Tina never knew what it was like to have a truly normal family. Ever since she was young, for as long as she can remember, she had a dad who was never there for her.
She has a wonderful and amazing mother, who has always been there to comfort and support and love her, but she simply can't say the same for her father. Her dad drank too much, and it was a real problem that has caused a lot of pain and done a lot of damage.
Having a dad with that kind of problem made it so that she could never act or feel normal, or do the typical things that kids do - like having friends over, because she was always nervous that her father would embarrass her, or being out and doing things that a lot of her friends got to do with their dads.
She was often jealous of her friends because they had dads who were there for them, who were a part of their lives, and her dad was rarely a part of hers. He was hardly ever home, and when he was home he wasn't in his right state of mind.
And even when he was in a "good" state of mind, he shut Tina, and her sister and mother out of his life. He would jus stay in his room watching tv or playing video games almost all of the time that he spent at home. It got to the point where she felt like she had been replaced by his gaming computer. This really hurt her and gave her low self-esteem because it made her feel so unimportant.
The way her dad acted and the way he was toward her, broke her down. Most days she was afraid and unhappy to come home because she knew she was just returning to a torn and broken family.
One night she was sitting at the kitchen table doing her homework while her Mom cooked dinner, and they suddenly heard her Dad teasing her little sister upstairs. His words were slurred and he was yelling.
But then a surprising thing happened, her little sister obviously couldn't take it anymore and she screamed at him to stop, screamed that she knew he had been drinking. Tina and her Mom were in absolute shock that her little sister had stood up to him. No one had ever done that before.
That's when her Dad really blew up - he yelled back at her little sister and accused their Mom of telling lies and turning them against him. He stomped downstairs and yelled nasty things at her Mom, then took a glass bowl and smashed it on the floor - looked coldly and angrily at Clementine - and stormed up to his room.
After that they all just stayed out of his way and he avoided them, for the most part.
But, a few years later he was taken to the police station. He had never physically hurt Tina or her sister but he had been so mean for so long, and said so many awful and damaging things, that by the time he was arrested she actually felt a huge sense of relief watching him being driven away by the police.
After he got out and had spent a month living with his own father (Tina's Grandfather, Grandpa) he came back home, and promised he was better and would be a good dad again. But that didn't last very long, and soon enough he was at it again.
This time though Tina felt stronger and she began to stand up to him when he was at his worst. She told him "This isn't okay and I would really appreciate it if you would try to quit!" But he didn't listen, and those few months after he came home were some of the hardest times of her life.
Then one day, her Mom had finally had enough and she kicked him out, right then and there, and then filed for a divorce. Tina thought to herself, my Dad was never there for me.
Mom and Dad divorced, and her Mother did all the parenting, and Tina has been slowly recovering, and, though it has taken months and months, now she knows and truly feels how important she really is, and that she matters, to her Mother, and her sister, and her friends. Now she could have a better life.

My dad was an alcoholic and he passed away when I was five. When he was alive he had to take care of me while my mom was working. He would always pass out/go to sleep (either one) and I would get frustrated sometimes because I didn’t know how to take care of myself. My mom would leave me little activities to do everyday.(I forgot to mention I was pretty poor) My mom would feel so scared to leave me with my dad but we didn’t know anyone who can babysit me. Once he died we moved in with my grandma for 2 years. (I was 6 and 7) Luckily my grandma was super sweet and didn’t make us pay to live there or for really anything. My mom got her masters degree and got a promotion for working a lot. So now that I’m 11 we’ve had a new house that my mom customized, an amazing step dad, and an adorable little sister. I’m not trying to brag or anything but now my mom has way more money than before. I just wanted to say that if you’re going through something like this just keep working hard and something good will come your way even if it feels impossible. I can totally relate to how this girl feels. My dad was very abusive to my mom for sixteen years and they got divorced four years ago after my grandpa’s funeral. I am the middle child and my dad would always blame things on me because of it. One weekend I was in a fight with my sisters and my dad just snapped. He physically abused me, and the worst part was that my sisters were in the same room with me and they just watched my dad beat and almost suffocate me. I didn’t say anything to my mom because I was scared she wouldn’t believe me. A few weeks went by and she reminded us it was my dads weekend. I finally got the courage to tell her what happened and CPS was called. I haven’t visited my dad in 3 years. Well, I only come over to his place for Christmas but that’s about it. I still love my dad a lot, but he refuses to get help. I hope my dad can change his mind and get the help he needs, because he’s hurt my family, and himself.

