I think the 400 series single burners had maybe the best overall design in a self contained stove ever. Svea 123Rs being right there with them. Compact, powerful, durable, stable, proven workhorses. What puts this a notch above the Svea is, of course, instant lighting. No preheat required, Pump, light and ready to cook in 10 to 15 sec. Near stove perfection. If it burned diesel, it'd be the GOAT stove. Maybe it is anyway. So many great ones Coleman put out in this era. 550B, Apex, and these! Wow! They were rolling em out. Wish they would have kept it up. Sadly all good things, I suppose. Is it just me, or is the paint on these like iron? You hardly ever see them chipped up and rusting.

Man Mike you nailed it! , love the 400 series stoves. I know they are still making the 533s which is similar to the 508 with out the adjusting lever and has a good burn. As for Coleman single burning stoves, yeah they were and still is a solid stove. Coleman's formula for baked on enamel paint is second to none.

Stacy, I don't know what is wrong with your 440 but check this out on ebay - www.ebay.com/itm/394820479564?epid=8016466056&hash=item5bed226a4c:g:RrwAAOSwz2hk3o4H&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAABAHMXnxUC9jutpEebRwDky2sphOHVx84oNoU6VT1e5NDb9ADLeDtNcBI9DplXhq%2FrM%2Fhm%2F4cPvIml5u9pcd6Egla2JS754gdGtD2dOWkY7s910oeirADGzTdCFjnaye9ZLFvJOj1i4%2FPcHqZSdHmY5zCJf3hljrAUQvGGrKyE8N3jbgTmJugMgvDSnBymD7CtXcLmbipK9c9cH1yBPh9u3yQ9soTc7dueuimQQlI5j5JDthp%2FiLl64GjvwLF8xzEUJp3DrwxkVpufvzaEyyuJGKChDBNLb4%2F74lCrvULCBV74JrVbGlf3sHH71TfdBgtp56tkIiuvswXDNa9F0eMbrwY%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR7jBxuHEYg

Your check valve may be stuck open or closed. You can take it out and put it in some carb cleaner than soak it in light oil to free the ball. Or you can buy one on ebay.
