    awesome tools...a little while ago I went looking for exactly this functionality and never came across these gems...thank you...this might reinvigorate the original project.

      Glad to hear it. As I mentioned in the video, I get the feeling there programs aren't well known. Hope they serve you well!

    I watched for LosslessCut information that I just put on a Win10 system. Maybe I've been isolated too long, but I was not following anything on the video for that software. Next up your recent update video on LosslessCut. This could easily be all me. Appreciate experts taking the time to share.

    I don't understand why video editing programs in general don't simply add a Lossless export and keep adding it as a separate feature (if at all) that usually isn't practical to use.

    How can someone dislike this video, were they looking to make the perfect burger?! After messing with scene detection from adobe and davinci wich takes a lot of time and then im not even mentioning the time it took to export the clips these programs or a joy to use. Cut up my clips and save them without re-encoding in the shortest time possible. Only thing im missing is an automatic scene detection in these programs. But still im happy. Good explanation Eric 👍

    Sweet, now I have better tools to simply cut family videos. Thanks.

    Can Avidemux make a lossless cut to an .mp4 like you did here with an .mkv? Every time I save, I think it re-encodes: the save takes a while.

    • @EricAdamsYT
      @EricAdamsYT  2 роки тому +1

      I just tested this out and it didn't need to re-encode. I took a 400 MB mp4 file, edited it in Avidemux, and then exported it and it was almost instantaneous. Be sure to switch the muxer to MP4 (near the bottom left).

    Thanks, Eric. I have been using Vidcutter, which can be hit and miss. I'll have to try these.

      I really like the UI of VidCutter but it often failed to export. I read a few issue reports on GitHub and I think they are close to fixing it (hopefully) in which case I would likely prefer it. They all have the strengths so it's good to know they all exist.

    It's helping me leave the security of Apple iMovie! The fact that these do lossless edits of source clips means I can go through my many family videos and edit out the awkward video and audio, get my source clips organised just so. DONE! Then I can reimport them into KDEN Live for say my 2004 family movie - and reimport again for say my son's 21st and have bits of all his different birthday footage all reimported into another project and NEVER have to go through and edit out all the awkward bits again. It means once the source footage is tidied up - it's good to go for all manner of future projects and I don't need iMovie any more and can play with KDEN one project, Olive another, or Da Vinci if I ever get a PC upgrade. Cheers!

      It sounds like you have a good workflow using open source tools. There are many great projects out there. Hopefully more people discover them as you have.

    Great video. Tell me, is it possible to select and cut the silent intervals of a video with few commands instead of having to cut each one mannually? This takes forever in long videos. Thanks a lot!!

      I don't believe there's any way to do this with LosslessCut but I have used a different tool for this in the past called jumpcutter. I made a video about it here - ua-cam.com/video/E8JxNRPFV70/v-deo.html

    Eric, in cutting and compiling several video clips into one video should I run each clip through Handbrake first or run the final video through it? File size is an issue for me.

    • @EricAdamsYT
      @EricAdamsYT  4 роки тому +2

      The newer versions of LosslessCut have a simple way to change the container format but I don't think that will do much, if anything, for the file size. If you are trying to resize the video file itself then yes, I would say Handbrake or ffmpeg would be necessary to do that. Handbrake has support for GPU hardware acceleration which might make the process much quicker than CPU alone. Let me know how it goes.

    Thanks for the video, Eric. Do you have a preference for online or offline video editors and what you would recommend for each in the freeware category?

    • @EricAdamsYT
      @EricAdamsYT  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Peter. I haven't used any online editors so I can't recommend any. What I've found is that video editors are a very personal thing in many ways. It all depends on what your skill level and what you are trying to do. There are so many choices, most of which fill a specific need. Openshot is a very simple and straightforward editor, great for basic projects. Then you have Shotcut and Flowblade which are more capable in certain ways. I'd throw Olive in there as well, although it's a bit lacking in features but has been very stable for me. At the top of the pile I'd say Kdenlive is the most capable open source editor. I've had my frustrations with it but you can do some really amazing things with the tools it provides. On the commercial side, you have Lightworks and DaVinci Resolve. Lightworks is...different. Powerful but a little odd compared to a traditional non-linear editor. I just recently started testing DaVinci Resolve and it is very powerful. It has pretty much everything you could need for video production. The free version has most of the features. The best part of all of these is you can try them all and decide for yourself. Hope this helps!

    • @pjpw2320
      @pjpw2320 4 роки тому +1

      @@EricAdamsYT It does, Eric. Thanks very much.
      Also, may I ask your opinion of Handbrake for the purpose of reducing the file size of final cuts.

    • @EricAdamsYT
      @EricAdamsYT  4 роки тому +1

      I would say it's probably better to optimize the output during the render if possible but Handbrake usually does a great job of optimizing video. It has hardware accelertion as well so, depending on your setup, that could also be an advantage, especially over the open source editors that normally aren't able to utilize the GPU.

    Sorry but you’ve wasted your time, your video isn’t helpful 😢
    You don’t explain how to deal with this error: “the end point of the cut is not on a keyframe. Video saved in copy mode will be corrupted at this point.”
