Tarnished wins because Elden rings cosmology is higher than anything else.
    1. Queen marika literally had eternal life - Something Lord Gwynn was desperate for.

Most people would follow the same path and point the tarnish one as the strongest one, based on the powerful enemies that he slains. But...the tarnished one slains demi gods...like semi gods. The hunter slains great ones...like real gods. Mergo, Orphan of Kos and Moon presence are gods (This last one is hugely powerful. Created a entire reality to us, the hunter dream). . In ER ending we became Elden Lord, like a demi god too. But in BB ending (One of the endings) we became a great one, a god that substitutes the moon presence. The distance of power between a great one and a demigod is huge. The great ones can exists in different dimensions, such as the physical reality and the dream/mental state dimension (Not necessarily simultaneously. So they can die on the physical reality and still existing in other dimensions). And they can bring and arrest anyone they want in those dreams (Scary stuff). You dont see nothing close to that in Elden Ring (Goldwyn is stuck on his own dream and, so far, there is no evidence of him controlling it or influencing things from that in such scale). Even the body parts and blood of the great ones makes people ascend and transform. You dont see Radahhn and Radagon blood making this kind of effect. If one day the outer gods reveal themselves to us and we manage to kill those i would put the tarnished one as the top one. Until that, no one is even close to the BB hunter...the hunter of real gods that became a god.

The Crown bearing kings had lord souls
The Slumbering dragon is a descendant of the Archdragons(or is one I can’t remember, but definitely related)
Fume knight (nuff said, I mean his sword said he had the power to beat a fragment of manus and he harnessed part of her soul)
Smelter demon is stated to have the power to defeat one bearing a lord soul and destroy his castle in one swing of their sword.
And Giant Lord is comparable to prime Vendrick who held the lord souls.
I think this puts DS2 Protagonist below DS1 and DS3 but still in a similar power bracket (burnt ivory king was weakened but if he was in his prime I’d but the strength DS3 then DS2 then DS1 as he did something even gwyn failed to do)

The Giant Lord is weird as he was really very weak, in story he was beaten by an unknown fighter (later revealed to be the protag going in the past), but protag beat the Giant Lord before fighting Zombie Vendrick which is far from his prime, they don't really seem equal based on that since Zombie Vendrick with no equipment nor sanity would break him in half
Tbf Gwyn is either subborn or idiot (depend on the POV) he used his own soul to link the fire the longer he could instead of finding any solution leading to his child and knights (apart frmo Gwendolin and Smough) leaving Anor Londo to do their own thing, in that aspect even Aldia is more impressive than him because he found a way around it and seem to be truly immortal (even tho he have a monstruous body in the process)
Tho that's an interesting discussion ngl, it's somewhat hard to separe gameplay to lore, biggest example being Priscilla who have Dragon ancestry and a weapon that make the gods shiver, but is actually really easy to beat (if one is cruel enough to actually attack her)

If we count in lore, ending(s) and feats then from Strongest to Weakest:
    1. The Good hunter - If we go with the 3rd ending they ascend and becomes an infant eldrich being with the only downside is that they might carry the curse that the Old Ones are trying to break.
    2. The Bearer of the Curse - If we go with the 2nd ending, they refuse to lit or extinguish the first flame, instead they go on a journey accompanied by Aldia (arguably the smartest mad scientist in Dark Souls lore) with The Crown of Kings that nullifies the spreading and the downsides of Hollowficiation until they can find a cure, essentially making The Bearer immortal without the danger of losing their mind overtime due to the curse. And because there is no cure to the curse and if we go with the assumption that the The Bearer will never take off the crown, then they won't be able to die at the eventual end of the world due to them being stuck as a Hollow. Basically granting them an indefinite amount of time to get stronger throughout the world cycles.
    3. The Tarnished - [Only reason I'm placing them behind the Bearer of the Curse is that they are unable to take the souls of their fallen foes.] Immortal, no chances of losing their minds, technically immune to death as well because of the rune of death. If we go with the Ranni ending we have a powerful witch on our side and both the Tarnished and Rann will be under the servitude of an Outer God.
    4. The Ashen One - Immortal but the end of the cycle is inevitable at this point. It doesn't matter if they become the Lord of Hollows, it will just extend their time a little bit. The First Flame will fade, the Age of Dark and Man will come to be and after that the world will end, bringing an end to everything so the cycle of the world can start anew.
    5. The Chosen Undead - In the 1st ending they sacrifice themselves to The First Flame and in the 2nd they will embrace the dark and bringing the Age of Dark and Men but after that, the world will end, bringing an end to everything so the cycle of the world can start anew. (not the cycle or rekindling The First Flame)
    6. The Slayer of Demons - If we go with the 2nd ending.
    7. Sekiro - A dangerous and highly skilled assassin with the least impressive feats, even if said feats are probably the 2nd coolest out of all protags.

