It is an absolute treat every time I remember to revisit this.
please put this on spotify. this recording exactly. please.
"I wonder to who and what it is youre saying today" has got to be one of the most painful things to hear when you miss someone in your life
I really wish i was still a part of her life
It is wonder full you got to have her in your life.
"Happy just to be with you...and you were happy for me." Those words hit much worse. Why would one want someone who isn't happy to be with them, too? That is life's more difficult lessons. Anyway , it's a beautifully reflective song. One of his best.
@@jedunn8950 that’s a perspective that I have never considered. And I appreciate that you shared it. I have always seen this song as a celebration of youthful, first love experience. And the line(to me, at least until now, but damn, you’ve given me reason to pause!) represents the bliss, the truth, the absolute sincerity of what LOVE is. He was happy “just” to be with her. LOVE. And she was happy for him. Because he was happy. LOVE. I’m sticking with my original interpretation, but you have definitely given me a new perspective on the thing. Much obliged.
You are so welcome, the beauty of poetic lyrics…they mean what we see in them. They’re as we are, or perceive…no?
This song is perfect. Just perfect. Thanks Sam.
Hell Yeah. Sam Beam... This is the nicest guy ever. Really good songs and yet so underrated. tks for sharing KEXP
Goosebumps, all the way through. Eloquent songwriting and beautiful execution.
I like this version the best. It feels like his.
The last line is everything
I was just going to say that :)
It really is.
The amount of views and likes on this video does not do justice to the awesomeness of this tune, in this setting, in this studio, and in this channel... Simply amazing!
Mary Ann, do you remember
The tree by the river
When we were seventeen?
The dark canyon wall, the call and the answer
And the mare in the pasture
Pitch black and baring its teeth
I recall the sun in our faces
Stuck and leaning on graces
And being strangers to change
The radio and the bones we found frozen
And all the thorns and the roses
Beneath your windowpane
Now I'm asleep in a car
I mean the world to a potty-mouth girl
And a pretty pair of blue-eyed birds
Time isn't kind or unkind, you liked to say
But I wonder to who
And what it is you're saying today
Now I'm asleep in a car
I mean the world to a potty-mouth girl
And a pretty pair of blue-eyed birds
Time isn't kind or unkind, you liked to say
But I wonder to who
And what it is you're saying today
Mary Ann, do you remember
The tree by the river
When we were seventeen?
The dark canyon road; I was coy in the half moon
Happy just to be with you
And you were happy for me
These acoustic versions played at KEXP are so much better than the CD. I have discovered about him here and then i went to check the actual recordings. They are not bad, but kind of frustrating in my opinion. I like these here so much better.
Roberto Cesar Borges 100% agree man. i don't like the "echoe-y" effect he adds. fucking annoying
I disagree, his albums are usually amazing and have amazing songwriting. He also has some excellent musicians that play for him! Check out Ghost by Ghost for some stuff you might enjoy!
I'm a huge fan of SAM BEAN, maybe not that much from Iron & Wine hahah! Nothing compares to this single guitar + voice of this guy
sam beam is iron and wine
Personally, I always like the melodies more live, but I don't like how dry the recording is, at least on the KEXP recordings
Actual tears when I first heard this version
My dad loves this 💖
The acoustic version is beautiful. This should’ve been the official version lol
Think lightly of yourself and deeply of the world
This version is the best version there is
Heartbreakingly beautiful.
KEXP, you're the best, and I love you.
What a magnificent beard! The music is beautiful too
The epitome of Easy-Listening!
Love it
Memories!
I wish he had more stuff like this the quality of this beats allot of the recordings for me
100% agree he's way better live and fresh.
It's funny. I was - am - I'm still figuring that part out - dating a girl named Mary Ann, and when I would go and visit her, I'd sleep in a car. And she's a potty-mouth girl. It's almost as if this song was written about us. Obviously it wasn't, but it's one of the most literally relatable songs I've ever heard.
I Just love this guy
Earth wizard!
You can always be a cowboy but not always a tough cowboy
Awesome!
wonderful
Why isn't Sam Beam famous.... ?? His singing and songwriting are superb...
Tab, anyone?
i dont live you, but i feeel you
Did he record this song?

Gregório Duvivier, é você?
