AmericanTrucks Ford I want to go with a 24inc wheel on my 2015 f150 so what would be the best size to go with without any problem with rubbing but yet still enough tire for cushion on the ride
I believe I have a negative "24" on mine, I have aftermarket wheels and tires and I have to take it back to Ford because they were never balanced correctly.
@@americantrucks 1/9/20, There's really no reason to do this, the factory wheels do just fine, this is just something else to sell you. I live in farm country where contractors/farmers/ranchers w/real work trucks are outfitted w/the right equipment for what they do. Then there's the "pretty-boy trux" w/all this fancy aftermarket stuff.....that doesn't do anything @ all! I drive a 2015 Taurus w/a trailer hitch 4/a 4"x"6" mesh carry-all (1650 LBS/$600. in Lowe's), good enough 4what I need, cheaper than a trk when I don't always need a trk. (I'm ret. from a NY transit auth. where I've used many types of trux over time).
FYI, wheel width comes into play here as well as two wheels with the same offset yet one is wider than the other; the wider wheel will poke out more. Case in point is the first wheel was an 8.5" and the second was a 9". The wheel at the same offset would poke an extra 1/4" (or ~6mm) more. So going to a +12 in the 9" wide wheel from a +44 8.5" wheel has about the same poke as an 8.5" would at +6 offset. This is why these 20x12 -44 wheels poke out so much; it's not just the negative offset, it's the huge width change too.
My own personal preference as far as how far tires should stick out: 1” or less past the fenders if there are no flares. If there are fender flares it should also be an 1” or less past the edge of the flares. But hey that’s just me of course :)
Great visual with the rubbing in the wheel well. I was having a hell of a time understanding why a positive offset would make it rub. It’s not the side of the wheel well closest to the engine you have to worry about, it’s the inside of the fender directly in front and back of the wheel!
Just spent almost $1900 on the website today😅😅 got 18x9 with -12 offset for my new wheels. New exhaust, headlights, and intake. I’m excited. Plus I’m installing my leveling kit for my new wheels next week
I've watched this video many times, and it is a really good one! The only thing missing is a 0 offset. It would be cool to compare the +12, the 0, and the -12. But well done overall!
That's so awesome u came out with this video. Just so happens I'm waiting for the last parts of my lift to be delivered today. Have my tire/wheels sitting in the garage with a -24 wrapped in a 35"x12.50. perfect timing thanks
EME June Lee I took the factory blocks off the rear and just lowered the rear. It’s the same as a 2X4 truck now. I can actually touch the bottom of the bed now.
Nice clear video guys, the animations help a lot. I don’t have a very aggressive offset on my wheels, but I question how much less I would have needed to trim had I gone with a most positive offset wheel.
I was pulling my hair trying to decide what offst to get. Glad i watched this video. I now know 0 offset is still offset from the stock wheels im replacing. I love the look of big neg offsets but living on a dirt road i will stick with tiny bit of offset
I love these videos, especially the ones with Justin. I am a new truck owner, someone who doesn't need to own a truck but wanted one so I am completely lost when it comes to most things trucks and every video I've seen with Justin is super clear and not too long-winded. I already bought running boards and an antenna from you guys and looking at new rims and decals next.
I am glad to see companies talking about what the wheel and tire combos will do to people's trucks in a realistic fashion. Will you guys get into how these setups change scrub angle and what that means for stability especially while towing?
Well you can use a spacer to achieve negative offset. For instance if you have a wheel with a +15mm offset and add a 25mm spacer your actual offset will now be -10mm. Hope this makes sense? -Justin
My current setup on Hilux 2018: 265/60R18 9J ET+12 . New setup would be 265/70R17 8J ET+20. Offset calculators online say that poke would be 20mm less. But if i still have same width of the wheel 265 Wouldnt the wheel sink in less in to the wheel well (20-12 = 8mm). So I'd still have tyre "poking" out just 8mm less than the current setup.
Thank you for taking the time to fully explain in great detail about offset, love your channel and will definitely be using your website for my new 2022 super duty!
I have the same truck same color and putting on basically the same tires. Glad I was able to see what they’d look like with offset. I’ll be getting some new rims before installing the Mickey Thompson tires. Thanks!
I have a 2018 F150 With a 2.5 supreme suspension level 17” BMF drt pro wheels 8.5 wide + 6 offset With atturo trailblade XT’s 35x12.5x17 no rubbing at all and about an inch of poke
Please let me know what is the backspacing on the Black Rhino York 20X9 with the +12mm Offset? That set up is rad and looks great. Ready to buy that wheel/tire combo. Btw- could I do a +285/60r20 with that wheel set up with no issues? My front end is raised 2.5 inches...
