- The GX 460 is ready for what ever you can throw at it and Lexus made a couple changes. On the outside you will find a new paint color for 2023, 18in wheels, and running boards. On the inside there is a full leather interior, 12.3in infotainment system and sunroof. Under the hood is a V8 301HP and bolted t0 a 6-speed automatic transmission. Is the 2023 Lexus GX 460 the BEST new midsize luxury SUV to buy?

Everyone knows the GX is on the TOP of consumer reports list for the most reliable vehicle ever.
Own a 2011 and literally at 204,331 with no problems but tires, oil changes and brakes. Still riding smooth trouble free.
We just bought a ‘23 460 and LOVE it.
Re: 18” wheels: This platform was born as a military vehicle. That’s why it’s bulletproof and is modified and used by many off-roaders. They are foolish to criticize 18”, and even more foolish to think of taking anything larger off road.
Re: Mileage: We get 20-22 on the highway. When you take the very high resale value, you will eventually get a lot of the “guzzled” gas money back.
Get a ‘22 or ‘23 now, for their residual value should stay high. Why?…because the new generation ‘24 gets only 1 mpg better, but only offers the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) in a new electronic form in only select models. The tried and proven earlier KDSS is standard on all levels, ‘23 and older.
Don’t “zonk” too much here. Remember, the Japanese philosophy is to achieve perfection over time, not tack on every gizmo that every other competitor has every years. Knowing that ‘23 is the last year for the V8 and this whole generation, they aren’t going to change a bunch of mechanical stuff
Nice I have a honda pilot😢😢😢😢
The GX460 being a 150-series Land Cruiser will outlast your Bronco, Wrangler and Defender combined!

All newer cars not an old car asking for new money.
Facts!!!
@@XX-166 let’s call it a new old car. Nonetheless it won’t be an old car needing new parts.
@@justinh8959 it’ll just be branded as a new car and old in the sheets with a new car price and unattractive like the old one.
This is the most reliable vehicle on the planet. Buy this, and easily get 300k of maintenance-free driving. This will be the last year with the bullet-proof V-8 engine. If you're looking to buy one, get one NOW! I'm considering trading my RX 450H in for one of these gems. Exceptional review as always!
I've owned multiple Lexus vehicles and they are by far the best vehicles I've ever owned by a wide margin. This is from the perspective of use as a daily driver only and no track use. The mechanicals are old but honed to perfection and the styling can be hit (current IS) or miss (this GX) but Toyota knows how to make a great premium vehicle. I'm a Lexus owner for life and will never switch to another brand...
Absolutely
I agree with you. I drive Toyota products only. I have an Avalon limited trim with 290k, Ls 460L with 210k, and a GX460 with 50k miles. All still running exceptionally strong with minimal maintenance.
@@Boldstep001 How is the ride of LS compared to the Avalon. Seeing a ton of good deals on Avalons out there, for obvious reasons.
@@onlyfoolriding8223 the Avalon rides pretty smoothly but of course, the LS is the king of smooth rides. The LS to me is in a different class completely. They are both wonderful vehicles.

@@sly9263 there are so many aftermarket accessories for Toyota/Lexus models. Who cares what the car comes with. Make it unique and make it your own. That’s what 75% of 4Runner owners do. And this is basically a V8 4Runner.
they need more modern tail lights, shit looks like any other generation of GXs
In today's market, GX's a steal. High end RAV4 and highlanders are over 50K. Any decent domestic big SUV costs 80K at least. High 50Ks gets you V8+full time 4WD+KDSS+lexus quality.
i love the old school feel, thats why i own a 2022 GX
Not feeling it in 2024
@@slighce the new LX600 is somewhat of a design mess (especially the center console area), so I don't have high expectations for the next gen 2024-25 GX500. It'll probably get a rattley, small displacement turbo, despite ironically having it's name incremented to "500" over the 460 that refers to the current V8's capacity. The new GX will wind up being slightly more reliable than BMW or Mercedes but nowhere near the margin that it used to have. The biggest leg up for Lexus at that point is that their interiors are generally higher quality and wear much better than their German peers. Most BMW and Mercedes interiors look like shit in a few years- buttons wear off, steering wheels delaminate, seats crease and flake... list goes on.

