- A sparkling new hub for Turkish Airlines - which flies to upwards of 300 destinations globally, including nine cities across the US - Istanbul Airport has officially replaced Atatürk International Airport as the region’s primary international gateway and has the capacity to receive 90 million transit passengers annually.
The airport is around 40km northwest of central Istanbul, on the European side. Terminal is one of the biggest in the world, with four international piers and one domestic over 1.4 million sqm.
In this video series I will give you the complete transit guide for the new Istanbul airport with complete details and in depth walk through, take you through the experience of having a connecting flight in the new Istanbul Airport.

Sorry, haven't seen this question before now. I check in Oslo, Norway or Bangkok Thailand. No, you don't have to register your passport inside transfer area.

Great video, one thing which I’m still not clear on is where is the short connection entrance? Are there signs for short connection vs following the normal transfer route through main security? Just wondering where to go as soon as I get off the plane. I have an international to international transfer, with 90 min connection time. Thanks.
Hi, there are several entrances. You will normally see the pink signs saying "short connection" when you coming up and out from the airbridge. You might, like me, end up in the medium of two short connections, but just look around. you, and you will see the pink signs with the short connections. If you see some airport-ground staff, just ask them for the nearest short connection.

@@AmirAli-yv3ge Yes, normally 90 minutes is plenty enough time. And its an easy airport, yes big, but yet again easy. So if your plane land on time, you will have plenty of time to reach your gate. And if you have less then 90 minutes you will save some time with the short connection. Have a nice and safe trip :)
Beginners question:
My transit is via Istanbul airport, the stay is about 4 hours.
My question is about luggage, will the check in luggage automatically arrive at our next (departure terminal) and into the new plane or do we have to collect the luggage after our first flight and check in again at the start of connecting flight?
Normally, but it depends on the airline, they will check your luggage to your final destination. Just ask them when you check in at your airport.

There is a lot of restaurants and seating areas in the Middle of the airport. And you will find the monitors showing the gates throughout the airport :) 8 hr layover, you might wanna consider using the IGA Lounge, I think the price is 69$ or Euro :) But if you don't wanna spend that money, there are many great restaurants to choose from :)

Hi, i haven't travelled through Istanbul during the Covid19, but e.g. Doha and Amsterdam, there has been no entry form to fill out when doing a transit.
We arrive from Cappadocia to Istanbul at 1020 am and have a flight from Istanbul to Medina at 1235 pm
Is that enough time ? we will have luggage to checkin.

I did try that one time, but they say no. When enter this Fast Track area, they will check your boarding pass. But, its not illegal to try ;) But these days you will do a transfer really fast :)

Does all transfers have to go thru duty-free zone (downstairs) before reaching another gate for Turkish airline to Turkish airline international transfer? Must go thru security check as well? What is "short connection points" described in Istanbul airport website?
Yes, most of the transits will take you through the duty free zone. Even the short connection will sometimes takes you through the duty-free zone, but not always. Its depending on the arrival and departure gate.

Normally they will stay with the wheel chair right outside of the plane, just as you disembark the plane.

If you have a connecting flight, they will normally check in your luggage to your final destination. Just ask them to be sure during check in.
if i travel from emirates airlines from dubai to istanbul then using turkish airlines i go to north cyprus from istanbul what will happen to our luggage ? do we need to collect it at istanbul airport or it will directly reach north cyprus
Normally, not always, but normally they will check in your luggage to your final destination. Do tell them that at your check-in in Dubai. Have nice trip :)

Yes, you can, but you will have to obtain a visa for enter Turkey. This can be done online.

Yes, it is very possible :) When you have less than 90 minutes of transit time, you are eligible to use the Short Connection. Just follow the pink/orange signs saying "Short Connection".