These kinds of things are always going to be highly subjective, and everyone obviously has their own opinion. When I went looking for wheel and tire combination for my 2020 F150, the possibilities were seemingly endless. However, it doesn't take that long to start whittling things down. Style, size, offset, hub bore, price, and availability quickly become factors, and the list of potentials gets quite short. My truck came with stock 20's (275/55R20), with the obligatory +44 factory offset. While there's a lot of options for 20 inch wheels, I was never crazy about that wheel size. I chose the path of less wheel and more tire. The final verdict was Fuel Assault 17 X 8.5, +14mm offset, with Toyo Open Country 3s, LT 285/75R17 load range C tires. The combination of less offset with a wider and taller tire has given my truck the exact look I was hoping for, and the Open Country 3s have performed well in the northeast snow. That being said, anyone who's unfamiliar with these types of things, but looking to change their factory wheels should watch this video, multiple times if necessary. It's very clear cut, informative, and gives a great visualization of exactly how offset will affect the look of your vehicle.
You didn't discuss spacers. I know it's an inferior solution to achieving a more aggressive stance, but A LOT of people use them. I'm not a huge fan of really aggressive poke, but I do find this stuff interesting. Is using spacers safe? Does it harm the vehicle's suspension or hubs? For someone like me who prefers an OEM look but wants a more flush look, I'm wondering if simply using a 1 inch spacer with factory wheels is a reasonable option on a F-150.
I can't stand offset. Acceptable if fender flares are added but there's nothing like stock with some nice all terrains. Better fuel economy and no damage from the tires all around the sides of your truck
Love the grey ford trucks! Think that is lead foot and the 2019 is called abyss grey, both of those are 🔥. Ordering one next year or might wait to see what the 2021 looks like
I have a 3 inch lifted STX..........stock wheels with 325/65R/18 tires............have my share of rubbing, mainly on the upper control arm. Hopefully this vid helps me out. :)
I have a 06 F150 Fx4 and it already had a set of 255/70x17s with a offset. I was wanting to go with a bigger tire just not sure how much bigger i could go on that rim and it does not have a leveling kit. I was thinking about going back with the 18s that came out on the truck then maybe adding a leveling kit
I have factory 18" wheels on my 2016 XLT...I'd like a more aggressive stance but don't want to modify anything and don't want any suspension issues to worry about...I want the all around multi purpose setup ,looks like that 12mm negative offset with a 20" wheel might be the answer for me.
You should mention that wheel bearings will suffer with more offset. Be prepared to replace sooner. Also steering components will suffer and a tendency to follow road imperfections.
Great video Justin. Can u do a video on how tire width and wheel width correlate. Meaning how many tire widths can fit on the same wheel size. Want to keep current wheels but want a wider tire .. how wide can I go until it doesn’t fit the wheel anymore.
Great video!!! I have a F150 2016 Lariat with Camper shell, and I would like make my truck a little more aggressive, I think the second option will be good (+12MM) but my question is If I get that option, I need lift my truck as well??? Thank you for your comments!!!
Best video ever well done. I have a question. On my Monte Carlo I had 18 x 7 rims then I went changed them to an 18 x 8 rim. Now the car looks really flush before it looked tucked like the stock F150. Do you think it was my width in rim increase or was it possibly the different offset that created my flush look? Hopefully this makes some sense🙃
can you please discuss spacers? i love my stock wheels but need about 3/8" more... "poke" (thanks for the term!) to clear the fenders at full lock/full compression when loaded. most folks ive spoken with say "#$%#^#$&$ spacers -grouchgrouchgrouch..." i need an adult opinion.
I had spacers on my old truck man... They're a pain in the ass when it comes to wanting to balance your tires because you have to take them off... No tire shop in the US will balance a vehicle with spacers for liability reasons. When installed correctly, they won't give you a problem, but IMO this factor makes it not worth it... Just pick your desired offset and be done 👍
hey quick question...I have a GMC Sierra 2022 SLE 2.7 . It came with stock 17 wheels. what is the offset of the base already? meaning I wanted to get tires that have "little poke" but not experience any rubbing. Something that I can just have the tires, balanced, and mounted so they can be shipped to my home and I can put them on myself. i"m not looking at 20's, Either keeping 17s or getting 18s? thanks so mucH! keep up the good work!
First of all, I do appreciate you taking the time to inform your audience of this very important issue amongst us truck owners. Secondly, if I want to maintain my stock wheel on my 23 F-150, how do I achieve the +12 offset (a poke of about 1") with spacers (I assume) ?🤔
@@americantrucks I was going to ask the same thing so lets say i put 35/11.50/20 on my current 20 inch stock ford rim i have a 2 inch leveling kit Will that mess up my offset any?
Thank you for the insights...great to know the pros and cons of off-set rims...now iam all set for zero off-set for my pajero for daily use and offroads
Remember, width and offset combined are what create poke. Trying to show what changing offset alone does should be done by only changing offset. The three wheels you showed have different widths, 8.5”, 9”, and 10”.