      The "true" ending is debatable.
The devs themselves never said that is the true ending and everyone just wants to assume.
Even on the web, it's between the sunrise of Yharnam or the childhood beginnings of which players assume are the true endings.
It's never been called by the devs, the true ending.
It makes sense in a soulsborne game to not have a happy ending and the childhood beginnings is the best case scenario so likely not the true ending.
Also the hunter had the intention to escape the dream not become a God nor could they even know they could do it.
You have to go out of your way for the umbilical cords besides like one you get after murgos wet nurse fight.
Mind you it's not that I don't agree with your logic and that the hunter is the strongest protagonist, I just don't believe that is the true ending in bloodborne bc there is no definitive proof.

For those still confused on whether the Tarnished is strongest because bloodborne’s various cosmic entities-
    Spoilers for ELDEN RING DLC-
Malenia alone was able to crop dust and permanently alter a continent’s environment. She’s also got so much more potential, as she’s constantly fighting the scarlet rot outer god for control of herself.
And Malenia is only an demigod, but she’s hitting continental crop dusting, but then we have the likes of Marika/Radagon, who is a god, and the Elden beast, who is the vessel of the outer god.
But who do I scale above all of them? Metyr, who was the will of the greater will and was often spoken into/ through? To do their bidding. But, enough about the background, it’s all about the strength. Metyr easily creates a microcosm, which is a small universe. She has her own pocket dimension, and she even returns to said pocket dimension upon being defeated. So that takes the feats of the cosmic entities in bloodborne and tells them to sit down effectively.

Going off of genre conventions, the Good Hunter is unquestionably one of if not the strongest Souls protagonist, because
1: they outright defy Cosmic Horror tropes by fighting and *winning* against things which Ito and Lovecraft would claim cannot be meaningfully delayed, let alone outright killed.
2: they actually affect meaningful change by breaking *multiple* curse cycles, *without* ushering in an apocalypse. This is so far ahead of anything the Dark Souls PCs ever managed to accomplish that those losers don't even bear mentioning next to the Good Hunter, and it wouldn't be until Sekiro that another Fromsoft PC could match that level of personal significance and agency in the larger setting.

