I don't travel like I used to. Kuta, Lombok.

- Today I walk around the beach and fishing village of Kuta, Lombok where I meet a man building a sand bag wall in front of his home to protect the house from ocean waves. He also tells me a little of his fishing.
Another man waves me over to chat then relays the story of how local families are having to move homes as developers want to build on the land they’re occupying.
David is an Italian man with a prosthetic leg who used to live in Indonesia and is now visiting Lombok with his family. He conveys the effect visiting Indonesia had on him and why he has chosen to spend so much time here. He also explains what happened to him so that he now requires a prosthetic leg.
We also meet a local man who rents battery operated cars for children and he explains some of his business to us.
And finally Michael is a German man who needed to get away from the stresses of western living and was returning to Indonesia after traveling through a portion of it thirty years ago.

I get a bit annoyed when I hear creator's on YT say I need to find content when they get into monetisation. They have totally forgotten why they started creating in video editing, which is having fun making videos. I'm glad that you don't have that and it feels your love is still there in making videos and not worried about content.

I like that kind of Videos, no hurry, just walking and talking, it is really relaxing to watch. It is so sad, that the Goverment move the people away. I am not a fan of the big Hotels and Resorts. It takes away the soul from this beautiful Island.

My wife , daughter and myself stayed at Yulis homestay last July close to Kuta Lombok shops. Yuli was great, accomodation was very good ( about $70 for 3 of us)
We are booked in for about 7 days in July from NZ

I remember An beach and Kuta when there was only 1 warung and a couple of huts. A hotel chain had tried to buy up a huge parcel here but wouldn't play the game. The people we spoke to were very upset at this time. Some saw the advantages, others hated the idea. Mataram is the only area in SE Asia where I felt disturbed and unwelcome, in fact had things thrown at us in a market. There was a little eatery, high on the hill just around the corner from Singiggi, I can't remember the name, but the food and music was exceptional. Lovely memories.
It would be pretty devastating to have your livelihood taken away from you and there are a lot of people going to have to move from Ann soon it seems. it does sound like you've held onto your memories from past travels.

Selemat Malam, Wayne, even on cloudy days, the beach is fun & perhaps not as hot! Sayang about folks having 2 relocate, move to shacks on the beach & eke out a living, while tourists are seeking out adventures! Nothing like walking on a beach 2 recharge your soul! Didn't know about international airport opening in 2011? Enjoyed it all!
The cooler weather is definitely a bit of a nice change - I personally like the rainy season. I think it was in 2011 the airport opened and things slowly started to change. Thanks, liz.

Pity about the developers moving in. For now though it still looks peaceful and undeveloped so enjoy it while you can. Thankfully Indonesia has thousands of islands and thousands of beautiful beaches for us to enjoy if were a little adventurous. I still find many places in Bali that never see a tourist. Its a wonderful life.
I agree it's just a matter of stretching the travel legs a little as there are countless places in around to carve out a bit of nirvana for yourself.

I'm actually not sure. I think if they're camped on government land in the first place maybe not.

Indonesia hasn't the greatest track record in maritime safety but I've not had any problems. i haven't travelled out to Timor or Papua for a long time and any information I have would probably be outdated. That beach will be another tourist ghetto soon, with a"walking street", and a night market, full of overpriced seafood no one buys, and clothes that fall apart after the first wash.
It seems to be the way it's going.
