    I just replaced my starter in a 2007 F350 recently. Thanks for posting this video for a little guidance. It was much appreciated. I will add, the very frustrating top bolt is much easier to access if you remove the starter wiring first. Then I sequenced bolt removal as follows: 13mm with 6" extension behind the solenoid, then bottom bolt, then middle bolt. This way, the starter will stay aligned against the mounting faces and not have a tendency to rack forward since it's a pretty heavy part. Leaving the middle bolt last allows you to get a hand on the starter while removing the bolt. Then, rotate the top towards you to get past the clearances in your way and she comes right out. Before you put the new on in, obviously clean the mounting surfaces, but I also noticed some small metal chunks from the old part inside the cavity where the gear engages which I fished out with an appropriately scaled magnet. Then I installed in the exact order as removed. Now that I have done it once, I could probably do this again in a half hour. Thanks again for the post. Your rig is damn nice looking.

    You should remind everyone to disconnect the positive cable from the battery first.

      Always remove ground cable first. This minimizes any chance to strike an arc from positive to ground while removing.

    I love the way you people make it sound so easy to change a starter on a Ford, small truck! I could not find one video on how to replace the starter on a 1991 F Super Duty truck, with a V/8 gasoline engine, after dropping the exaust header pipe down i still could not reach the top bolt on the starter! I would like for someone to demonstrate just how easy it is to r-r that starter, and get back to me!

    It might be over kill but I removed the inner fender liner which allowed easy access to the third hidden bolt.

    Thanks for doing your video. It was very helpful. I struggled a couple of hours trying to remove my starter while lying with the top of my head oriented towards the back of the truck. When I reversed my position and had the top of my head against the front tire as you suggested, removal became a whole lot easier. It is amazing what a difference my body position had in this little chore. Visibility is much better from that viewpoint.

    So much easier if you get the hidden bolt out first after you take the cables and batteries disconnected. Good video though buddy!!

    Nice video, just one thing to add. Always remove the positive battery cable first when changing a starter.

    The guy helping me couldn’t get the top bolt out, eventually resorted to taking the fender well out to get a little more access. Eventually we got it out. The three starter bolts had 10mm heads but regular shanks. I think the 10 mm made it easier to get the socket and extension in. We didn’t need the swivel drive.

    Curious? Why did you switch to a 6.4 starter?

  • @billmalec
    @billmalec 2 роки тому

    Replaced the one on our 7.3 just yesterday. I wouldn't say it's easy(laying under the truck) but it wasn't crazy difficult. Why those electrical connections are on top in the 3-bolt starter is a head scratcher though. Totally dumb.
    Anyway, this thing turns over faster than I ever ever remember it doing. Wish I changed it 10 years ago. Went thru all the 'starting problems' of the 7.3 when it was the starter all this time! 🤦🤦

    Also, use a 6.7 starter. Get a 5/16 I.d 1" metal sleeve for the the lower bolt hole and it will be the best low buck upgrade for ur 6.0

    The engine in this 1991 F SuperDuty, one ton flat bed truck, appears to have the 460 cubic inch gasoline engine in it, the starter is a night mare reach, i worked on this mess for a while, but it is not easy! I would like to see if someone has done a starter R-R concept of truck to see if its me or just a difficult job to change the starter? information is always helpful! Thanks.

      Virian Bouze - surprisingly enough it turns out to be very easy to remove that Bolt. That is if you know the trick.:-) all it actually takes is a swivel and 22 Plus inches of extension. That has worked for me on at least 15 different F250s with the 460 engine. Starter out and in 20 to 40 minutes. By the way make sure you do disconnect the battery always starting with the negative post. Reverse that for connecting. Good luck

    i just replaced the alternator and 2 new batteries.. they were all good at auto zone. but now the voltage is around 11 and after a few days it drops till its dead. and when i try to turn it on sometimes it "click click click" or sometimes it doesnt do anything ... im thinking its the starter

      I have the same problem with my 350 v10 2008. Something is randomly draining my battery after about 20 hours after driving it. But it happens randomly. Have you ever found the cause to this. Please let me know.

    • @abelg66
      @abelg66 7 років тому

      cant find the problem yet. i started off cleaning the posts the grounds. it starts low and increases within a few minutes to 13.8 range. Ive had a mechanic saying thats normal. But then i had to leave the truck parked for 3 days and forgot to unplug the batteries so it would start when i came back. i came back, the truck started but then again i purchased the batteries in may last year and they held up for 6 months then one gave up.got new ones days before i left for 3 days. so the problems could still remain. it could be a short somewhere. Havent taken it to get checked since it hasnt left me stranded...yet