Okay, I’m pretty biased towards Elden Ring, and I am not a big fan of Bloodborne, but I’m gonna try to be as objective as possible
I’ve also only played three Souls games so far, so I’ll just rank four characters
In first place, as most powerful, is a tough one, I narrowed it down to either the Chosen Undead from DS1 or the Ashen One from DS3, this is because of the First Flame. I’ve never really seen nor heard the First Flame explained outside of the game, until Death Battle did Chosen Undead Vs Last Dragonborn (go watch it, the fight is fucking awesome) and in that video, they explained that the First Flame’s ignition was likely something akin to a Big Bang, and that it was responsible for all concepts in the universe, which adds up, since in the opening cutscene, it was said that the First Flame was responsible for concepts like life and death, light and dark, you get the picture. But the reason this is a tough choice is because the Chosen Undead’s soul alone was able to withstand the First Flame’s power for around 1’000 years, but they could go Hollow. On the other hand, while the Ashen One’s soul could withstand the First Flame’s power for a while, it wasn’t as long as the Chosen Undead, BUT the Ashen One CAN’T go Hollow. Ultimately I give first place to the Chosen Undead and second place to the Ashen One
Moving on to third place, time for a hot take. Throughout Bloodborne, it’s no secret that we see the Great Ones are powerful, that’s not in question, but we never see anything too large scale, outside of Oedon becoming one with the universe itself, and while that feat SOUNDS like an unquestionable feat of power, we still have no clue what he can or cannot do, since we never see him doing ANYTHING after becoming one with everything, he doesn’t even influence events, and that doesn’t matter anyway, since the Hunter never fights him anyway. The strongest being the Hunter fights is the Moon Presence, right before they ascend to the level of THOUGHT of a Great One. I’m also gonna get this one out of the way; not once is it so much as IMPLIED that the Great Ones are Outer Gods, they are their own thing, and while they do display power, it’s nothing all that impressive
    ON THE OTHER HAND
The Tarnished of no Renown has defeated the Demigods, Demigods whose power is not questionable, as they frequently show themselves at their best throughout the lore, and while the Great Ones’ power can be questionable at times, due to the primary focus being on their influence and dreams, the Demigods and Elden Beast are focused more towards power and stars
And given the fact that the Tarnished destroys a star, MULTIPLE STARS IN FACT (you can kill Overworld Astels and the two separate Astel bosses), that level of power cannot be ignored, nor can Radahn’s feat of holding all the stars in place, nor can Malenia’s own ascension to Godhood in her boss fight, nor can Maliketh wielding what is essentially weaponized DEATH itself, nor can the Elden Beast, STILL BEING MORE POWERFUL THAN ALL OF THEM, I CAN KEEP GOING
Not to mention the Tarnished having access to Great Runes that, while only a fraction of godlike power, can still resist the effects of Outer Gods’ powers, and a weapon that bends time to slay gods
So few feats of actual raw POWER in Bloodborne, while Elden Ring overflows with them
I give third place to the Tarnished of No Renown, and fourth will go to the Hunter

And your main problem here is looking to death battle for lore accurate feats. That channel is only good for cool looking fight animations they do, cuz man they know NOTHING about lore and they mess it up a lot. Literally in the opening cutscene it is made explicitly clear that the first flame is not the origin of everything. Dragons predated it along with an entire world they inhabited. The reason those concepts came into the world is not because they didn’t “exist” but because there was no mortal creatures, nor any variance in temperature across the already created world, etc. The flame produced heat, automatically making it hot and everything else cold. It like the sun sustains mortal life, thus helping to bring life and death into this world. This does not make it akin to the Big Bang, it gives it the functional role of the sun, but not even equivalent size or force of the sun (otherwise the world would’ve instantly died upon the flame’s appearance). On the other hand you have the ashen one, who in the main game alone pulls off a greater feat than any of the chosen’s: killing the soul of cinder. That includes any and all who held the flame before the ashen one including the chosen undead. Also, 1) the ashen one can indeed go hollow and 2) we never get to see how long the ashen one holds the flame for as there isn’t any follow up game. What there is however is the dlc, which is important to note. At the end of the world, Gael has assembled the dark soul of man, one of the original 4 lord souls derived from the pigmy’s. He got it by eating basically all of the pigmy’s. We can infer one of two things from his boss fight cutscene: 1) all living humans (and maybe everything else too since no other life remains?) contain a portion of the dark soul as he wants you to “hand it over”, and in order to assemble it Gael had to wipe out all humanity himself or 2) Gael is insane and thinks you’re a pigmy. Since Gael still recognizes you the former is probably true, but regardless this lord soul is used to create a painted world that will never rot and fade. In other words it’s a dimension creation feat, though it isn’t performed by the ashen one so hard to say how close he scales. Regardless, no one else other than the hunter from blood borne is anywhere close to this feat so these two should be close to the strongest lore wise.
Tho elden beast lore is actually insane, cuz when you dig into elden ring lore you realize the erdtree was not originally part of the world and was sent by an outer god to basically completely hijack everything (hence the elden beast to keep watch over it and protect it). Its not exactly clear how powerful the elden beast is nor the one who sent it, but it is supposed to be stronger than radhan or malenia, one of whom was so strong he held back the entire cosmos which is getting into realistically galaxy level feats and malenia who achieved a pseudo godhood, so it’s safe to say the tarnished is around comparable strength if not greater since the dimensions created in blood borne and painted worlds are not guaranteed to be at a scale greater than a planet

