Speaking Japanese TOO well is a problem. Gaijin speaking a little Japanese and bowing awkwardly is like a trained bear in the circus riding a little bicycle around the ring - it's cute and funny. But if the bear wins the Tour de France, people get uncomfortable.
1) No, I found that speaking better Japanese makes it easier to communicate, if you know what to say. 2) Yes, word play jokes and ダジャレ are popular here, sometimes corny but great ice breakers. 3) Sort of, knowing a lot can be helpful, just don't act like a know-it-all. 4) Extra tips: be in reasonably good shape and well-groomed/dressed, be a confident yet somewhat indifferent gentleman, classic "ladies first" behavior with an abundance mindset, don't come off as a desperate simp or Weeb.
My advice is just pay for it. Try the pink salon in Kawasaki that caters to foreigners. They speak enough English to explain the rules. The young women are sexy and accommodating. Not exactly a GFE but well worth the $$$.

The loss of an accent works both ways, when Japanese master english, they completely sound like a completely different person, more mature sounding pitch of the voice. In few exceptions do Japanese sound younger when speaking english. In some cases an accent helps not just to identity Japanese, but it just compliments their tone more (Maybe that's racist?) I've definitely seen cases where not just Japanese, but all types of Asian women who mastered fluent speaking english tend to loose their cute side because of it. Why do you think it's always gaijin men that have yellow fever seek out Japanese girls, but no gaijin women seeking out Japanese men?