With stock suspension and no lift, what’s the lowest offset I can go? Looking to get 17x9s and hoping to go with a 0mm offset. Not sure if anything will rub at the stock height though.
The setup I’ve been looking at for my 2024 stx fx4 5.0 is 18x9 +1….. with 305/65r18 wildpeaks. Any e know if that will rub? Cus as it is I see some run on the frame with my stock setup.
Hey can you please tell me a good exaust system to make my v6 sound like a v8 I got a 4.0 sports trac can u please do a video on that truck I believe the 4.0 in the ranger and the explorer are the same engine that's in the sports trac . Please if you can do a video off of that topic . Or give me some good info
Best video, sir. I have a question if factory rims setting are positive 44 mm offset , now I want get new rims for positive 35 mm , do i need longer bolt to fit the new rims? Thank you
(No) to longer bolts. The wheel is built with the offset on the inside. The distance from the center rim mount moves in or out depending on the type of offset you choose. It does not change the distance from center of rim to the Wheel Hub. Unless your talking spacers?
Great information thank you. Question my 2018 F350 wheels 275X70X18 wheels 18X8XOJ. I want to purchase black rhino wheels. My new tires that I’m thinking about is Yokohama G015 285X7518. But I don’t want them to stick out looking for that factory look. So what do I want for offset wheels to be close to factory spec. Thank You
I have a 2016 f150. It has stock wheels with +44 offset. I want new wheels with a +12 offset. Will I have to get a alignment with the new +12 offset wheel?
First question is how far back does the +44 offset apply, 13th gen, 12th gen? I am installing an Eibach Protruck leveling kit on my 2011 2wd this weekend and I have the option of a 2" or 2.7" level and whichever I choose I want to be able to fill the wheel well as much as possible without any cutting, scrubbing or rubbing. You mentioned that this setup is a 2.5" level and the stock wheel is wrapped in a 285/55r20, but is that about the largest diameter and width I can expect to fit without the aforementioned rubbing issues? If not, what is the largest option that will fit on the stock wheel and a 2" or 2.7" level? I am not going for an aggressive stance as much as I don't want a huge gap between my tires and wheel wells. The additional sidewall should also provide a little more ride comfort than my current 55's.
Your 2011 factory wheel also has a offset of +44 so it would be very similar. With 2.5" leveling kit on your 2011 you should be able to squeeze a somthing like a 285/75 on your rig (which equates to roughly a 35 x11) with the factory wheels. The nice thing about your model F150 is that you don't have crash bars to contend with too, so that's a win. -Justin

can you please discuss spacers? i love my stock wheels but need about 3/8" more...
@@califpv thank you thats a very considered and informed answer! i wonder if i can get copies of the stock wheels with different offsets...
Thank you California gaming. You just answered a question that I had in the back of my mind. I say learn from others.
hey quick question...I have a GMC Sierra 2022 SLE 2.7 .
The flush offset is perfect
A video that gives great understanding about offsets. Great job
Awesome, thank you! -Justin
Graphics department for the win on this one.
No doubt- it was actually done by one of our very talented video editors who is a jack of all trades. -Justin
this helps me decide what kind of wheel and tires I should get...love the +12 offset look......thank u
Thanks for the feedback!! We're always happy to see that our videos are helping people out! -Zach
the intros are super satisfying
First of all, I do appreciate you taking the time to inform your audience of this very important issue amongst us truck owners. Secondly, if I want to maintain my stock wheel on my 23 F-150, how do I achieve the +12 offset (a poke of about 1") with spacers (I assume) ?🤔
Spacers would be your best bet if you want to keep your factory wheels, for sure! -Zach
I appreciate this information so much! I finally understand what is OffSet means. 👍👏🙏
Did you get them? I was thinking of the same set up.
I'd go with the +12 "flush" offset with my truck. Just to bring the tires out a bit than look like they're stuck in there too much.
THANK YOU. Just what I needed to know. Getting some nice wheels
so what does it do for alingment
What about if I put spacers to pop my tire out a bit? On a budget so wondering about it??
You can definitely do that too, especially if you want to keep your factory wheels and tires. -Zach
AmericanTrucks Ford what size would you recommend? So I could keep the ride not to change
The setup I’ve been looking at for my 2024 stx fx4 5.0 is 18x9 +1….. with 305/65r18 wildpeaks. Any e know if that will rub? Cus as it is I see some run on the frame with my stock setup.
Quick question. Does a negative offset affect the way the truck performs now? Will it do any damage to the rack and pinion? Thanks for the help.
Awesome video! Answered all the questions I had about picking some new rims. Thanks!
Great to hear and glad to help! -Justin
I have +10 305 /55 's on my 17 f150 and I love that it just barely comes out past the fender... To each his own ✌️
Best video, sir.
Thank You
With an 18x9 you would want to stick within the 35-25mm range when it comes to offset for a stock stance! Hope this helps!
Best offset video
-Justin