@@Rl55322I see, I’ll admit Death Battle has a history of messing up lore, so yeah, not too reliable a source, it did sound convincing though, especially since the Big Bang was once just something as small as an atom, but it instantly expanded into something as large as a universe, that’s not to say nothing came before it, so there came the reason for the whole “mythological big bang” idea
Still, you are right that Death Battle is a questionable source at best

@@logeyperogi1805 No, CU can't be the most powerful, like what concepts of life and death? That is never said, and also everything that the Chosen Undead has faced was in complete decay, and all of his power is linked to the Flame, if the Flame ever goes out, goodbye for him, he deserves fourth place, he is in third place, why? because if we go to the end of absorbing the Flame, what Ashen One has is nothing more than a fraction of its power, so this makes him minimally powerful but still the most powerful protagonist of the Dark Souls trilogy.
Ashen One is more powerful than him, for the simple fact of having defeated the Soul of Ashes which was the union of the ancient lords who linked the Flame, and therefore SoC has the power of all of them, including that of the Bearer of the Curse and The Chosen Undead, and Ashen One defeats him.
The Hunter is in second place, as the UA-cam guy said, Hunter literally faces things that normal people cannot understand or even see, the Great Ones, beings capable of creating planes of existence or manipulating reality, creating curses , they can drive anyone to madness just by showing their true form, what's more you can't say that they are not powerful when they can destroy anyone with a look, like Moon Presence does, or Amygdala, as for Oedon, he may have transcended at a higher level of divinity, that is why he has no form, however I do not think he is limited, since he was able to impregnate Yarhnam and conceive a son, if he does not intervene in human things it is because he does not want to, you know, In Lovecraft, for these deities, humans are insignificant and irrelevant that they do not care at all.
The Hunter by absorbing so much lucidity and acquiring so much knowledge, his level of insight is such that he was able to ascend to a higher plane of thought and transcend the human mind completely and finally become a Great One and since Great Ones can also ascend to a higher level of divinity like Oedon did, Hunter has quite a bit of potential.
The Tarnished is the most powerful of all the protagonists without a doubt, man, he defeated all the most powerful Demigods like Radahn who was able to hold the stars thanks to his gravitational power, Malenia who has the power of an Outer God, the Scarlet Rot, and was able to wipe out an entire continent, Mogh who has the power of the Formless Mother, Morgott, Godfrey, defeated Maliketh who carried the Rune of Destined Death, in addition to defeating the ancient bearers of the Rune, Tarnished defeated gods like Radagon, he also defeated Placidusax who transcends space and time, and Tarnished also escaped time to reach him and defeated Elden Beast, which in the description of his rune literally explains that it was the physical embodiment and the concept of Order.
And if that were not enough, Tarnished has the power of the Frenzied Flame, which is also an Outer God and who will cause the destruction of the world.
The Tarnished and The Hunter would be the most powerful, because come on, they're the only ones who faced truly powerful enemies in their prime and they're also the only ones who truly transcend their humanity and become gods in essence.