Is the Fast Track also for Business class ?
If you mean the Short Connection, I am not 100% sure, but I think its only for those with under 90 minutes transit time. There are a Fast Track for Business Class in the mandatory security control. But I will definitely check this out on my next trip :)

Normally 90 minutes will be enough to reah the gate in time. And if less then 90 minutes, you can try the Short connection :) if no delays, you will have enough time :)

Hey Justin, I have a flight from London to Beirut with 1:35 hrs transfer in Istanbul Airport. My flight is on the Turkish Airlines. Will I be eligible for fast connection? As my time is 95 minutes. Many thanks for the useful video.
I can't give a guarantee, but I would think so, if not, you just wait 5-10 minutes and it will probably be ok. Its worth the try :)

Hi, excellent video, I do have a question, i ll travel cairo -Ist (by Egypt airlines) then I have a conexion to take my flight with Turkish Airlines Ist-Toronto, so basically Once I ll land in Ist, I have to get my luggage then security check point, then put my baggage in a connexion? then board my flight? Thank you very much. Im not 100% sure about this, but normally, if you buy a continuous flight ticket, from Cairo to Toronto, you should be able to check in your luggage to your final destination. If they do that, in Istanbul, you just proceed to the International Transfer. That mean you just have to go through the security check point, and the luggage will be taken care of for you. But to make sure, I would ask the check-in staff in Cairo, if they can check-in your luggage to your final destination, if for some reason, they don't do this, I am afraid you might have to collect your luggage in Istanbul, and check-in again. If they can do, you just go transit in Istanbul and don't have to worry about your luggage until you arrive in Toronto :)

If your question is for me, the answer is no. I checked in at Bangkok and my luggage was cheked in to my final destination, Oslo. If you dont leave the airport, you dont need visa. If you have a long tranist, and want to visit Istanbul, you will need a visa. You can obtain visa very easy online.
I saw that there are signs for the over 65s at the Istanbul airport. Is it possible to have a facilitated path? Is it difficult to request?
I am not sure if you can use the Short Connection, but on your way to the security control, just before you go down with the escalator to the security area , there are a sort of Fast Track security control for 65+, and others.

Ok, first; if you have 8 hour layover, you will have no problem reaching your gate in time. If you have some mobility issues, I would check with the airline if they can provide som assistance. If you are able to walk, you will be ok. The airport is huge, but on the same easy to navigate. There are these flat escalators making it even easier. So, in this case, you have nothing to be nervous about. Here is a link to the video I made of a transit in realtime. From Short Connection is just one floor down. Ground floor, departure area.

They tend to change the gates. On my trips so far, it has been different gates every time.

Normally, 1 hour should be enough, but its depending on lot of things that might occur. Taxing of your plane, arrival gate and departure gate. My shortest transit was done in about 12 minutes. E.g if your arrival and departure gate is close to each other, and you use the Short Connection, the transit is done really fast, but if they are far, it might take 40-60 minutes. If you book the flight under the same ticket, they normally will try to let you catch the plane. But there is no guarantee. Normally I not recommend to have a short layover, because It can be very stressful, but then again , would I do it ? Probably yes, but you need to valuate the ups and downs by not be able to catch your flight, worst case scenario. But these days, it less crowded cause of the Covid19.

you will know after exit the flight. As you walk you will see the gate number and concourse. You will have to look on the screens to find your connecting flight.

So after you disembark, exit, the plane, and start walking following the signs for Connection/transit you will see informationscreens about departure gate along your way to the security control. The easy thing with Istanbul Airport, if you don't use the Short Connection, is when you walk towards the Security control, you will end up in the middle of the airport. This is where you will see this huge screen. If you too early, your gate will not show yet, then you just hang around there. A lot of restaurants and shops, and more. So you will basically see screens throughout the airport, so don't worry about that :) If I don't remember wrong now, the information about departure gate will normally show on the screen about 1 1/2 hour before your departure time, And if you are in the middle floor of the airport, you will have no problem reaching the gate in time :) If you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask, I will do my best to answer and help you :)

Normally, if no delays, you will have no problem reaching the gate in time with 1 hr and 20 min layover, even with a 10 year old :) I have also made a video about riding the Buggy Car. So if your departure gate is in the far end like example A 15, B 15, F19 . No, if you stay inside the airport, you dont need any visa. Are you flying with Turkish Airlines all the way ?

