      See my comments about the lack of black viewpoints. This is a one-sided interview. BEE is quite frankly necessary, despite its challenges and often incorrect application - because there is an undeniable legacy of having legislated WEE during apartheid. We are still affected by that and I did not hear your guests offer any plan on how to apply solutions to apartheid era legacy problems.

      @@eldonphukuile Sure .. BEE was necessary but so was a sunset clause. If the guys who cobbled together our so called constitution had had some foresight and understanding of history they might have got beyond their narrow political agendas and cooperated instead of compromising themselves and us all. At least they might have had the sense to put a time limit on affirmative action so business could get on with it and make sure it worked before moving on to merit. Australia did that with their local music scene and it put them on the musical map .. but they had to work for their success.

    Just to add in passing, that Big Business in their own self interest made BEE successful for the ANC. Without their short sighted collusion and collaboration BEE could never have worked as well. I sometimes suggest as a compensation mechanism that big retailers such as Pick n Pay could be privatised. The shock horror and derisive response belies the possibility that this might be eminently practical. Le Marche in Toronto some years ago was a perfect example. 🙃

      @@hughsithole3665 What allowed the ANC to abuse the black empowerment process is simply the lack of a sunset clause and the kind of constitution we allowed politicians to construct at CODESA. A centralised state, and limitless time to redress the balance has been disastrous. That should by now be obvious to us all .. and we are all responsible for allowing it to happen.

    Thank you, as BEE has been devastating to our economy in the name of state capture..... Like everything else that has fallen apart because of favourites in top positions without the necessary experience of that particular field....
    My late husband experienced a German consortium come into SA and pull out because they didn't believe in BEE back in the early 2000s already....
    Also...
    A late friend who was a bank manager was instructed to give out loans to the person in the street without a promise of how they'd pay back the loan, when my daughter was forced to go to UK as her loan with a full repayment plan was turned down. In her plan she aimed to teach people of colour her skill, by now they could've had many skilled people working side by side, but BEE caused a split in the seam, so to say...
    I do hope you are successful

      @@eldonphukuile we have had 28 years of black (ANC) viewpoints and unchecked BEE. For that, all we have to show is a totally broken country. White people are too scared to say "boo" out of fear of being called racists. Sakeliga is trying to get some balance and perspective back, and if that is to be accomplished it will obviously have to be in participation with black business owners and intellectuals. For now however, everything possible must be done to change the insane course this government has put us on. All that BBBEE results in is a price premium on every product or service procured by the state ( tax payers money ) , the premium is used to pay the BBBEE ( front ) who most often don’t have the capability to implement the project and or service . They in turn funnel a percentage of the award back to the government. Then rinse and repeat . End result is many nouveau riche tenderpreneures , and tax payers money flowing back to the party . The saddest part of the story is the valid reason for BBBEE ( upliftment of the poorest of the poor by firstly training so that they transit from unemployable to employable , and then assistance in creation of small business with very competitive loans ) has just been ignored by the greedy looters who spend all their time planning huge projects for self enrichment so they can rush out and buy another Bentley or yet another home. The mantra is “ everyone’s doing it , so pay the bribes , inflate your prices and party on as there are ZERO consequences “ - wrong the consequences is the have nots are justifiably getting to a tipping point of being militant , and this will not end well for all except the corrupt who have the funds to leave the country . Please just cancel this legalised theft ASAP.

      I think the majority of business owners were happy to support new, developing black entrepreneurs in the first vision of BEE in early 2000's. Startups were given access to funding and larger corporate contracts: we all understood there was much to be done to rebalance opportunity to previously disadvantaged. Even the 10% price discrepancy was appropriate (if a black owned company tendered against a white owned and was 10%more expensive, the tender was awarded to the black co) The poison that has slowly killed South Africa was when government mandated a white company (even if they had the skills, experience, infrastructure to do a within budget quality job) Couldn't even submit a proposal! This opened Treasury funds to any black company to charge whatever they wanted (R6 a toilet roll instead of R1 as an example) and THAT rampant profiteering sickness has just grown and grown and drowned us all

      Funny thing is that those whom are in favor of BEE and not to abolish it are either beneficiaries of BEE or are using it to punish another especially knowing that significant part of the labor market is filled with people whom were never part of apartheid. Just understand someone that entered the labor market at 1994 could now be a grandmother/grandfather whos grandkids are almost of the age of finishing primary school, just to indicate timeline perspective, so not only did you punish 1 generation but 3 already that had nothing to do with apartheid. To make it even worse is that BEE is having the opposite effect where majority of the poor are black that sit with the most unemployment. To abolish BEE is actually the best way to currently uplift the poor who are majority black.

    • @marcusmoonstein242

      If you're going with that analogy, it's more like one spouse cheats and so the other spouse feels that they're now entitled to cheat as well. It's as if they're saying "you've had your turn and now I get my turn", and somehow the two wrongs are supposed to make a right.
      However, racial discrimination is always wrong, regardless of which race is doing it to which other race. So how do we redress the wrongs of the past if not through racial discrimination against whites?
      The best proposal I've heard is to practice affirmative action based upon economic background rather than race. In other words, all poor people get a helping hand regardless of their race. However, there are far more poor black people than poor white people so this policy would disproportionately benefit blacks anyway. Whites wouldn't be able to complain because they're not excluded because of their race, and rich black people don't get special treatment because of their "disadvantage".

    • @kazykamakaze131
      @kazykamakaze131 2 роки тому

      @@marcusmoonstein242 You trying to talk logic to someone that has never practiced logic. They just don't get it. All this person can see is through the lens of race as they do not contain enough intelligence. For them all they see is some group that looked like me was wronged in the past(supposedly as an enormous amount of black people have told me they had it better in apartheid and I didn't bring up this topic.) now they think they feel justified to try and punish a group that doesn't look like them even though this person never experienced any discrimination at all, if I am not mistaken this falls under the definition of racism.