@@Rl55322 The Age of Ancients was explicitly the state of the world in which everything was formless. It's not reality as it actually predated everything that came with the First Flame, which includes light and dark. In Dark Souls these aren't just of elemental nature but rather are more metaphysical, as with light time came to exist, and we know that it can also manipulate and warp fundamental laws of reality. On the other hand, dark is practically nonexistence and unreality, even stated constantly through the franchise that the power of dark would leave the world in nothingness and erase everything of the Age of Fire
There are also the parallel worlds that came with the First Flame, which were converging at the moment the fire started to dissipate. So again there are several proofs that shows the First Flame indeed created everything in Dark Souls. Nah telling sekiro is a fraud is nah bro. In the shura ending he became a immortal demon which is destroyed whole land (and prob destroyed world). He has 2 mortal blades that can kill everything and more weapon. You need a mortal blade or stupid hax like that to kill him. His reaction speed is insane and he can manipulate fire too. İn my oppion he is in the 4-3th place.

My personal theory for the dark souls trilogy is that the player characters are all the same person just years and years apart, it is established in the lore that you can lose power and become weaker over time just as you can become stronger and the dark sign would keep them alive until the curse was lifted permanently.

Wolf has unlimited stamina, can break a target’s poise just by blocking, all his critical hits are insta kills for anything that doesn’t have a second life at the ready, he has actual skill with a blade, and has counters to any type of weapon all the others can wield. He ain’t first but he shouldn’t be that close to last. Considering that the others need stamina to do anything and he can eat away at their stamina at will.

All that armor makes them sink like a rock so it makes sense. Wolf can actually swim and he never runs out of air. Bruh, we are comparing videogame characters. The nameless undead from all the souls games may be physically stronger but they are all just as fast as wolf but wolf can go for longer. If they try a jump attack they’ve already lost because wolf can insta kill in the air. Their heaviest attack would deflect off the umbrella shield and not even hurt wolf. He may not be the strongest but he shouldn’t have been dead last. Most of the undead’s miracles are lightning based attacks as well. Wolf can send that shit right back at them with a paralyzing effect.

I’d put wolf just one spot higher.
Reasoning he has more agility than any of the other protagonist’s and can even mount his bosses to get closer to higher weak spots.(he can deflect fire with a tool he has like a metal umbrella, or just run around or jump over as seen in the games)
His only main limitation is that he is just a human with multiple lives and a arsenal of ninjutsu but a damn skilled one.
Enough said bloodborne hunter wins in drip and blunderbuss parries all protagonists.

If we're talking in terms of outcome then Demon Souls bro might actually be number 2 (or num 1 if tarnished picked frenzied flame ending) as he actually saved the entire world by lulling the old one back to sleep. All of the other game protags only resolved local conflicts in their city (Yharnam) or country region (Ashina), or ultimately saved nothing and the world still burned (souls).

I do think Wolf wins strength wise. He is completely capable of parrying air pressure waves from the Divine Dragon and the Giant Serpent. Far as I recall, no other character is able to parry something that large. Pretty sure he'd be able to beat all characters based on skill alone, as he is by far more skilled than any other FromSoft character