Ok, it is a long stop over, but as long as you stay inside the airport you will not need any visa. Look around the airport, there are some quiet ares with sleeping chairs. You can also buy entrance to IGA lounges, that cost about 60 Euro. Have a nice travel.

There is no passport control, but your passport might be checked again at the gate when boarding your plane.

No, they tend to change the arrival gates all the time. And dont announce the departure gates before 1hr 30 min before departing time.

7-15 minute is from the middle of the airport to the gate F 1 - F 17. 50 minutes is for the complete transit, including security.
It is absolutely idiotic that you have to go through security even when you arrive with an international flight and have an international transfer. What am i going to bring from the airplane i just left that's such a big threat, the plastic fork from the fruit platter? This airport may be grand, but it is definitely not well thought out considering there's so much walking to do and unnecessary security checks.
Totally agree. Its just annoying. But I see the same thing in other airports. Coming into Europe, EU/EEA/ Schengen area, you will have to do the same thing. But if you transit from EU/EEA/Schengen and into Non Schengen area, there Is no security check.
I have a self transfer at Istanbul Airport. I already have my eboarding pass for my next flight and no baggage, can i use the transit points?

Normally, 1 hour 20 min is time enough. If your connecting flight is under 90 minutes, you are eligible to use the Short Connection. But the time you have to your disposal is more or less determined on the arrival and departure gate. Short Conection will save you some time.

Sorry to hear the video didn't help. There are a lot of videos on UA-cam showing you the walk from arrive to depart, or only transit area. The only problem for many is, you don't know where you arrive and depart, since this tend to change from flight to flight. For example, my transit walk in Istanbul Airport has been from 40 minutes down to 10 minutes from the arrival to departure. That's why I try to explain the layout of the airport, so you know what to expect when landing in Istanbul.
I was there “in transit” from AMM airport to DUS airport, took me 3 hours to reach the gate..
And the same on my way back..

I wish I could answer your question, but I have never done that. I have checked in at Istanbul, and that was easy and no hassle. Normally, 2 hours should be enough, but I haven't done this my self, and can't give you a good answer on this one, sorry.

@@jelena7439 hello! My flight was 3 hours late and I missed my transfer but if it was on time I would no problem transfer. However, lines at the passport control and very long. I would estimate the wait time there 30-40 mins depending on when you arrive. So, I would recommend to have at least 3 hours between your flights if you are planning to pick up your luggage and go through passport control and back again. Wish you all the best

Hi Leslie :) I normally only do transit in Istanbul, but I did do a stopover at Istanbul. For check in, you normally use the check in of your airline, or its partner. What airline are you flying with ?

Oh... then its very easy :) When arriving, if using a taxi, use the entrance Door 4, then you are in the middle of the Departure area. Walk inside and you will see the Istanbul Airport Logo, you will find the Turkish Airlines Check-ins in that area.

Hi. Istanbul Airport Havalimanı, is just one terminal. If you have to go to another airport in Istanbul, then I think you will need visa, but im not sure about this.

that's correct, there's no custom as long as you are in transit :)

No, but you need to have 90 minutes or less transit time to be eligible to use the "Short Connection". But I think there are some companies offering some fast track service, but I have never used it myself, so I can't give any advice on that matter.

No, if your travel is under 1 ticket you don't have to reclaim your baggage. During your check-in tell them to check in the baggage to your final destination. (they normally always to this)

When you started the descent there is transit passenger information.. coming thruuu your screen.. park gate TK number etc.. Also They have transit desk.. why you scare this is just a flight..

Thank you very much ❤️ With less then 90 minutes you will be eligible to use the Short Connection, but If you don't use the Short Connection there will be a Fast lane for business class at the security control. Anyway, you will have no problem catching your next flight with 90 minutes transit time. One thing I noticed during the Covid19 is that the screen monitors will often tell you to go to gate earlier then before.
