, and legs can take about 80 miles before taking a break. That length of trip would take me months!
