      I ABSOLUTELY use henna to cover my grays! I use a myriad of moisturizing products afterward (DC, leave in, stylers). Then the next go round on wash day, I use products that are protein-moisture balanced.

    Great video, I've been doing henna/indigo on my locs for many years and my greys are at the front and are very very stubborn, lol. So I have to do the 2 step method.

    • @JahleeyahKalonji
      @JahleeyahKalonji 3 роки тому +9

      I will detail my process, I use warm coconut milk and I mix the henna in an iron vessel. The iron vessel makes the henna more dark instead of red/orange. Coconut milk also gives you almost instant dye release (got this gem from a blog years ago, it was a happy accident discovered when experimenting). I add amla to the mix and for moisture aloe vera powder with a little oil. Once the dye releases, I add indigo. I usually mix it first, but I just saw someone add it directly to the henna mix and cover it for 15 minutes, so I'm going to try this method. I leave the mix on for 4-6 hrs depending on the time of day. I rinse until the water is clear, then I rinse again with a dilution of conditioner and water. For the 2nd step, it's indigo mixed with warm water, salt and aloe vera powder. You can actually apply it to your hair without waiting for the dye release because the colour will release on your hair. I leave this on as long as I'm able, sometimes more than 6 hrs (because, I have very stubborn greys) and it also depends on the quality of the indigo. I rinse until the water is clear, I sometimes use exfoliating gloves to ensure all the powder is off my scalp. I learned a lot from hennasooq and also Indian women because they've been doing Ayurveda for centuries. Hope this helps

      Madeline, you can still use your method, just add the 2nd step of applying indigo. If you have stubborn greys, this method works best. So basically the first step will darken the henna with the indigo and the 2nd step of just indigo will hopefully give you dark black.

      In order to get the most benefits from the herbs, the hair needs to washed/clarified of any buildup. Apply the henna, cover and let it sit for however long you’re going to. Then rinse it and do a couple of conditioner applications and rinses as well to get most of the henna out and your hair rinses mostly clear.
      If you’re concerned about tangles, then I recommend detangling and loose twisting the section prior to washing. You won’t be able to detangle with the henna because it’s going to clump your curls together. You could also detangle afterwards while you’re conditioning, but it’ll be easier to apply the henna to the roots on mostly detangled hair. That may not be important to you if you’re not doing a color touch up. To each their own.

    This looks lovely! How long does it last though? And does the touch up require the same process all over again?

      Hi! Henna is a permanent plant dye and over time the color will start to fade. It's very vibrant for about 6 weeks and you only have to touch up the gray new growth with henna and indigo after that time unless you just want to completely color all of your hair again but for me it hasn't been necessary. Thanks for commenting and for watching!

    How long did the whole process take? Did you do over 2 days?

    • @ReneeBarnettTV
      @ReneeBarnettTV  Рік тому +1

      The whole process took about 8 hours, 4 for the henna and 4 for the indigo but you can leave each on for as little as 2 hours each for a total of 4 hours, I normally have time to spare when I use both henna and indigo on the same day 😁

    I like the red tones. They are very faint. It looks good. You can barely see the red! I will do one not both. Beautiful!

    Have you ever tried adding the indigo directly to the henna? Just don’t want this to be an all day process😅

      Hi yes I have tried that, but for me i got the best color payoff doing it separately. But both ways work, combining the henna and indigo is less time consuming though. ☺️

    This is an all day process, thats the only annoying thing about it.

      It definitely is. Sometimes two days. But it's worth it.

    Be bold and confident 😀…….try embracing the gray. Love and accept yourself at each stage of life. Who says gray hair is unacceptable? Be who you are 👍🏾

      You can still be who you are and cover your grey hair at the same time.

    Because you have such little grey, you don’t need to do the indigo.