I am SO glad that you mentioned that this is a spruced up 4-Runner. This is the exact reason I bought this vehicle bc I loved riding the 4-Runner when I rented it but realized it didnt have the bells and whistles I was looking for. The GX has more "get up and go" thanks to its 301 HP V8 and it is as SOLID to drive as the 4-Runner. I get a smile every time I open my garage to go for a ride in this beauty.
Except he is wrong. Its a rebadged Land Cruiser Prado, not a 4R.
Comparing this to a 4 runner is ignorant at best. Not even close.
@@willboege7078yup its a lc prado not 4 runner but us dont get prado so i can see why people will say 4runner rather than lc prado.
I’ve been in the wholesale car business for many years. Driven just about everything out there. There are many great alternatives to the GX. Especially if you like to trade every few years. Turbo engines have made great advancements for consumers who appreciate respectable fuel economy and better acceleration. Keep in mind the majority of these units will have more expensive maintenance costs over 70-80k miles.
But the GX has a build quality that is hard to replicate from most manufacturers. The drive, the interior feel, the way the doors close, the factory paint finish, the quality of the interior components etc are things most companies can’t replicate.
Like others have said resale value is great with these. Some of the best resale figures in the market consistently. Unlike several models that I’ve seen mentioned in the comments.
At the end of the day the beauty of the car market is all of the available options that we have. This current GX may not be what everyone is looking for. But I can assure you it’s a solid choice if you’re considering it for your next purchase.
Very good input and perspective!
The answer is yes. Brought a black line edition back in Nov for my wife. We are all very happy with the purchase. Thanks for the detailed review!
Love the color Joe!!! It pops!!! Hope you are having a blessed day 🙏
The 2022-23 GXs are the best to have. They are still old school reliable but now have the updated infotainment system with Carplay/Android Auto so you can get the best of both worlds.
This vehicle is one of my favorites. I don’t care how old most of it is. I actually prefer the older styled Toyota and Lexus vehicles plus they’ve proven to be pretty bulletproof. Especially that V8
Because its port injected. This and the 4 runner.
Joe, I am glad that you were able to review this GX with the updated 10.25 infotainment system that is now finally a touchscreen. I was surprised when I heard this trim offered ventilated on top of the heated seats, and the fact that not all the lights are LED :/
Great review as always joe 😄 small zonk for not showing off the rear glass hatch opening up
I got the '22 GX, I was also blessed with 10"........of infotainment screen. I love how solid and powerful this vehicle is.
Built in a world class Toyota factory that wreaks of reliability.
The 2024 Lexus dubbed the GX550 will most likely be the smaller engine with forced induction/hybrid. Probably more horsepower and better mpg. But I promise that 4.6 V8 will be on the road longer.
"I have that one luxury japanese dinosaur"
GX is one of my old-time favorites. I can't wait to see what the new redesigned GX is gonna look like.
it'll look great, with a scumbag drivetrain tho

