I've been playing Ibanez guitars for over 30 years now. My experience is that Ibanez is excellent in every way as long as you are purchasing an upper-end model. Their cheapy guitars are hit-n-miss. Their mid-tier guitars are generally good, but there is an occasional misfit that gets out into the wild. What is most interesting is that I've found that, with very few exceptions, all Ibanez guitars can be set up by a luthier to become amazing and outstanding instruments. Although I suppose the same could be said for most other brands too. Actually, now that I think about it further; I've realized that my entire comment on this video is empty blather that doesn't say anything remotely meaningful or useful in any way. It is just stereotypical Ibanez fanboy nonsense and a waste of my time, your time, and time that neither of us will ever get back. Sorry. I'll just hush now and accept that I'm bored and can't seem to find anything useful to do. Have nice day.

@@tobiasheinrich104 Look across the price ranges the brand sells. Typically high-end Ibanez guitars start at about $2500 USD. They can get way more expensive from there. I consider mid-tier Ibanez guitars as anything from $1000-2500 USD. Anything below $1k is the lower range. But not the lowest range. The real stinkers are in the $100-450 USD range. The less the cost, the stronger the smell. All of these estimates are out the window when dealing with used instruments. My personal favorite Ibanez guitars in the world are models made between 1986-1992. The golden age of Ibanez innovation. These can often be found used for under $1k, and are always a bargain.

My SRC6 died. The neck suddenly started diving, and it turned out the rod wouldn’t adjust.
I’ve never seen a neck dive that much ,even with no rod.
Another guitar (cheaper, I’ll admit, but same country of origin) did the same thing.
Never buying one of their guitars again.

I'm glad you had a good experience. My experience of Ibanez in the UK has been very different. I ordered a new RG6PKAG from PMT (premium range £1.5k). The first one arrived with the tone pot smashed in through the top and the lacquer on the back of the neck peeling off. I took this back to PMT, and they arranged a replacement. The replacement came, and after a while a problem with the EMG-61 bridge pickup started. The output would intermittently drop to rough 50%. I sent it back to PMT who forwarded it on to Headstock under warranty (the UK Ibanez distributor). They had it for a number of weeks, claimed they couldn't see the problem, claimed they'd re-soldered a dry joint and sent it back to me.
A few months later and the same problem happened again. So, I returned it to PMT (again) who forwarded it to Headstock (again). They repeated claimed there was no fault, but I protested. I explained the issue about fifty different ways, and finally someone acknowledged they'd identified "an issue". BUT - the remedy was a new pickup, which they had to order form..... get this.... JAPAN! This blows my mind since I can order an EMG from Amazon in the UK and have it within 24 hours. Apparently this is how their warranties work!?!?!? Ok - so I wait, and no news. I keep calling PMT for updates, then finally I'm told they've arranged to supply the EMG and get it replaced. Another couple of weeks go by. I call again and am told the new EMG didn't fix the problem, and they don't know what to do next. I tell them to get their act together and get back to me.
THEN, I get an out of the blue call from PMT to tell me they have my guitar back. Ok, I thought, so what did you fix? They tell me it was just the EMG. Hmmmm. Anyway, they say they've tested it themselves and will immediately ship it back to me.
Next day the guitar arrives, I unpack it, and all the back plates are not on the guitar - wires hanging out - the strings are totally slack - and the three locking nut screws which were pristine jet black now look like they've been swapped from a 40 year old guitar, worn silver and the hex holes rounded out (obviously not my screws) - and there is a big screwdriver gouge in the natural wood top next to the EMG screw hole.
What an absolute piss take. This has taken over 3 months, and I get it back looking like a second hand guitar. Not even sure the problem has actually been fixed. So, Ibanez/Headstock has been in possession of my guitar nearly longer than I have and have completely trashed it under warranty.
My guitar tech tells me he's heard this story over and over. The guys working at these distribution companies are not guitar techs and have no business doing warranty work.

