    I don't think that 'prom' in itself is a problem - it is like many things in life... mobile phones for example. They are great... except when people are exploited and forced into quasi-slavery to mine the minerals and rare metals needed for their construction. Or when people are addicted to their phones. 'Prom' is a problem because of the abuses in the industry, the racist stereotypes that are reinforced, and the way in which performers are looked down upon by the very hypocrites who consume the material. Unfortunately, like most topics nowadays, balanced arguments looking at the pros and cons are shouted down by the extremists on both sides.

    Firstly, I enjoyed the video, the format of this video, and I greatly enjoyed all of the goat footage. However, there are two things that I think could be improved. this format of video greatly benefits from three-point lighting (or at least two-point lighting). In my amateur opinion, I think you only have a key light, leading to the overexposure/color balance issues in the video. Two, I'm a little out-of-the-loop regarding the impetus for this video. I did see a few videos on UA-cam a while back concerning gatcha games, maybe this is concerning the same thing? A little bit of background info about what led to the creation of this video would be great. Along those same lines, I wish you would include the sources for the facts you cite as part of the script. I did notice numbers in the right hand corner, so maybe you intended to include them. My apologies if this is in the pinned comment. I can't see it so I'm not sure what is there. Sorry for the book, but I figure engagement is never a bad thing. Again, really enjoying the channel and I look forward to your next video!

      I'm probably doing more opinion based stuff now. And maybe even talk a little bit about political topics, it would be an unreasonable restraint. Let's see if i can make it unique 😀 and opinion based stuff doesn't take ages. I feel like thats what made the male gaze video stand out, it was me being authentic and not giving a lecture. This video took about 140 hours to make. I invested so much time because it is related to Mr beast promoting illegal lotteries to children, so I wanted to see how bad the thing actually is, according to some reasonable sources. But i dont really talk about him, so including him felt clickbaity.

    In Film Theory, not psychology, the Male Gaze is not just camera angles. The camera angles, slowly panning up the woman's body and cutting away to closeups of her appealing feminine features, are the cinematography. The plot devices that use the female characters as objects to be acted upon rather than characters who take action can be seen in a lot of old films. However, the best old films did not have boring objects for female characters. Scarlet O'Hara took action, Dorthy set off down the yellow brick road. The Male Gaze was just poor, misogynistic, film making. Not unlike the poor, misandrist film making we have today. Setting aside a few exceptions, like King Kong, films with boring female leads are just not very good.

    Heterosexual men aren't real people. They only exist to serve women. That's why men aren't supposed to have wants, preferences or expectations of their own. Likewise, a man should only feel desire when a woman feels it's appropriate, and then of course he should spring to attention immediately.

    @Loutron3030 12 днів тому

    I'm pretty familiar with feminist theory and the idea that feminists take Sigmund Freud's work without a pinch of salt is frankly laughable. The "male gaze" is a structural element of cinematic language that's basically impossible to ignore, all you can do is attempt to rationalise it's presence and naturalise the conditions that lead to it's construction. That's not really particularly critical or scientifically rigorous, so it's no wonder that the wider point of operant conditioning under patriarchy is lost in this flawed analysis; dismissed as some neurotic figment of the collective feminist imagination. All that this video has established is that some women also participate in patriarchy and naturalise mysogynistic ideas. That's not exactly a big surprise considering this video itself is doing exactly that with these half-baked ideas that only appeal to insecure men desperate for validation after being called out on their unacceptable behaviour. Just look at the rest of the comment section here to all of the male chauvinists and pickmes trying desperately to get their approval, this is just a pseudo-intellectual version of the kind of lowest common denominator content you see all over YT and Tik Tok. Really not very impressive at all.

    I remember an interview from a few years ago where Camille Paglia said nice things about Mulvey, but also that "Gaze Theory" is stupid and that anyone who believes in it has no idea how art works. It might have been one where she was talking with Christina Hoff Sommers. I haven't got Camille's expertise, but I always thought the idea of the "camera" that feminists were complaining about was often showing the audience how something - man, woman, coffee cup...whatever - is meant to be viewed in the story. Good cinematography is like a language, it seems to me, so the irony is that a lot of those feminist complaints, if heeded, could lead to devaluing of female characters, because the camera wouldn't be allowed to tell us about them.

    The whole male gaze thing is another proof that feminism is just a form of neuroses. And idea that objectification is degrading is a Puritan heritage that considers sex dirty, but like with everything feminism uses it and twists it in one specific angle that makes no sense; Find me a man who would mind being objectified by women, and if we should all be equal women shouldn't mind either, right? But we are not. That twisting of reality creates endless contradictions in feminism that could easily be explained if creators of it finished sixth grade biology. Men will always objectify women if they find them attractive, same as they would stare in those women if it was not socially awkward. Again, same biology for kids explains why. But normal men never act on their basic impulses towards unknown women where there is no consent, in same way they don't stare like freaks because its socially unacceptable. Feminism pushes basic instincts of humans as animals in social frame and then condemns it which is ludicrous.

It is probably, but not certainly, more present in societies will high social control like religious ones. I see it as a kind of verbally fighting adversaries or a kind of verbal violence. It is also how mobbing is performed. The Swedish sociologist Af Klintberg that looked into ”travelling stories” that are retold but when you try to find the origin it often is circular. A famous one is ”the rat in the pizza”. It is about some people eating a pizza at an Italian restaurant and one find a bone in the pizza. When the bone is shown to a biologist he tells that it is from a rat. Noone can tell where this story originated but it is really well spread.

    I mean that it is about the reality of science. If we believe in science ECT works but we don’t know why. If we believe in evil spirits infesting people, ECT can be seen as chasing them out of a person. Olanzapin might be seen as a poison to evil spirits. It is all about the narrative of psychiatric diseases. We are secular so we try to explain things that way.

      But does it work? By the end of the video, you may find that the "works" part is a bit...inadequate, and not according to me, but actual experts.

      @@PaperbagEveI had an uncle way back that had paranoia and he got ECT and was helped by it…sort of. He never married or had a relation with a woman don’t know if the ECT was to blame. But the history of psychiatrics has a record of terrible treatments so ECT might only be the latest. In the beginning of the movie ”the exorcist” the girl is taken to a psychiatric clinik, just an interesting observation. I think all this means that the scientific world doesn’t admit that there are things like evil spirits and it might be a problem. Also religion is treated by many therapists like something that should be cured.

    Great video. It must have taken quite a bit of work. Some initiatives were actually kind of surprising to hear.

      It was so much work. Especially because some of the essays were not written too well, so deciphering what the authors even meant was quite the task :). But I thought it would get more views, considering the publicity the document got. Oh well. But it was an interesting read.

      @@PaperbagEve I truly appreciate it. I would not be able to make it though that much writing, even more so if it was poorly written.