Owned many Lexus and Toyota’s. All are still running. Current owner of a GX. By far the best SUV in the world. Off and on road.
My wife has this vehicle. It is built like a freight train! Old but reliable! We are considering a new one with a twin turbo V-6 or the NX on the next lease.
Good Video as always. Take care Joe. best Wishes.
My fav part about this Mid-sized SUV, is the “trunk” door
Probably the most reliable vehicle to ever sit on the lot at Jaguar Land Rover St. Pete’s!
I love it Joe and Lori and keep up the good work and I love the video 👍 💯💯💯
We can't do it without you!
i love the old school feel
Joe, I completely agree that all lighting on any Lexus should be LEDs.
You’re right Joe ……full led on a Lexus! Still not a fan of front grille. I like my luxury understated, not LOUD. Thanks Joe! Saw a Nissan z in parking lot today…..looks awesome !
These are the best offroad. They are known as the Landcruiser Prado in the world market and simply the Landcruiser in Europe. The 4 runner is based on the GX460 not the other way around. TRD Pro lacks the 3rd/Center differential and fulltime 4WD and KDSS
I thought the TRD pro had KDSS but the Limited has fulltime 4WD... neither of the two being combined on 4runners though
@Sly TRD pro does not have kdss... TRD Off-Road has KDSS, pro does not. Limited has 3rd diff/fulltime 4wd.
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD wow, I was mistaken for a very long time- thanks
Thanks for clarifying, a lot of people think the GX is a spruced up 4Runner, but it’s actually the other way around - the 4Runner is a “watered down” version of the Prado/GX
I just bought a 2023 Lexus GX 460...I could not be happier. Love the way it drives. Gas mileage is not fun but that is OK by me. I test drove a Toyota 4 Runner TDR Pro and didn't like it much. I am so glad I drove a Lexus GX 460 because I was really surprised with the difference in driving and feel of the vehicle. Much more luxury, more than I would have thought. Get one! I am thinking they are going to mess up with the 2024 changes. We'll see.
Guaranteed 300,000 mile buggy. This thing will dance religiously for 20+ years.
love the GX. Hate that they haven’t upgraded the dashboard to digital screens yet, but the reliability and old fashioned volume knobs give it a “old man, old school” feel in a new vehicle.
GREAT REVIEW ALWAYS! I must say tho that GTC4LUSSO in the background is FIRE & hopefully you're able to go ON THROTTLE with that Ferrari...
Oh just wait!

Super job you two on the review!🎉
Nice Lexus GX class I love the way it looks it may not be the most modern modern SUV's but it works.
Agreed. I've read and heard many people putting down the appearance and never understood that because they always catch my eye, in a very good way!

@@kevinbreese5739 True true I understand why it's unredesigned but it's a dandy.
I recently bought a gx460 2023 and let me tell you that vehicle is amazing it handles like a sport car, its comfortable and it has all the updated infotainment screen, on gas is not great but its an amazing car!
It absolutely does NOT handle like a sportscar- no one with experience driving sportscars would ever say such an absurd thing (no offense). It does handle very well for a body on frame SUV though, for sure.

Got mine 2 weeks ago and i love it! There is absolutely nothing I dislike. Love my truck!
You can call it a truck or you can call it a car, I simply call it a dream vehicle! Sold, smooth, quiet and powerful enough. A joy to drive every time and they will not be making the V8 anymore! Gas mileage is not the greatest but this is not my commuting vehicle for work either.
Yes indeed. I was going to buy 2003 at the 2002 NYC AutoShow. When I was working for the security company there at the time.

Just ordered a Black Line edition and it should arrive any day now. Test drove the new Sequoia and hated it. Love the build quality and ride quality of the GX. Looking forward to take the GX both on and off-road and have it lifted a few inches after the OEM tires are gone
If you don’t mind me asking What you hate about the new Sequoia? I’m thinking or trade my GX with the new Sequoia for more space.
What color did you go with? I just received a 2023 GX brochure and it's not showing Nori Green or the Black Line edition in it for some reason

Bought the 2023 GX460 and love everything about it except the fuel economy. I've owned many Lexus vehicles and have never had a problem--but my family has had many problems and bad experiences with other brands. Driving this car feels like driving a luxurious tank. My husband is 6' 4" and feel comfortable in the driver's seat. I'm 5' 2"ish and am comfortable as well. The technology and the safety features are very good, but the primary selling point for me is the GX reliability. The rugged look also appeals to me (I dislike the soft curvy cross-over look of many SUVs).
Have you had any problems with GX460 so far or the car is reliable as tank? I'm considering to buy it
It looks like the middle row, middle seat can fold down on it's own like a little pass though. Is that true? Like for 4 passengers plus some snowboards/skis or something like that. I like that if it's true.
God I love the GX, Lexus is still Team Analog in some respects and I'm here for it. Nice review!
@Raiti's Rides Joe..