I bought a Q52 with this issue and it was an easy fix - loosen the neck bolts on the heel (don’t take them out), and then push the neck flush and re-tighten the bolts.

    • @michael1
      @michael1 7 місяців тому +1

Yep, that can work although assuming their tech had experience and good photos perhaps he envisaged there was too much play or lack of alignment for that to work, hence why he said they might have to replace it. I think the flaw with these guitars is, they're 'standard' level at a premium price being advertised by many Ibanez guitarists including a signature model - it's really a dirty trick - and people buying them shouldn't really expect to start aligning the neck or fixing other flaws. If Ibanez make it clearer these are "standard" tier, not premium or prestige, lower the price to reflect that, then sure, we can buy one and throw some of the money we save at a tech if there's an issue, but right now customers are paying sufficient money, imo, that Ibanez should be putting the neck on straight.

    • @leonardomarquesbellini
      @leonardomarquesbellini 4 місяці тому

That kind of thing is usually easy to fix, unless the neck was grossly miscut, which is really unlikely in the age of CNC machinery. Maybe if the bridge wasn't installed right you could have a few issues realigning it, but even then it should be pretty doable. @@michael1

I don’t know much about how Pitbull Audio handles situations like this, but I had a similar experience with warranty with Ibanez. I bought an RG5170B from Chondro Guitars, and it arrived with one of the tremolo posts over drilled and it popped out and cracked the finish enough to be hard not to notice. We called Chondro, they said they could get Ibanez to ship a new one, but they wanted us to ship it back before they do anything. On my part, I majorly fucked up and sent the guitar to Chondro with the tremolo completely loose and it banged up the finish a lot and completely ruined the knife edges on the tremolo. I talked with Chondro and they said they would talk to Ibanez but they can’t promise that they could get a replacement, or even a repair because of my shipping negligence. Chondro and I sent a bunch of emails back and forth talking about what Ibanez and them were thinking they could do, and eventually they just put us at the mercy of Ibanez. I heard absolutely nothing for around 3-4 months and randomly one day the guitar shows up on my doorstep, and it was brand new. I don’t know if Chondro managed to sweet talk then into sending a new one or if Ibanez just wanted to do that because the issue with the guitar was covered in their warranty but even though the communication with Ibanez was god awful, I would still say their customer service was good because they fixed the issue. I am a nobody to them but they still sent a brand new $2,199.99 guitar. I’m guessing now that most people unless they really fuck up will have a good experience with Ibanez’s warranty service and their customer service.

This is one of the first things that I look at when I'm buying a guitar -- the string spacing on the outer E's to the edge of the fingerboard. They should be around the same, up and down the neck, and there should be *some* space there (on both edges, the bass and the treble side) to prevent the string from slipping off. If one side has more space than the other, it could be the neck is out of alignment, the nut could be cut wrong, the bridge saddles are misaligned, etc...something is definitely wrong though.

I bought twice that exact guitar, the first time in 2022; I got one produced in 2021, which had a severe neck intonation issue, and I returned it; then, in May this year, I decided to repurchase it because I really like it and I have a good experience with the QX52, this time I bought one produced in 2023 on Reverb from a dealer in Japan with a free custom setup and very good price and wow a totally different experience, a perfect guitar in all aspects and one of my favorites.
In my opinion, it is just a complex guitar to adjust well, maybe the parallel wizard suffers a bit more than other types of necks in the wizard family, I don’t know, but when it is in spec, it is an amazing guitar, with a low action setting, it stays in tune for weeks.

Well. First of all,.....it's typically caused by incorrect neck pocket rout. Or,.....the trem cavity is misaligned. Anytime you purchase a guitar,......pay attention to the poles on the pickups and how misaligned the strings are to them. Then site down the neck from the bridge,.....and then the headstock back. If you are even semi conscious,.....you'll see a problem if there is one. But unfortunately,.......you can't really do that when buying online. We used to play guitars to buy them. Now we buy them to play them.

