    As always your attention to detail is reminiscent of the old days when people cared about the quality of their goods or services. I hope a lot of young people watch your videos to learn, not only, how it's done but more importantly how it's supposed to be done with absolutely no cutting corners...Your Dad must be proud of how you carry on the tradition..

    As someone with allergies , I am surprised that someone with such severe allergies would have bought that to start with. But as always the furniture master has come to the rescue. Great job cleaning and saving that piece.

      Could be a family piece handed down.

    • @donnat639
      @donnat639 2 роки тому +2

      This can happen inside any damp home or storage unit, etc. Mold starts slowly & grows depending on environment. Best to catch it fast & treat immediately. My grandmother’s old house was damp. After installing HVAC, mold never had a chance. Guessing this lady got this from family then it was placed near a roof leak, pipe burst or some unspoken wet occurrence, otherwise, other pieces would be affected & maybe they are. Someone’s home, storage or Canada had humidity problem the year this mold started.

      It maybe that the customer did not buy this piece, but that it was handed down as an heirloom, as indicated by the date on the newspaper found behind the mirror.

    Watching you use that full size iron on the drawer slides, made me think that you could use one of my favorite tools: a mini iron that seamstresses use in hard to reach spaces that need ironing. Mine even has different iron tips and low to high temp setting. You would find it handy.

    Well done on this work. This will be mould free for ever now. Sealing all the wood after cleaning with bleach and spirits... I found an old paper in the bottom of a chest of drawers at my Grandfather's about 45 years ago. The front page was headlined "Hitler Dead" it had been there since 1945.
    He kept that in his memory chest until he died and it went to my uncle who still has it now.

    On the one hand your channel inspires me to revitalise some of the furniture around my place that needs attention. On the other hand, your expertise is so vast and obvious, not to mention your care and attention, that I think: there comes a point in a DIY-er's life when you concede that it would be a pleasure for all parties involved to hand this over to a professional. Those, like you, Trena, who have put in this many hours into - and absorbed this much wisdom and practise around - a craft, they make it look so easy. You're making and restoring beauty in a patient, deliberate, personal way, and thus weaving yourselves into the story of this long-lasting creation. I imagine it's like becoming good friends with a time traveller for a while, then parting ways.

    I just love watching you work, Trena. The time you take and detail with every piece is amazing. Plus your calm nature makes you almost therapeutic to watch. The care you took with each part of this piece, in relation to your client’s allergy, was really special. Even the off chance there were spores on that newspaper (I didn’t even think about it until you mentioned it bc I was so amazed it was still back there and in one piece), so you removed it and kept it for her in sealed packaging. Also, I could so tell you were really struggling about the drawer bottoms and was so glad you were able to keep them. Just a great video and learned so much from you, again.💜

    I like my drawer insides shellacked and nice and smooth, nothing worse than snagging fabric on a rough drawer. Well lots of things are worse but not in a drawer context except if they have so much side to side slack on the runners that they jam by going diagonally askew, especially bad on very wide drawers where you have to use two pulls and still need to be careful to pull out straight. I have had to build up the sides of runners or replace them entirely to remove the excessive clearance by adding some nice hardwood to them so the drawers pull out straight and true. I did not think of using the veneer edge tape. That is a brilliant idea as I have rolls of that lying around pleading for a innovative use.

    Fantastic job as always. Can I suggest an ozone generator to kill of mold? It works on car interior. A bit controversial and of course the challenge is to find a small space/room sealed of from the workshop to place the ozone generator and the molded peace for about 12 hours or so
