  • Dr. Rajpal Brar, DPT breaks down Cristiano Ronaldo’s - current Portugal international and Juventus superstar, former Real Madrid and Manchester United superstar - knuckleball free kick technique via his background in biomechanics, sports science, and youth football (soccer) coaching.
    Here’s a table of contents, header (sub-headings):
    - 0:00 Intro
    - 0:33 The setup (measuring steps, angle, rhythmic mannerisms, )
    - 1:45 The run-up and strike (run-up steps, why the vault step?, vertical displacement, torso, the strike)
    - 4:56 Always keep them guessing (varying up techniques)
    - 5:25 Recent struggles (full details in next video)
    For those at work or the hard of hearing, I've transcribed subtitles on UA-cam so sound isn't required.
    For reference, I’m a DPT and former youth soccer coach well-versed in sports science and biomechanics, with sports rehab & performance clinics in West LA and Valencia, CA, along with telehealth appointments online. Feel free to hit me with questions and/or you can always find me on my website or on social media:

      This is awesome stuff man! I'm personally on the journey to master the knuckleball... one thing I would have focused more on is analyzing what *part of the foot* he hits the ball with rather than just spending a few seconds saying "the instep"... would be more helpful to get into the anatomy bc it's such a crucial part in the process of generating no spin... for example, this video (ua-cam.com/video/5L4Z_JROOV0/v-deo.html) mentions how the kicker relies on his medial cuneiform

      @@liamllorin2360 Thanks for checking it out. The video is already 6 mins long and technical, you have to balance what you put in or don't. If I was making a video on how to hit a knuckleball, I would dive deeper into more detailed aspects of it. Further, not everyone uses the medial cuneiform to hit a knuckler - case in point is Juninho Pernambucano who used the 1st to 3rd metatarsals

    I was reading your article about his technic.
    I have to say that his torso movement and forward leaning, is fundamental in his accuracy.
    While I'm not really an expert, I was allways told that if you lean forward when you shoot, the ball wont "climb" so much. Thats what they used to teach kids here in Portugal. Thats my experience.
    Eusébio have a statue in Lisbon and he is shooting the ball leaning forward. 👍

    • @3cbperformance
      @3cbperformance  Рік тому +2

      It's not that binary but forward torso lean can help keep the ball and "rise" down as you said because it allows less of an upward rise on the ball

    I am close to mastering this. I am naturally powerfull shooter but with all these little tweaks I can shoot the ball straight like a laserbeam from half court with crazy speed and lateral movement, the ball comes out fast bc the net pretty much slings it back to me. Thats how much power and speed this tecnique can generate!

    Also one thing I noticed is that he doesn't swing his leg fully he gives a impulse to the ball just like a cowboy doesn't swing his hunter fully he just swings a little and stop for greater speed and effect

      Right - it's a quick strike contact to impart force into the ball without generating spin.

    he doesn t hit with that part of foot ,is a bit upper .......if you hit with that part ,most of times will get spin

    • @3cbperformance
      @3cbperformance  3 роки тому +1

      Depends on the follow through as well; if you're recoiling quickly, it limits the amount of prolonged contact with the ball which tends to lead to spin

    The conversion rate of the free kicks he takes with knuckleball technique is catastrophically low, so I'd recommend people to look up to him for everything but free kicks. He's too stubborn use curled free kicks instead of these and hence either shoots the ball right on to the keeper or to the sky

    • @3cbperformance
      @3cbperformance  Рік тому

      agreed

    • @visheshdeepgautam
      @visheshdeepgautam Рік тому

      Well that's probably cz he wants to establish a "style" of him... Just Like Stepovers... But in Important matches, recently, he has given free kicks to other players or either tried to curl it... If we see his conversion rate of Curl free kicks, that must be very high...
      If only he didn't try to be "this is my style" kind of... He would've had better success in past years... When he was young, focused and more agile, that worked quite well, and as to Long range free kicks, I still think Knuckleball is the best form of shooting technique... But again, As you come closer to the goal, it works mostly if you shoot to the side of the keeper and not the Wall... As You generate too much power, the ball doesn't dip quite early... There has to be a balance in that too... If you want to shoot to the wall side.
      I think Johan Cryuff was right on every aspect of the game and hence whoever followed that got consistent and better results.