I received the 6-string version with the slanted frets with exactly the same issue. The high E was way too close to the edge and slipped off the neck regularly. The nice people I bought the guitar from did a full setup and PLEK a polish and rounded the fret ends.
This was great but made the slip off the neck E string considerably worse.
The neck had no play in it at all and the only option was to move the bridge over as far as I could squeeze it.
The holes that mount the bridge looked like they were drilled by a blind man with a shot nervous system.
No CNC used on them, they were not only all over the place but also drilled on various angles.
Eventually, I moved the bridge 1.5 mm which was all I could move it without having to start carving out the bridge mount recess.
It helped but did not completely fix the issue.
The guitar is good and fun to play but Ibanez needs to make a MIJ deluxe version with a tremolo.
Quality control is so-so with these Indonesian models.

Modern guitars have narrower spacing compared to vintage, but in regards to 6 vs 7/8/9, there shouldn't really be any difference. Ibanez uses those same bridge saddles on 6 string headless models, so I would suspect the spacing at the bridge is exactly the same, and the spacing at the nut is also exactly the same. The neck is proportionately wider to accomodate the additional string, but the distance from the edge should be the same and it should be equal on both sides, everything should be centered.

Just an FYI, 99% of the time manufacturers recommend you go through your dealer, not just for guitars. The reason is your convenience, often you end up having to pay shipping and sometimes other hidden costs if you go through the manufacturer directly. When you go through the dealer it's usually quicker, easier and less stressful for the end user. The manufacturer then will sort things out with the dealer after the fact.
As for the way they handled your case, knowing you made a video, that is pretty normal. Any opportunity to get some free good PR is a no brainer. The key here is, what is the experience like for normal customers. If that is also good then it's all good. If not, it needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

Teacher called Ibanez and they blamed it on whammying too hard and refused to do anything, guitar was brand new though and still had stock strings on it.
Second bad experience was with an Ibanez RG I got as a graduation present. The edge pro on that would not stay in tune whenever the edge was used. I'm guessing the knife blades had a dull spot on it or something that caused that issue. I ended up returning it to Guitar Center and got a japanese Jackson Dinky instead, the Jackson worked fine and I still have it.

I've had this issue on 2 guitars. Luckily they were hard tail strats and I found a pretty good solution.
Buy offset left handed or right handed saddles. They will FORCE your strings to be slightly higher or slightly lower depending on what you need. Solved my issues completely!

They always have free shipping and you would pay no tax with them either.

I've had a bad experience with ibanez. I bought a prestige. The fret wire is faulty. I play it, then the next day they are green. I have multiple nickel fret guitars that have never oxidized like that. They polished the frets for me when I sent it in. Not fixed, just polished. Had to send it in again. Same story. Then told me it was my problem when I tried to get it actually fixed. When I got it back the second time they had stained the wood on the 7th fret was stained noticeably.

I had the same problem with a shecter "sun valley". I am left handed and thought if I return it and they try to sell it to someone else and this problem with someone with out knowledge would cause some one to say" I must not be a guitarist". So I fixed it. Then right after the warranty expired the Floyd Special would not stay in tune. I bought original posts, nothing I did helped and it became wall art . A few months later I saw a post saying to lean the floyd slightly off center and that fixed the problem . I did not want to spend money for a Floyd original on a guitar that already has about 800 in it . EMG hot rod pick up suck, they have no gain of a 81 and no articulation of a passive. once I got it back together I noticed the neck actually had at least a 1mm bow which also caused the e string to fall of the neck.. As of now, I have put new frets with very little fret end angle to give it as much fret as possible and with an invader bridge and a pegasus in the neck , it is quickly becoming my favorite guitar

I'm borrowing my friend's Iron Label 7string, it has the same issue with the high string being way too close to the edge of the fretboard. Not just that, but the fretwork isn't great so it has a tendency to get pushed off and caught under one of the fret ends lol, it's rough. There's always the chance of getting a dud when you're not springing for an MIJ