Sorry NOT a TRD pro. GX 460 is based on the Land Cruiser Prado. LC has a 25 year service life. Yes, it will outlast 90% of other vehicles.
I believe Lexus is coming out with GX550. GX460 will be done. Plenty used one will be available. This car is a tank and a pleasure to ride. I rode one with 254000 on the clock, rode like new. Lexus need to bring this same concept, BUT with inline 6 and 8 speed tranny with paddle shifter, if needed, using regular gas or hybrid. I will be inline to order one. I have to say, for around 63K new, regular model, good price for such a reliable truck. Lexus is killing the Germans, day after day.....period.
I really wish they would re-design the exterior but this is such a great car
I still love this SUV. I'd like to see the steering wheel full leather and the front grill to be just a little smaller. I don't care for too many bells and whistles so I would love it. To me, it is like the 4-Runner...I don't want to see them mess it up with a redesign. Too afraid they would make it look like everything else on the road...shorter and rounded off...which kills the look of an SUV.
This is so very true!

Well, after looking at the RX350, Tahoe etc, it’s the GX460 for me. Taking delivery tomorrow. Trading our 2020 Nissan Murano Platinum AWD. The RX was disappointing . While the tech was newer, it felt..small….4 cylinder was whiny; felt every bump, as it seems they went more sporty. And I’m 6’4, 300. The Murano was much bigger inside than all of them, honestly. Been a great vehicle. The value ratio of the GX, and longevity, sold me. And that V8, even being somewhat underpowered and inefficient (yet long lasting). I actually like the way the rear door opens..and I’ll likely use the pop-open glass hatch way more..easy peasy, lemon squeasy. I had also considered the Audi G7 (can’t find), New Mazda (can’t stand the rear end and it’s brand new), the Honda Passport, and other luxury SUVs.
Just bought my wife the ‘24 Acura MDX w/Tech AWD, 3 weeks ago, because at almost 60 yrs old, what it has, is good enough, for both of us. Same with the Lexus GX Premium, and in both cases, great value, get longer warranties and some maintenance thrown in. And I can do follow up oil changes at a Honda dealership, and the GX at a Toyota store, unless a warranty-related concern pops up.
Your reviews helped, as well as actual test drives by me. Appreciate every single review, even if I’m not in the market. Kudos, and thanks.
I purchased 2 of these before Lexus screws it up. Absolutely the best vehicle I’ve ever driven. Dated yes but smooth and solid, which I’ll take any day over the total garbage car companies are making today.
Proud owner of a 2017 GX460. Owned a GX470 (2008) and loved it too (should have kept it). These things are bulletproof and Lexus service pampers my wife with a loaner or transport when she goes for maintenance!
You are so very right!
Hi Raiti: you have some of the best car reviews, even if suggesting to put the kids on the roof may not work for everyone...just joking. Your reviews are infectious...I ended up buying a GX460 2023 model. I really enjoy it. It actually drives better than my Audi...Thanks for the review.
Not why everything thinks this is 4runner platform. It's not. It's a Land Cruiser Prado platform and has full-time 4x4 with a locking center diff. It's frankly better than the 4unner in every way.
Still have the 2003 GX 470 with the naturally aspirated V8 and it is definitely bulletproof! Still runs like new and extremely reliable. The only caveat is the mpg.
This car is such a beauty. If it was a hybrid or plug in, I’ll be all over it.

It’s based on the FJ150, aka Land Cruiser Prado popular in Asia.
Like the new refresh but wish they also change out the tail light design as well.