My dad is the same way! He is one of the greatest people I ever knew, but he is rarely home. My mom and siblings talk poorly of him when he’s not home, but I love him more than anyone. My older brother had taunted me saying “Mom and Dad are gonna divorce” but I tell him it’s not true, even though at any moment my mom could write the papers. My dad was in the military for most of my life, so my mom raised all of us on her own, making money off of teaching. When my dad is home, he makes sure to spend time with all of us, though every night he’s home, he kisses me goodnight, and he’s gone the next morning.
Why do they talk poorly about him? If you don't mind me asking. He seems pretty great.

I know how it feels like, I never got to see my dad. He died when I was 2 years old. I mean I got to see him but I don't remember him cause I was a baby. I have a picture of me, him, and my mom at the park before he died. As I got older, I realised he wasn't there anymore. I was confused. I missed him. He used to sing a song to me everyone night. I missed that. I still cry sometimes if I think about how life would be life he still was here, he did drugs, he fought with my grandma and grandpa often, thats what they said. But I love it just how it is cause I know people are there for me no matter what! Also, I have my grandpa, who is like a dad to me. My mom doesn't live with me so I live with my grandma and grandpa, other grandma, uncle, and 3 pets. I realised that life soon gets better. I realised I will soon get to see my dad again in Heaven in a long time.

I barely even know my dad.I’m 13,the last time i saw him was like when i was 4 or 5.He didn’t even once call and say,”Hey,how are you?”.Nor did he even buy me any birthday/Christmas presents.The truth is,I really don’t care about the gifts.All i wanted was a daddy...who called me his “little girl”.Last year,I wanted to get to know him better so i told my mom i wanted to go see him.When we knocked on the door,his mom(aka my grandma) opened the door.She said,”He’s dead”.Those words hit me like a bus.The pain i felt was tremendous and i couldn’t even speak or do anything but cry.It was like i was buried underground and no one heard me.We were 2 months late from seeing him,before he passed.For those without a father figure,you’re not alone.

I have had a similar childhood, but the differences are that my dad would hurt my mum sometimes, he’d sell everything, he would be out almost every night, and did nothing for me or my mum whatsoever. He had a mental illness, and still does. It causes him to think like nobody else, to lie, to think everything should go his was and follow his plan. He did cheat on my mum, that’s for certain, but I don’t know how many times. My dad influenced me a lot, because I was living with him when I was in primary school, but the arguments I experienced when I was living with him eventually led to me threatening somebody in year six, somebody that I was ARGUING with. My mum gave birth to another girl, but while pregnant with my sister she went through a lot of stress, didn’t eat much, and constantly argued with my dad, meaning that my sister heard it all and felt what my mum was feeling. When she was born, my mum was invited on a lady’s night out for 3 hours or so, but when she was out my dad got angry with my sister, putting her in a carseat on the bed while he practically threw her cot down the stairs, breaking some of it apart afterwards. I ran into my room, and hid in a corner, crying, but then my dad stormed up the stairs, noticed, and said to me ‘It’s alright, you don’t need to cry.’ I remember it so clearly, even though I want to forget it.. Anyways, my dad used to always demand weed, because he smokes it and never stops. Now, I’m moving into year eight, while he’s homeless, living in shelters and then getting kicked out because he’s caused argument after argument. My self esteem and confidence eventually got so low in year five that I had to have a mentor, to take my mind off of family problems and to ease stress in general. It’s been over a year, but I just can’t forget about him and it causes me to get emotional often. It breaks my heart, knowing that he doesn’t care about me as I care about him..
(If you experience similar things at home, or at least things that are affecting you in some way, don’t be afraid to talk to somebody about it, because you’re beautiful, and worth it. Cherish every second that you are alive for, and remember that I love you, whoever is reading this.)

I was brought up by my 2 uncles who are 63 and 81 and we are German and my older brother lives with me and my uncles too we speak English but with a German tone on it. My dad died when I was six years old and I am still recovering, and when you said the part where your friends had great dads that would would spend time with them and things like that, I feel the same way even today. And the way my dad died was because... well he decided to do bad decisions in life, like smoking and drinking

I can understand this becoz I too had a similar dad.. he was not a alcoholic person neither had any bad habits...but he was never there for me.. he just married my mom as a formality never cared for her and after I was born he wasn't there to see me as he was just roaming, lazy person who didn't wanted to work for his wife and daughter and just wanted to enjoy his life... I'm all here becoz of mom.... she soon realized that this person is just a trouble in our life and broke all knots and gave me freedom from a selfish person and works hard to give me a better life... I ❤u mom...and I'll surely reach the position where my mom wants me and even if that greedy man ever tries to enter in our lives I woUld kick him out becoz for me there is no one so called father.. my mom is both for me.........sorry for extending I know it's too much to read but I feel so relevied right now after sharing this heavy secret of my life.