since lot of people have their own in the comments, here is my own list from strongest to weakest :
    first : the good hunter
kind of obvious since they kill great ones, eldritch beings that are so powerful that gazing upon them break the mind, adding to that the fact that the moon presence is the ONLY boss in All the souls-game that requiert to be on the same level of existence before even having the chance to try and kill her ( and by the way, personal theory but I think the moon presence wanted us to kill her ) no other boss in All the souls-game
insta-beat you in a cutscene like the moon presence does, not one, wich should be telling enough on the level of power displayed here
    second : the tarnished
of course the second place can only belong to one protagonist, the tarnished killed radhann who, even deeply weakened, could hold the stars with his magic ( although one could argue that it made him that much weaker since his focus and magic went to such cosmic task instead of fighting ) killed astel the malformed star ( even if we really lowball this saying astel losed a majority of it's star power by crashing down in the land between because of radhann influence over it and its kin and thus wasn't at full power it's still a civilisation destroying foe )
tanked malenia scarlet aeonia ( which easily scale to country level as we see in game ) and resisted her goddess of rot form ( while radhann losed his sanity against a less potent concentration of scarlet rot ) fused with destined death wich make them an anti-immortal being capable of killing ( wounded ) gods
because yes, as much as it's true that the tarnished killed a god, said god wasn't in it's prime being deeply wounded and at the figurative end of it's rope be it physically or even metaphysically, it's influence weakened enough that other outer god could come out to play in the land between
I also does not count the tarnished at the end of the frenzied flame questline to be the tarnished but the frenzied flame itself, as ego the the first thing the flame wish to erase
third : the bearer of the curse
now it may be controversial but I think they are the perfect balance between power skill and knowledge of the three dark souls protagonist they may also have aldia knowledge and powet at their back, in this case it's a no brainer, the chosen undead may have more raw power considering they come from a less weakened by rot point in the timeline but I think the bearer of the curse just has enough experience and skill to win on the long run considering they will not go hollow but the chosen undead will
    fourth : chosen undead
I think the chosen undead is the protagonist who got the more raw power out of all the three dark souls protagonist but the less skill overall compared to the other two, I thing the ashen one still would have enough chance to beat them but not reliably enough that I would call them better than the chosen undead
    fifth : ashen one
I think it's the most debatable one depending on wich angle you take their feat, on one hand it's clear enough that souls get less and less powerfull as time goes on and the first flame get weaker, the best example of this decay being gwyn himself who go from strongest being in the verse to a shadow of it's prime, hence why I think the soul of cinder doesn't add up to the level of power people assume it has, the fact it's the amalgamation of every lord of cinder doesn't mean said lord of cinder didn't have their souls power decaying through the age like gwyn powers did although one thing certain is that the soul of cinder is practically the most skilled opponent in the verse due to the combined knowledge of all the lord of cinders second only to the ashen one who bested them, wich make the ashen one the most skilled out of the three protagonist of the trilogy
on the other hand however, they also kill an archdragon ( midir ) and the wielder of the almost complete dark soul ( gael ) so their feat of strenght doesn't really add up to the era of decay they are from wich make them the trickiest to class out of all the souls-born protagonist
sixth ( or seventh ) : slayer of demons
kind of easy compared to the one above, they can't kill the dragon god by themselve, wich even if we highball it hard would make it on the level of seath or even kalameet and midir but without their transcendentale nature toward life and death, pointless anyway since the slayer can't kill it on their own power making them de facto weaker than the dark souls protagonist who have killed beings on that tier of strenght without needing any ancient machinery
they also can't kill the old one wich nature seems to be, if not exactly on par with the outer gods and great ones, at least similar enough given it's role in the narrative as this instoppable godlike being, so they'r certainly not on the level of the tarnished let alone the good hunter
adding to that the fact that most of the boss they face are gimmick boss that need to be killed and/ord hurt a certain way and you have the second ( but arguably first ) weakest souls-games protagonist
seventh ( or sixth ) : one armed wolf
the reason why I put wolf at last place is because he is technically the weakest of them all in raw power simply because he is supposed to be the most grounded ( at default of being the most realistic ) of all the protagonist, he is supposed to feel the most fragile, hence why the parry mechanic is as much important gameplay wise as lore wise, wolf real strenght is his skill above all else so while I think he is the most lacking in raw power and resistence ( as shown on his fight against the armored knight ) I still think he would beat the slayer of demon at least seven times out of ten out of raw skill and speed ( and ten out of ten if he become shura, the power boost isn't shown but I think it would be enough to wipe the floor with the slayer of demons ) adding to that the fact wolf can kill immortals beings because of his red blade and I think he got the edge the power gap between him and the slayer of demons not being large enought that he couldn't pull out the singular win he need
I personally think he rank sixth because he only need to win once wich is not the case for the slayer of demons, but it can still be argued that he is the weakest protagonist out of all of them still

The tarnished kills the vessel of an outer god but to be honest the hunter kills at least 2 or 3 true great ones which are equivalent to outer gods (not vessels but plain outer gods). Also at the end if you kill moon presence you even become a great one making the hunter essentially a god. And he ends up doing all that just because a hoonter must hoont