  • @TimberArtsdotch

@rorycosgrove I had the same Ibanez model with the same issue and I've got a ton of other issues, like the tuners were not aligned properly, visual defects and all sort of other problems. The dealer through reverb was not helpful and not open for any solution, so I've contacted Ibanez directly and they agreed that this was not up to their quality and sent me a brand new one from Japan.
This new guitar was better, but still I could see that the guitar has been poorly sanded and still was not up to the quality I am looking for - other brands like Solar or PRS SE are also produced in Indonesia and their building quality is much better.
I've also switched to high-end barenuckle pickups because I was not happy with the tone and still I don't like the tone on the lower strings. Pretty sure it's because of the low scale length, so I will try to sell it and this was probably my first and last ever Ibanez guitar ever.
So think twice before you buy a guitar from this series, as it seems there craftsmanship and especially quality control is very poor.

My experience with Ibanez from a UK perspective is that their warranty is worth nothing. The distributor in the UK doesn't carry spares. Doesn't do repairs. In fact, when I had an issue with my RG6PCMLTD they told me to take it to Max Cotton in Manchester as he carries parts and does repairs - at my own expense. The only option would be to return it to the store that sold it - which is shit.

That's why you buy in a store... the first time you get a guitar you always have to reset and readjust a few things. And if it's a good store and you come back after a few weeks, most of them make you a quick setup for free. your neck can be moved easily and this would have been a 2 Minute job. It's honestly the fault of the online store selling the guitars. they NEVER unpack and check them contrary to a local store who always checks them and in case, sends bad guitars back.
Guitars for a 1000 bucks now are the guitars we had just a few years back for 500-700 bucks. people who play guitar for quite some years don't want to accept the fact that prices went up.
Just as an example, Fender guitars made in the USA now cost 500-700€ more then before corona. So the guitar you got for 1200€ is now 1900€.
I don't know why people buy instruments online, you pay the same price as at a local store BUT you miss out the checkup of the instrument and the setup in your area where humidity and temperature make quite a big difference. that's worth at least 100 bucks in labor. Not talking about shipping costs if anything goes wrong.

I'm like you except I'm 58. I have a bunch of guitars I haven't even looked at in years. I've built quite a few guitars. This guitar is a bolt-on. It was probably slammed in shipping and the neck shifted. I have had this happen a couple of times. You slightly loosen the neck screws and you fix the neck angle and you tighten the screws. If the neck is setup correctly and tight this will fix the problem. The service team was probably puzzled as to why you didn't just fix it yourself. I've reset a bolt-on neck probably 100 times in my life there is literally nothing to it it's monkey work. No offense but just fix the guitar yourself and play it.

Because it can become a bad story going around and also this is where warranties are for. My experience with Ibanez and even the signature artist where pretty good and of course I had to put some work into it myself too. They eventually replaced the whole bass and it still plays great! You built yourself a Warmoth guitar, so you habe the knowledge of screwing a neck to a body. This would have been a 5 minute fix for yourself. I got Fenders (mutliple, not only once) with a missaligned neck, loose the strings, loose the neck screws, align the neck, which is usually not more than a milimeter to the right direction, retighten, restring, and that would be it.

I am a bit aware of those discount dealers. Those guitars that I have paid less for had faults, ok. Some nice price dealers got them lots of B-stock that is an returned A, that is an varning sign.
Warranty claims will always go thru the dealer, some dealers will not follow the rules set by the Brand.
Here is an exampel from the car business. Me owning a brand new highspec Toyota I was treated like crap by the dealer, that is not an policy of Toyota. That dealer and his sloppy Joe enployies where new to Toyota and would not adapt, they where the Masters, in time you will get or not on their terms, an manifstation of power, you begg. It was not for long before that dealer lost his contract.
Japanese makers they are realy in to keeping up an high standard. As they are selling in staggering numbers some warranty claims here and there, fix it make that customer as pleased and that he will stay.
The problem lays within dealers, that local culture, in some countryies even that money will not count it might as well turn things to be worse.
