There is a good example of gossip resulting in a totally fabricated story in George Eliot's 'Silas Marner'. Personally, I love a good gossip. Our modern lives are too isolated and lonely. A bit of gossiping makes you feel more a part of your local community.
I read that one! And sure, it is a nice part of fitting in, as long as there isn't someone making it hostile. Last time I talked to a local old lady, I loved learning the names of the pets on her street.
@@PaperbagEve Yes - it really depends on how the gossip is conducted. If you are generally not judgemental about issues of 'petty morality', then it is just entertainment.