I can't imagine this, but I'm thankful that I had a perfect dad. Yeah, he had some anger issues and depression. I also heard my parents fight a lot. My mom thought my dad was cheating on her and vise versa. Then he went to the hospital, and went into cardiac arrest. He recovered, but was put on hospice care. Less than a week after he died. I was heartbroken. This was a few weeks ago, and I'm still in denial a bit. I am 12 years old, and I just want to say that spend as much time as you can. My dad will not be there when I turn of age, and he won't be there to walk me down the Isle when it comes to it, and that's hard, but try to have a good relationship with your family because you may not know how long it may last. I don't want anyone to have to suffer the pain and grief that I went through. I spent most of my time in my room with headphones because I didn't want to hear my dad yell or my mom tell too. That, I regret. There are many things I regret not saying to my dad, but I wish I could tell him I love him one more time. Please whatever the circumstances, tell your parents that you love them everyday because one day you might be on your own without them, and that is a kind of pain that you may never fully recover from. Also if they smoke tell em to stop because that had a factor in my dad's death

sorry for you're loss I'm also 12 years old and it is hard I even though my dad is OK my grandma was all it meant I was heartbroken when she died last year even though I couldn't see her in real life 3 days before she died I called her she doesn't remember me as I have 6 siblings and she hasn't seen me face to face but pictures of me trust I know how it feel I had cryed for days I hid my emotional from my mom because of every thing I say or my sibling say she would start crying all over again .rest in peace our loved ones 💙💖💕💕✨

This is like scarily similar to what my situation used to be.
My dad was a strong alcoholic and abused me, my mom, and my 3 other siblings. I remember being 10 and crying in my room because my dad yelled at the top of his lungs or he hit me a little too hard this time. He was on top of my mom, punching her chest while she was screaming. I could write a novel about everything that happened, but I’m pretty sure you don’t wanna read a whole novel lol. These types of videos always hit close to home, but this one bring back real memories. They’re divorced now and I’m in a much better place than I was a year ago. I have an amazing step dad who makes up for the past 13 years of tyranny. Don’t let up, because there’s always a ray of light at the end of the dark road.

I also had a dad that was never there for me. For a few years,he was,but by the time I was 4 years old,he left me. I didn't know that at the time. When I was 17 years old,during the summer of my junior going into senior year,he asked me if he could have an invitation to my graduation. When I told my mom about it,she said that my father wasn't meant to be a father. That night,in the car,I cried when I realized that all my life,I grew up without a father figure. I have had a lot of father figures growing up and so has my brother. I hope that when I get a boyfriend someday that he'll never leave me after being with me for 2 years just like my dad did.

My dad was never abusive. But he left with no explanation. My mom and brother caught him with this lady one day and I never believed them until my friends started saying they saw the same thing. He and my mom may be apart now but it still hurts. I ask myself everyday why he would just leave me when in the past, he would visit from work, and he even went to England just so we could have money. So I'm wondering what changed, and if it was my fault for being a terrible child.. Or my brother for being annoying. I wouldn't dare stand up to him for some reason, I just can't help but love him still.

I have a different story. My dad always cared for me sometimes.....today 11 august 2018 this morning....my dad scoled me for no reason he said that im evil and that if i hangs out with kids they always get into fight and i always makes a mistake. It tore me apart. I have a little brother and he's always with me and my sister. sometimes i got into fight with him cause he always ask me for phone but my sister told me to say no so i did and out of nowhere he hit me in my lower back and also in my face yes he has a very strong arm and it hurt me and then my dad came to us and said "whats going on here?" Them my sister told him that we get into a fight and then he always scold me for no reason but i take it since im older but it keeps happening and yes my sister is a lot more older than me. One time i scold her cause she kicks my little brother and of course he cried so i scolded her but she kicked me VERY HARD IN THE STOMACH. I of course cried so my mom came to me and i told her what happened and she scolded my sister but my sister starts telling lies to her and of course my mom believed her cause she's older and she's everyone's favorite so my mom scolded me so hard up until now i just wanted to die it keeps happening it just that im always get scolded only my older brothers cared for me but they always go out so my family have more time to scold me i don't even know why even if im far away from my sister and my brother its no use my parents will scold me anyway. Once i tried to commit suicide but i didn't my brother told me tbat i shouldn't do that cause everyone will be sad my friends,my bestfriens and everyone will be sad so i trusted him and he cared for me. Its been a long journey here and i think i'll stop here and while im writing this i cried a lot.

He teased me,call names at me,hurt me physically when i dont want to do stuffs,he never listens to me whenever i screamed my whole entire heart out
